Gonna head over to Shane now with a few interesting further down the road releases …TOOL fans at the ready…on this release actually i must say a few words…its wicked expensive to start with…but even aside from that, qty pressed is tiny and even at the price we may have done double the number we were allocated ( 5 copies and 3 spoken for already) , tis frustrating to be honest, sometimes allocations are 1 or 2 units…we are even been allocated on catalog stock now from some record companies…it is what it is, a blessing and a curse.

Sorry over to you Shane kid..

Sound Ray, yeah I agree, this is mad expensive but unfortunately Tool fans like myself have to go for it.
I read during the week that there were signed versions of this released through their website and fans were giving out as it was over 800 dollars, so they released these more affordable (!) non-signed ones.
In fairness, they do always do very cool artwork and packaging but still.
I’m going to see them in Dublin in May, the first time they’ve been in Ireland since 2006!
We have very limited quantities as Ray said of this vinyl box set of their last album ‘Fear Inoculum‘ which is class.
Fastest finger first on this so if interested don’t wait:

Second up is another favourite of mine (and Bobby’s) King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have yet another new album coming on the 15th of April. It’s called ‘Made in Timeland’. Seriously impressive band, they often release 2 or 3 albums a year. A few years back they did a thrash metal one, then built their own guitars with unique tunings for another 3 albums and recently they did an electronicy one!
Here’s the ‘Dripping Tap’

A bit further down the line, is a new Live album on coloured vinyl by Irish legends MOVING HEARTS. It was recorded in Vicar St. in 2007. It’s limited to 750 copies worldwide and will be out at the end of May.

Also coming soon are new albums by KURT VILE and KEVIN MORBY.

Oh, forgot to link the Tin Machine 2 release last week, so there you go.

Think that’s about it from me. Back to you Ray!

Thanks Shane!

Also included is the complete concert from the final show at the Rainbow Theatre in London, England where FZ was infamously pushed off the stage, resulting in injuries, the cancellation of the rest of the tour and ultimately the band. The box also features a bonus hybrid concert from Harrisburg and Scranton, PA 1971; original singles, album ads, a 68-page booklet showcasing an interview with Ian Underwood by Ahmet Zappa and liner notes from Eddie Kramer, Jim Pons (FZ’s then bass player) and Vaultmeister Joe Travers. As part of the fabled 1500 Series begun in 1956, the label issued the 12” compilation Milt Jackson and The Thelonious Monk Quintet which expanded Jackson’s 10” LP Wizard of the Vibes with tracks from 1948 and 1951 dates led by Monk. The album cover was the first designed by Reid Miles.

This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

Bluenote also reissue The 4th volume of The Amazing Bud Powell series recorded in 1958 found the brilliant bebop piano master in particularly fine form on an ebullient set of his original tunes including “Buster Rides Again,” “Monopoly,” and “John’s Abbey.” Powell’s inventive solo flights shine in a trio setting with Sam Jones on bass and ‘Philly’ Joe Jones on drums.

RSD Lists With Pricing, RIP Mark Lanegan, New Ghost, Bryan Adams, Midlake And More

Hi Everyone,

Hope all is well out there.

Its RSD wishlist week….sorry i was napping last week and we put out the american RSD list…here is the correct one for here/Europe and the UK with lots of info…

Tonight , we will ( well truth be told,  Shane will,) send out some record company lists for the day RECORD STORE DAY Saturday April 23rd with prices to give you a better idea….tonight we will send Integral/Pias, Sony, Orchard, Proper, Shellshock, SRD and Cargo…we haven’t received pricing from Warner, Uni , LITTLE AMBER FISH, RoM yet as well as a few smaller companies as well…Warner is due so should make this newsletter.

Will hopefully send Universal and anyone else next week.

We are asking for your help here as regards the wishlist…most of ye know the drill but if this is new to anyone…this spiel  is for ye… a wishlisted record  is a record you would hope to get on the day…you are greatly helping us by sending back any wishlist you may have as it allows us to fight harder for stock we need and also if its a rather obscure record it makes sure it is ordered in …unfortunately we cant guarantee you will get your record  but most people who wishlist us end up been happy ….so critically a wishlist is not a guarantee but we will do our best to secure enough stock to cover the wishlists…thats the hope anyway!

