Last week saw the announcements for Black Friday releases which follows the same rules as record shop day…Black Friday is the 25th of November…there are about 80 or so special titles released for the day…its first come first served and we cannot hold stuff for people and we cant go online until 6 pm on the day in question…its aim is to drive footfall into the record shops…the full list for UK and Irish record shops is here
RSD Black Friday | Record Store Day
So if you are interested in something, drop us your wishlist on email and we will do our best to try and cover demand…wishlists need to be back by the 10th of October…also this year we will set up links on the website so folks have more info but the qtys will be at zero so you wont be able to buy anything but you can look…Shane and Adam should have some up on the site today so they will link them and we will add more over the coming weeks.
Here is the link for those on our website folks: BLACK FRIDAY RSD 2022 Products
So main week for this week is 7th October and we will start with Warner…sorry first…just got an email…new SMASHING PUMPKINS album for next year…its a 3cd ( 22 quid) or 4lp ( 110 quid) rock opera…i am not sure how many of the vinyl sets i shall end up getting…what i do know is that there are only 75 of each vinyl set coming into the country…so if this interests you,,drop us a mail and we will do our very best…Shane will have more info or there will be more info on the linky link…expensive again i’m afraid…
Anyways back to Warner for the 7th October and Cork’s own TALOS releases his third studio album now “ dear chaos” …guests include LISA HANNIGAN and SOHN…available via BMG on CD and coke bottle clear vinyl…one of the biggest talents from our home county no doubt, here is “ all ours” from the new album
(100) Talos – All Ours (Official Music Video) – YouTube
The box set ( wonderful) for PINK FLOYD “ animals” hits the shelves on the 7th Oct also…it has a gatefold LP, CD, DVD and bluray …and the price is right in my opinion,,,the lp only release did really well last week when it came out and again the price was right, 25/26 quid, nice gatefold sleeve, felt like a sturdy product…id imagine Floyds royalty rates would be up there with anyones so begs the question…why are we paying 30 to 40 quid for a bog standard reissue when this record can be on the shelf for 30/40 % less …the release gave the shop a buzz last week and the price had a lot to do with it….boxset out on the 7th anyway.
There is a brand new album by LAMB OF GOD via Nuclear Blast “ omens” on cd, std lp or indies white/blue marbled vinyl, there is the CD/DVD version of JETHRO TULLs “ thick as a brick” via PLG UK , SLADEs “ crackers” get a reissue on BMG on cd or indies splattered vinyl, SWEET release a “ greatest hits” 1969 to 1978 as a 2lp or as a 3cd and BMG continue with THE KINKS reissue series on vinyl…four more up next are “ face to face” , “ kinda kinks”, ‘something else by the kinks‘ and “ the kink kontroversy” .

National album day is also happening on Saturday the 15th of October but these albums can be preordered and can be kept aside. National album day is now in its 5th year and this year its theme is debut albums…we don’t have the list yet but titles will start appearing soon…to coincide with it ( well not really!!) we have a treat for live music fans …we have a bumper day in the shop on Saturday the 15th of October ( national album day) when we are thrilled to host not only one live band but 2 …and 2 of Cork and Irelands finest in our opinions…..so launching their debut album “ sucker for stars” we will have THE BURMA at 12 noon on the 15th…these lads are improving all the time and i for one really love their sound…i think this is 4th or 5th or maybe even 6th time the lads have played in the shop…few lineup changes a bit through the years but Tony, Peter and Cian have been mainstays and getting tighter and tighter and better and better with each release. Their debut album will be available on the day on vinyl and CD and the lads will perform songs from the album and hopefully sign a f**king ton of albums after the performance…here is a little bit about the lads and the album…and here is “ dont believe your dreams” from the album
(100) The Burma – Don’t Believe Your Dreams (Official Music Video) – YouTube
“Bold indie rock trio The Burma will be sharing their long-awaited album, Sucker For Stars, on the 14th of
October via The Burma Music. With the release of their LP, listeners are invited to discover the
yet-to-be-heard title track, which will be featured alongside the band’s chart-topping single ‘Don’t Believe
Your Dreams’, a record that rose to No.1 in the Irish iTunes single charts and landed at No.6 in The
Homegrown Top 20 in the Official Charts. Also taken from their album is the single ‘Sleepers’, which
climbed its way to No.4 on Irish iTunes and No.12 on The Homegrown Top 20. It is unsurprising that
noteworthy tastemaker publications have praised the band, namely The Spill Magazine, Variance
Magazine, RTÉ XM, CLASH Magazine, Rolling Stone India, Hot Press and Medium.com/ Pop Off, to
mention a few, and received extensive national airplay, collecting over 140k streams across platforms.