I need wishlists back by close of play weds the 9th of March…that is only 2 weeks away….some record companies need the orders back to them on the 10th of March …so the full list is above and here Shane will do some magic to get out  some record companies RSD lists with pricing here:

WARNER RSD 2022 List with Pricing

CARGO RSD 2022 List with Pricing

SRD RSD 2022 List with Pricing

PROPER RSD 2022 List with Pricing

The Orchard RSD 2022 (Drop 1) List with Pricing

PIAS/Integral RSD 2022 List with Pricing

SONY RSD 2022 List with Pricing

A lot always gets said about Record Store Day, some positives, some negatives…its a game of opinions folks…there was an article by a record shop owner in England doing the rounds where he felt a year off from it would maybe allow the plants catch up and allow smaller labels and artists to get their records pressed, he also argues about the curation of the stock for the day …a bit more merit to his second point for me…re the first point though, big or small to my knowledge,( i have asked some local artists who do vinyl runs), you have to book your slot at the plant, it is 6 to 9 months lead time to get a record pressed at the used be 12 weeks….canceling RSD for the year won’t solve that problem…alleviate it slightly, fair enough,  but that’s all ….there are probably 100 records a week sold to me if not more, we cherry pick what we stock or think we can sell…so its 4 weeks worth of  records sold to us in one week…..its not clogging up the plants completely….increase capacity is the only thing that will properly alleviate the queues  but that’s a risky venture and an expensive one also…but cancel RSD over the supply chain and queues at plants , i would think that’s very extreme…the day was set up to help record shops and we sell more records on that day than any other day in the year…probably times 2 or 3…i would regard it so highly and so important in our year…the man who wrote the article says the job of the record shop in its simplest terms is to sell records…so let us sell them i say…game of opinions folks.

Also there is a second smaller release day for RSD on the 18th June which are for the releases that won’t make the starting post for the main event on Saturday the 23rd April…wishlists appreciated folks!!

Terrible sad news overnight with the passing of MARK LANEGAN at just 57 years of age…an amazing life he led, packed more into it than most would in 10 lifetimes, what a legacy he left, what a voice,  alas still too young to go…very sad…here is “ resurrection song” from him….rest in peace Mark

Hey all! Hope ye’re all keeping well. Sad news about Mark Lanegan, a huge loss. I saw him supporting Guns n Roses in Slane a few years back, he was quality.

A few bits of interest again this week:

First up, one biggie, well two, the latest Daft Punk reissues! ‘Homework‘ and ‘Alive 1997‘. They’ve been out of print for a while and sought after, so great to have them reissued now. They’re coming through Warner on April 15th.

Secondly, one of my favourites, IRON MAIDEN, will be releasing a commemorative cassette of their classic album ‘Number of the Beast‘. Yes, a cassette. They haven’t taken off at all like vinyl but definitely collectors will have an interest! Out March 18th.

Next, Seattle lads PEARL JAM will be releasing the two volumes of their greatest hits on vinyl!

On the Irish front, 2 very interesting releases. Firstly, alt/noise rock band, JUST MUSTARD will be releasing their second album at the end of May, here’s the new single, ‘Still’ from the album
Sounds class!

Also, Limerick-born, London-based, SINÉAD O BRIEN will be releasing a new album on June 10th. Here’s a song from it
I like the strong accent! She writes poetry as well and has been published in London.

Oh, before I go, here’s last week’s Youtube video from Ray and Adam:

New Band Of Horses, Some Cracking Irish Releases, RSD First Look And Out Galavanting After Today’s Ad

Hi Everyone

Hope all is well….i’m as excited as a little baby puppy…i am…A LAZARUS SOUL are playing Coughlans Live tonight with support from ARRIVALISTS  and i am as excited as a little puppy…this is the one, ohh this is the one…pure magic are the only words for it…what should be a great night of class music….when all the gigs were been canceled march/april/may 2020 and the shite was hitting the fan i think i had about 7 tickets bought for various gigs, but this was the one i was most looking forward to and most disappointed when it was canceled …here we are now though!! Pure magic…..great band  by the way in case they are new to you

Here is “ funeral sessions” from A LAZARUS SOUL

Right enough about me…here are the releases in the siopa for this Friday the 18th of Feb…

And now we have the releases for the 25th of feb…the new JOHNNY MARR album, SOFT CELL TANKARD boxset, AVRIL LAVIGNE  and a new RICHARD CLAYDERMAN comp.