Sucker For Stars is a rocker’s fantasy. Like a new band poster, the album offers fans a vivid image of what
The Burma stands for as a band, printed in high gloss. A few of the featured tracks thrash lawlessly, inciting
miniature musical riots while other ballad-type records live together in gently strummed harmony. With only
guitars, drums, and vocals, The Burma has written an album that is rich and dynamic.
Proudly local, the band takes its name from The Burma Steps in Cobh, Co. Cork, Ireland. Its members are
Tony O’Donovan (on vocals) and Peter Piggott (on guitar) who are both from Cobh as well as Cian
Doherty (on drums) who is from Doolin Co. Clare. Drawing inspiration from The Strokes, Tame Impala
and Daft Punk, the band has created a signature sound comparable to Glass Animals, MGMT and Foster
the People.
The Burma muses on the making of their LP: “Sucker For Stars is a body of work which we officially started
two and a half years ago – although it‘s been much longer in the making. The album represents two different
sounds for us – the first, made up of 6 older songs which we’ve held onto over the years- and then 5 brand
new songs showing where our writing style is at in its current form. It’s a milestone moment for us to have
our debut album out in the world, it’s been a long time coming.”
Try get in and support the lads if ye can!!
Followed up then on Saturday the 15th of October by THE SHAKER HYMN the bloody wonderful Shaker hymn …the lads were to play a few months back the day after their third studio album came out but Covid struck and cancelled all their planned shows that week…a balls for them…true to their word though they said they would be back and they are…Saturday the 15th at 1pm…playing songs from the wonderful new album” the last concorde”..here is the third single from the album “ wild silk”
(100) The Shaker Hymn – Wild Silk (Official Video) – YouTube
The siopa would really appreciate if the community came out in support of these two local original bands …so sat the 15th 12 noon THE BURMA, 1PM THE SHAKER HYMN…mark in the book, speak to the boss, call off the match, leave the bowie reissue for another day..do what needs to be done folks..sat 15th Oct!
Quick one regards National album Day…Warner were on and need figures back by next Monday so if anyone wants any of these please email us back by Sunday…thanks!!

Sony for the 7th October has the new BEYONCÉ vinyl “ renaissance” as a 2lp deluxe black vinyl…we wont talk about the price Bruno. Speaking of Sony i got a call from a regular lad last wednesday to tell me the sad news that his friend Maurice Byrne and my rep for years from Sony had passed away…id say Maurice was only about 70, and suffered a lot with ill health in recent years..id say he left Sony about 10 or 12 years ago now and the last time i spoke to him was after the fire when Dave put us in touch. I was only a kid when i opened the shop but Maurice was one of those who looked after me….got me credit with Sony which was hugely important for a green kid opening a shop..he always visited the siopa when he was down and he never steered me wrong when doing my orders ..he nearly done them for me to be honest with his Sony stuff and others at times and he nearly always hit the nail on the head..( i still make a balls of it at times!)…would be safe to say that he didn’t suffer fools gladly ( well bar this green one) but he always had my back…rest in peace Maur.