The main point of attack of this weeks ad is friday March 4th …ah Terry harsh kid…Terry is a pushing on geezer from the east end of London town who one day 5 or 6  years ago said to me…” you know it was in your ad” and i was looking at him as if he had 3 heads and was from London town…he repeated it a bit more floury in a thick London accent “ it was in your fuckin AD” …Ad…is he talking about my weekly masterpiece…fucking Ad he is calling it…i never thought of it like that and off course he was right, would;nt tell him that though….should;nt have said he was pushing on either i suppose! Rumour has it he pushed Adam Ant off the stage they shared when playing a gig together back in the day in London town…be careful out there Bob! …anyway the 4th of March…sorry first….RSD will jump upon us very soon and i know theres a few leaks and slippages out there already…we will as ever, like every other year, send out the full lists when we are allowed to and we shall ask for wishlists as usual and will keep the lines of communication as open as we can…so more on that over the weeks…critical point …a wishlisted record is not a guarantee..anyway more on that over the weeks but back to the AD.

We were caught a bit by surprise with the RSD 2022 List of Releases. It’s just been announced, here is a link to the list: RSD 2022 Releases

We will have more in-depth info next week with prices but will start the wishlist in the shop now so the book is open now for any requests!

Right so, the 4th of March, Warner have the brand new BAND OF HORSES album on BMG entitled “ things are great” …6th album now from Ben Bridwell’s alt country rockers from Seattle…there has been a lineup change and Ben says he is back with renewed vigor…this is available on CD, std lp and indie shop only coloured vinyl…i like their sound…here is “ in need of repair” from the new record

BMG also have JOHN MCLAUGHLIN “ the montreux years” on CD and LP, PINK FLOYD MUSIC LTD reissue debut “ piper at the gates of dawn” on mono, yep remastered from the original mono tapes…remaster was 2017 and a very limited release in 2018 so released again now.

Rhino have a reissue of RANDY NEWMANs 4th album “ good old boys” as a 2lp, there is a new MARIANNE FAITHFULL album “ vagabond ways” on cd and lp, mainly covers i think, produced by Daniel Lanois…. brand new SABATON album also out on the 4th March via nuclear blast “ the war to end all wars “ …well hopefully not!…cd, deluxe cd and lp on this one.

Last one from Warner for the 4th of March is the second album from MIKE CAMPBELL AND THE DIRTY KNOBS “ external combustion” on BMG…Mike was TOM PETTYs sidekick in the heartbreakers for years and this is now his second album since his life changed forever in 2017…CD only for now on this one, lp later in the year…here is “ wicked man” from the new album…good ole fashioned rock n roll

UNIVERSAL for the 4th March have the debut album by KAWALA on EMI records called “ better with you” …here is im good like this from the album

Bluenotes Tone Poet series returns with 2 more titles on the 4th March …with SONNY REDs “ out of the blue” and GRANT GREENs “ the latin bit” getting the high quality represses out of Record Technology Incorporated ( RTI)

Because music has a reissue of the CHRISTINE AND THE QUEENS debut album “ Chaleur Humaine” on vinyl.

Lovely, interesting Irish release ( half cork like) out on the 4th of march via Dimple discs is the debut album by Jackknife Lee and Cathal Couglan TELEFIS … the record is called A HAON… it  is an exploration of Irish nostalgia and modern global hierarchies,

strange characters and caricatures springing from Coughlan’s fertile imagination,

while Jacknife Lee creates irresistible electro-funk backdrops full of melodic,

squelchy synths and thunderous basslines.

Here is one of  the tracks from it “ mister imperator”

The Orchard for the 4th of March  sees the release of STEREOPHONICS brand new album ‘Oochya!’, their 12th studio album featuring the new single ‘Hanging On Your Hinges’.

The veteran Welsh rock band were formed 30 years ago, in 1992, and 2022 also marks 25 years since the release of their debut album.

We also have Canadian folk band The Weather Station – ‘How Is It That I Should Look At The Stars‘, self-described as “a quiet, strange album of ballads” – please note stock limited so cuts may have to be made….at the moment we are allocated for 10 copies of the indies vinyl version but with the orchard trust me that can change….just warning ye…last years album was really good…here is “ endless time” from the new one

We hope to get a few copies of THE CORAL self titled lp reissue via ROM on white vinyl …it is expensive at 44 euro…due around the 4th march also.

Proper have a nice few for the 4th of March…Highlights  include the brand new studio album from Dolly Parton…available on cd and lp,  the debut release from the brilliant CMAT….here is “ lonely” from the debut album

CMAT is the stage name of Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, from Dublin Ireland, one to watch out for me thinks…she says  “I realised the thing I was best at in music was toplining – coming up with melodies, lyrics, hooks, arrangements, structure; the skeletal form of everything is what I know I can do.”

Well thats some start! Available on cd, std lp, indies lp and cassette i think also.

Proper also have a  beautifully repackaged reissue from Mulligan Records of the landmark Andy Irvine/Paul Brady album on indies coloured lp and cd….beautiful album.

Going to hand ye over to Shane now who will run through a few interesting but further down the line releases with ye..

Cheers Ray! Hey everyone, hope ye’re good and the week is going smoothly enough. Nothing massive this week compared to last but some interesting ones coming up nonetheless that we thought were worth a mention.

First up is a reissue of the excellent debut record by Goldfrapp, ‘Felt Mountain’. It’s going to be available on limited gold vinyl which is nice. That will be out on March 25th through Warner. Here’s one of the singles from it, ‘Utopia’

Second up is a very limited ‘fastest finger first’ 12″ EP release from up and coming London band FOLLY GROUP, they’ve a post-punky sound, the singer of IDLES is a fan and has been giving them rave reviews. Lots of interesting stuff coming out of London. You picked a good spot Bob! Here’s a track from the new EP

Thirdly is the brand new album by CYPRESS HILL called ‘Back in Black’ (sounds familiar!) which will also be out on March 25th. Their last one ‘Elephants on Acid’ was quality, so looking forward to it.

Also, just a quick note, there are a few other interesting ones coming. A first timer on vinyl live album by QUEENSRYCHE, an interesting hidden gem 70s compilation from David Hepworth and a HALL AND OATES reissue of ‘Marigold Sky’

Anyway those are the main ones that are coming down the line, but not too far away either.

Back to you Ray! Enjoy the gig tonight!

Thanks Shane!

Right INTEGRAL for the 4th march have the reissue of BRONSKI BEATs debut, a brand new Porches album, a lovely couple of reissues from SOUL JAZZ records “ studio one dub” and The Winstons ‘Color Him Father’ .

…its out via nice swan records…i be honest the 3 tunes i have heard from this band are cracking…really cracking.

Sin e for this week really

Im off out galavanting

Thanks for listening as always

Ray, Shane and Young Adam

Johnny Marr Is Back, New Chilis Album With J.F., Beth Hart Does Zeppelin And CD Love

Hi folks

Hope all is well.

Few nice little interesting bits landed into the shop in the last week which I may not have mentioned before now. We are delighted to get some copies of the new ARRIVALISTS album on CD …beautifully packaged CD to be fair, full of beautiful songs…” last of the written words “ it is called.

We have got copies of JOHN BLEK’S “ on ether and air” on cassette!!

And local metal band SOOTHSAYER have a brand new cd out “ echoes of the earth”…the new BIG THIEF album is sounding only lush to me also.

Right firstly we have releases in the siopa for this Friday the 11th Feb …the new ALT J record “ the dream “ , SLASH album featuring MYLES KENNEDY AND THE CONSPIRATORS
AMORPHIS “ halo” ,BRUNO MARSSEPULTURA,  John Prine tribute album, new EMPATH STOCKTON’S WING,  FRANK TURNER,  KANYE WEST and EDDIE VEDDER‘s new solo album

Khruangbin & Leon BridgesWHITE LIES , SPIRITUALIZED

.i think i may have forgot to plug the Cargo releases for the 18th last week with all my excitement in giving out about spotify…i won’t go there again for fear of more abuse..( im serious !) so Cargo for the 18th Feb have the new album by ANDY BELL “ flicker” as CD or limited clear vinyl, there is a ROLLING STONES “live in london and detroit 1969” tv and radio broadcasts on Rhythm and blues records and there are 2 JOHN FRUSCIANTE LP reissues of “ the empyrean “ and “ curtains” …Shane will have more on Frusciante later…oh yes indeedy…KANYE’s – my dark twisted lp is finally going to be back in stock thursday if anyone interested.