Universal for the 7th of Oct have the new PAUL HEATON/JACQUI ABBOTT album “ N.K Pop” on Emi..they’re 5th together now…super they are…available on cd and lp…Heaton is the berries i think, there is a super documentary out there on him…from hull to something is the title, well worth a watch…there is a piece in it how Jacqui Abbott joined the beautiful south…she was back at a house party when she was 17 and Heaton was there, her friends were saying “ go on you should sing for him” and she did…she said, and she was being kind id say that he had a few drinks on board …that was that anyway until a year and a half later when Heaton said to his mate do you remember that night back in so and sos when this girl sang…the pal was going “ huh” …heaton “ id like you to find her”, pal was going “ huh” …he tracked her down anyway while she was stocking shelves in Sainsburys and said do you remember the night you sang for Paul Heaton …she was like “huh but yeah”…pal “ he would like if you would do an audition” and that was that as they would say! Here is “ too much for one ( not enough for two) “…yet another top tune from a pair of maestros.

Sometimes ye might feel that i put the aul invisibility cloak on.. but …yes but…in my defense just telling ye the way it is…Universal , Sony , Integral and Cargo all come out of the one distribution centre warehouse in Aylesbury in the UK ( Cinram) …now Cinram only in the last few weeks were bought out by Utopia distribution services limited , a group company of Utopia Music…it reads as a really positive thing, sher i dont know, way above my pay grade…anyway says he, there has been teething problems…orders placed 9 days ago , not landed, cant get invoices for stuff that has landed…yada yada yada…cloak going on.
Integral so for the 7th of Oct has new albums from GILLA BAND, BONNY LIGHT HORSEMAN and ALVVAYS as well as THE COMMUNARDS reissue of “ red”.
Going to hand ye to Shane now as he takes ye on another magical mystery tour…roll up roll up.
Sound, Ray!
How’s it going everyone? Hope ye’re well.
Well said on the pricing Ray. I agree. The last three Pink Floyd reissues (Piper, Saucerful and Animals) have all been very reasonable. And they’ve been really well remastered and sound great.
Don’t know why Beyonce has to be three times the price.
Anyway, a few to mention as always for down the road a bit.
First up as Ray mentioned, the SMASHING PUMPKINS have a brand new one coming out called ‘ATUM’. Over 30 songs on it.
Here’s a bit about it:
- The album is a rock opera presented in three acts by inimitable American rock band The Smashing Pumpkins.
Not out for a while yet, April next year, but one to wait for. To be honest, Billy Corgan’s voice grates on me a bit at times but they are legends of the 90s no doubt and when they hit the spot, it’s great.
SPOON’s excellent album from earlier this year ‘Lucifer on the Sofa’ is getting a reworking and will be called ‘Lucifer on the Moon‘. Out on the 4th of November.
ECHO & The Bunnymen are reissuing ‘Evergreen’. We will have it on CD and vinyl.
DINOSAUR JR. are also bringing out a reissue in ‘Beyond’ for its 15th anniversary. There will be a really limited green and purple pressing of it with a bonus 7 inch. Out at the end of October. Great band.
Also coming soon: FRANK SINATRA – ‘Collected’ on gold coloured vinyl (a nice collection of his songs), a live NIGHTMARES ON WAX release and a live one too (from Chicago) by MY MORNING JACKET on 3 lp orange vinyl.
That’s about it I think for this week from me. Looking forward to hearing the new HAMSANDWICH and BURMA too, Ray.
Back to you so.
Cheers!
Thanks Shane.
Right last one for this week so is Integral for the 14th Oct…there is a new BILL CALLAHAN album “ yti…” its reality written backwards…again above my skill set…cd is 14th oct, lp is not till feb next year though…out via Drag city.
CAN live in cuxhaven 1976 …third in the live series now, out on Mute on CD and indies blue vinyl…a couple of debut album reissues for National Album Day ( 15th oct) by SMITH & BURROWS” funny looking angels” as a picture disc ( Tom Smith of Editors and Andy Burrowes of Razorlight amongst others) and THE NATIONAL self titled debut also as a white vinyl version…i suppose the National give hope to bands with an age profile in their mid to late 20s to keep chasing the dream…this album was made and released and toured whilst all the band held down full time jobs ( you know what i mean)…keep believing and creating i suppose, you just never know.
Sin sin for this week so folks
Thanks for listening as always
Ray, Shane and young Adam.