Right so , moving onto the releases for the 25th of Feb…Warner have the new JOHNNY MARR album on BMG/ADA called “ fever dreams pts 1 to 4” …it comprises a few eps released last year…i really like Johnny’s three solo albums to be honest, all good …this one is available as CD, std black vinyl as well as a limited turquoise vinyl…we were allocated 16 copies of this version so fine for now but wont last long either…here is “ lightning people” from the new record

Warner also for the 25th Feb have a brand new SOFT CELL album on BMG also…” happiness not included” …good title…MARC ALMOND and DAVE BALL return with their 5th studio album and first album in 20 years! This one is available on CD and indies only yellow vinyl version…here is “ heart like chernobyl” from the new album.

Warner also has a TANKARD boxset, brand new AVRIL LAVIGNE on CD and a new RICHARD CLAYDERMAN comp.

UNIVERSAL for the 25th of Feb have a brand new album from TEARS FOR FEARS on Concord…” tipping point” is the title and it is available on a few formats, CD, deluxe CD, std vinyl and a limited indies only green vinyl…fine band in their day and this is their first studio album in nearly 20 years also…here is the title track for the album

Tears For Fears – The Tipping Point (Official Music Video) – YouTube

Another interesting release from Concord on the 25th of Feb is the new ROBERT GLASPER album “ black radio 3” …CD and LP available on this one from the four time grammy winner..a mish mash of hip hop, R&B and Jazz …quality stuff…here is black superhero from the new album

Robert Glasper – Black Superhero (Official Music Video) – YouTube

Brand new Rock album from SCORPIONS on Spinefarm records also out via Uni.

“ rock believer” is the title and is available as a CD, 2CD deluxe, LP and limited 2LP gatefold ..the deluxe versions have the full 16 tracks…just 11 tracks on the one disc versions.

Impulse reissue two Jazz classics with self titled releases of DUKE & COLTRANE and also COLTRANE & JOHNNY HARTMANN.

UMC have a reissue of YUSEF/CAT STEVENS “ teaser & the firecat” and there is a CURTIS STIGERS release on cd and lp..compilation type of thing.

Sony for the 25th of Feb has a debut album by Londoner BAKAR on black butter records…its available on cd. Lp and an indies only white version also…could be hearing a lot more from him i think in years to come…here is the 1st time from the debut record

Bakar – 1st Time (Official Video) – YouTube

Lots of talk/articles online about “the cd revival”…it never needed to be revived from where we sit, granted we do more vinyl but we do sell nice levels on cd as well…generally on the new releases to be fair…back catalogue is slow to be fair ( our customers have the back catologue already!!) …in the uk in 2021 physical music was up 7.3% on 2020…the first growth in physical music in nearly 20 years…see the cd was in decline year after year…CD sales increased by nearly 2% last year for again the first time in 20 years…vinyl grew once more by over 20% in the uk to 135 million pounds…is there a stabilization of the physical formats? We hope so obviously!…streaming has the bulk of the revenue with 85% of the market and downloads fell again by 27% …back to the CD…if you are an up and coming band /artist ( in my opinion) you have to produce a cd..ideally vinyl also..tee shirts, mugs, lyric books, hats, sandals..anything else you can sell from your merch table after a small show…you will sell them…bands that don’t produce a CD are nuts in my opinion…why not ? cost of making them is low and they will sell…why not make them…it makes no sense …and we saw it in the last few years that some bands/artists were not releasing their albums on CD…mistake in my opinion, you should be….CD sales were probably helped along last year by the trouble with stocking vinyl and also  the price difference between the two formats…sometimes a CD is a third of the price of the lp…thats mad as well…look from where things were for the physical record shops 10/12 years ago…its great to see growth again…there was a cull of record shops back then when probably only 20% of shops survived…over 200 here in 2005 and down to 40 by 2013..UK similar…over 2000 down to less than 300 shops in 2012…last shop standing was really a thing…fingernails stuff i remember it well, running on fumes..not enjoyable…so look hopefully a period of stability ahead for us record shops with lots of cds and lps selling and a few cassettes throw in !!

Going to hand over to Shane now as he tells ye about some interesting further down the line releases …

Sound Ray, cheers!

Hey everyone! Hope ye’re all getting on ok! Definitely some interesting ones to mention this week. Biggies as well.
First up is the third album by Australian band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. They’ve a really good summery indie sound. We all enjoyed their last two in the shop. Lots of good stuff coming from Australia in recent years. This one is called ‘Endless Rooms’ and it’s out on the 6th of May. We were only allocated a small amount of the indies yellow coloured vinyl… so as Bob and Ray say, ‘fastest fingers first’ for them here
Best to order straight from the link there if interested as emails might be missed over night/until morning.

Second up is the brand new album by RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS called ‘Unlimited Love’. It’s going to be released on April 1st. First album back with legendary guitar player John Frusciante since ‘Stadium Arcadium’ I think in the 06/07 season. They released the first single from it a few days ago and John’s playing/sound is recognizable straight away…here tis
He’s a lucky boy to be alive, like a lot of musicians down the years.
Great to see him back. We will have the indies coloured version plus other formats!

Thirdly, and another biggie, LIAM GALLAGHER‘s new solo record is coming on May 27th. ‘C’mon You Know’ it’s called. Liam has been doing well in the last few years.

and finally, two quick mentions. There’s a nice Hip-Hop compilation coming on March 18th, not too far away, with loads of big names included. It’s on limited coloured vinyl from Music on Vinyl.

And we will have vinyl copies of the debut album by Cork band ROWAN, they’ve a good sound, here’s ‘Everybody Talks’

Back to the gaffer!

Thanks Shane!

We have a few videos to share as well…Young Adam makes his debut!!

here’s last week’s:

and this weeks vid:

Right Integral for the 25th feb were to have the new SPIRITUALIZED album but its now moved to April…it turned into a dogs dinner for us as we thought we were allocated 4 copies of deluxe vers and 4 of jap vers …only to be told this week just 1 copy of each now…had to disappoint 6 people…not finding a record when someone buys it off the site and overselling are two parts of the job that bug the hell out of me…the missing record is one of those things, human error somewhere, it will happen, apologise and move on…its an error….but the overselling does my head in…give us a firm allocation, be it 1 but dont say 10 and then its 2…it leaves us exposed and you cant blame folk for being pissed off…anyway spiritualized was a dogs dinner as was slash cd boxset..sorry again to those affected.

PROPER for the 25th feb have a brand new BETH HART release on Provogue “ a tribute to Led Zeppelin” on cd, std 2lp and indies only orange 2lp…some undertaking!!

Here is “ good times, bad times” from the album…they make a fine fist of it in fairness

Beth Hart – Good Times Bad Times (A Tribute To Led Zeppelin) – YouTube

Proper also have a brand new TANGERINE DREAM album as well as the new HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT CD.

INTEGRAL for the 4th March have a reissue on London records of BRONSKI BEATS “ age of consent” , there is a brand new album from PORCHES on Domino called “ all day gentle hold!” and SOUL JAZZ records have a couple of nice releases…STUDIO ONE DUB gets reissued for the first time in 18 years ..available as an orange coloured CD and as a strictly one press only on 2lp orange vinyl with download code…lastly SOUL JAZZ reissue THE WINSTONS “ color him father” on LP and a one sided 12”…” amen brother” a track on the album is the most sampled drum break of all time..over 5000 samples…THE WINSTONS were made up from the backing bands of Otis Redding and Curtis Mayfield ( say no more nearly Raymond) and only released this one album before splitting up ( citing difficulties in america with touring due to their inter racial line up)….this lp has not been out for over 50 years and now soul jazz are putting it out…one press only again…here is “ amen brother” from THE WINSTONS

The Winstons – Amen Brother – YouTube

Sin e for this week really folks

Thanks for listening as always!

Ray, Shane and Young Adam.

AMORPHIS “ halo” ,BRUNO MARSSEPULTURA,  John Prine tribute album, new EMPATH STOCKTON’S WING,  FRANK TURNER,  KANYE WEST and EDDIE VEDDER‘s new solo album

Well a week when the Canadians tried to put some manners on Spotify…ill be honest, i was hoping it was going to snowball…they need manners put on them, be it for whatever rubbish they allow to be spouted from their platform or more importantly for me is the remuneration policy they have for musicians plays…top 1 per cent make dosh, most of the rest get a cup of coffee a year at best id say….i’d love a look under their financial hood to see how profitable they are…there was a new streaming platform launched out of Ireland in the past few weeks ( MINM) who claim to give artists a very fair remuneration…did i read 50% per cent of revenue…time will tell but i do believe there is a huge appetite to support artists/creators properly so hopefully the wheels of change will slowly start turning.

Right so onto Friday the 18th Feb…Warner have the vinyl release of the new DAVID CROSBY album “ for free” …CD came out last year…this is a really good listen in my opinion…i like Croz, he seems like a great character…there’s a really good rockumentary on Netflix called “ echos of the canyon” with Jakob Dylan as the chief character  which has lots about the mid 60s in Laurel Canyon with THE BEACH BOYSTHE BYRDSBUFFALO SPRINGFIELDTHE MAMAS & PAPAS etc etc…Croz is interviewed a few times in it…he says “… “do you know why i was kicked out of the byrds?” to Dylan…” do you know why I was kicked out of the byrds?” and he looks straight into the camera and says “ because i was an asshole”…ah sher gotta love that Croz… here is Jakob with Jade Castrinos doing a mamas and papas cover…quality stuff altogether…what a voice she has

Go Where You Wanna Go – Jakob Dylan – Jade – The Mamas and the Papas – YouTube

Jays i do gets sidetracked…meandering around the gaff…Crozs new lp is out via BMG on the 18th Feb and there is an indies only version available also.

ADA/BLIX have a deluxe audiophile 45 RPM reissue of EVA CASSIDYS seminal album “ songbird”, there is a new album by FORENZICS…Forenzics is an exciting new project from former Split Enz members Eddie Rayner and Tim Finn.

The project saw two artistic endeavours meet in the middle and started when Eddie and Tim had been revisiting some of their favorite sections from lesser-known Split Enz works, using them as inspiration and the basis for new songs.

HURRAY FOR THE RIFF RAFF aka Alynda Segarra has signed to Nonesuch records and releases a brand new album with them…11 new songs….” life on earth” it is called and will be available on CD or LP…here is a track from the new album…” pierced arrows”

Hurray for the Riff Raff – PIERCED ARROWS (Official Video) – YouTube

Parlophone issue a stereo remix of MARILLIONS second album “ Fugazi” on cd or lp, there is a YOKO ONO tribute album on Atlantic, some serious people on the recording,  PINK FLOYDs P.U.L.S.E restored and reedited bluray and dvd formats will be joining us on the 18th feb also, ,,,first time on bluray for this one, what a show…these versions for initial orders also have the iconic flashing light ala the original albums back in the day…95 was it maybe 94…and lastly from Warner for the 18th feb is a LP reissue of ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN compilation album “ SONGS TO LEARN AND SING” .

Universal for the 18th of Feb have the brand new METRONOMY album “ small world” on because music…it is their 7th studio album…there is a ltd transparent vinyl available.

Debut record coming out on Real World on the 18th feb also which one of the most lauded vocalists in Africa ROKIA KONE teaming up with our own JACKNIFE LEE…” bamanan” is the name of the record…here is Kurunba from it

Rokia Koné & Jacknife Lee – Kurunba (Official Video) – YouTube

There are a couple of nice bluenote lp reissues out via Uni on the 18th…JOE HENDERSON “ inner urge” and LEE MORGAN “ caramba” ..2 nice ones.

Sony have a quiet 18th feb…maybe jazz vocalist JUDI JACKSON debut album is worth a spin.

Sad news yesterday when i read that Isaac Wood was stepping away from his band BLACK COUNTRY NEW ROAD…here is what he said ““I have bad news which is that I have been feeling sad and afraid too. And I have tried to make this not true but it is the kind of sad and afraid feeling that makes it hard to play guitar and sing at the same time”

You have to wish the young man so well and hope he can find peace and contentment.

The Orchard for the 18th have a new JOSS STONE CD “ never forget my love” , Orchard also have  the release of Bobby Weir And The Wolf Bros on Third Man with a Limited Opaque Jade & Gold Vinyl as well as CD.

Second week on newsletter duties now with the gaffer, getting into the swing of it a bit more.
Lots of releases but sure that’s good. That was one of the positives from the lockdowns, the releases kept coming and kept us all somewhat sane!

So, a few interesting ones coming in the next few weeks and months that we have up for ‘pre-order’…
Firstly, Placebo have a brand new album coming out March 25th. Good band! Their first in years. Here’s the first single from it:

Then there’s a compilation by Tindersticks, ‘The Past Imperfect: Best Of ’92-21 on a few formats. Also out on March 25th. I haven’t listened to much of their earlier stuff but the last few albums were big favourites in the shop.

Electronic pioneers KRAFTWERK have an album of remixes coming out too. Some big names involved including William Orbit and Hot Chip! That’s out on March 25th as well.

A bit further ahead, blues guitar legends Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder have a collaboration album coming in April…here’s a great little tune from them:

And finally, on March 11th, the last studio album reissue from PJ Harvey, The Hope Six Demolition Project…album and demos. I really like that album, one of my favourites of hers. The reissues have been reasonably priced too which is good.

Just to note as well, the new BEACH HOUSE record has been pushed back for release, now due on April 8th.

Back to you Ray!

Thanks Shane!

Hi folks,

Bob-Man here for the final time.

Last shift for the MZ HQ today. Emotional stuff!
Been a funny turn of the year with being out for 10 days with Covid, feel like i’ve barely been in the siopa, but the big moving day now confirmed for Friday week.
Will be in the shop in person once or twice more between now and then to pick up a few LPs, so hopefully will catch a few of ye before I go. Will be on the opposite side of the counter, better learn how to start slagging the boss-man! Any tips sure send ’em my way!!

A huge, heartfelt thank you to all of you who call in to the shop, phone in, email in, tweet in, everyone! Hopefully get to see some of you all before I fly off x

The video is back this week, we have it up at the link below!

The main week of focus for today is releases for February 4th.
We’ll start off with Universal who have a few nice bits announced. Kicking us off is a nice indies / high street exclusive reissue of MR. PAUL MCCARTNEY’s third studio (and first Wings) album ‘Wild Life’, pressed as a 1/2 Speed Master on black vinyl.

There are two nice reissues on the Blue Note Tone Poet Series of STANLEY TURRENTINE’s ‘Rough N’ Tumble’ & JOE PASS’ ‘For Django’. There is also a brand new record from BASTILLE ‘Give Me The Future’ through Uni, landing on CD or Indies Coloured Vinyl.

Last few bits for February 4th from Universal, there is a new album from Nu Metal pioneers KORN ‘Requiem’ out on CD or Indies Only Vinyl, a new VANGELIS release on vinyl of ‘Juno to Jupiter’, and finally a 2CD format of the JOHN WILLIAMS X THE BERLIN CONCERT

Warner for February 4th have SAXON’s new album ‘Carpe Diem’, landing in with us on CD, Indies Only Exclusive Vinyl, or as a lovely CD / Vinyl Deluxe Box Set. They also have a GOO GOO DOLLS compilation reissue of ‘Greatest Hits : Vol 1 The Singles’ on vinyl.

Integral for the 4th of Feb have the new album by BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD. Went back listening a lot to the debut record again in the last few weeks. For myself, it’s the standout album of the year for me for 2021. Only 6 tracks, but 40 minutes of class. So fierce excited for this new record ‘Ants From Up There’. Few formats on this, there is a CDDeluxe 2CD with bonus live showStandard VinylLimited Exclusive Blue Vinyl, and a Deluxe 4LP Set which has the live show also. Signed vinyl sold out now i’m afraid.

Another really nice release from Integral for Feb 4th is the compilation release from THE DIVINE COMEDY ‘Charmed Life : The Best Of The Divine Comedy’. Few formats on this, including 2CDDeluxe 3CD with a bonus disc of extra material, a Standard Vinyl, and a Limited Edition Coloured Vinyl press.

Integral also have the brand new record from MITSKI ‘Laurell Hell’ on CD, Cassette or Vinyl (Red Indies Vinyl sold out), a new JOSIENNE CLARKE EP, and a new release from ANIMAL COLLECTIVE.

Sony for Feb 4th have a PETE TONG vinyl release of ‘Pete Tong & Friends : Ibiza Classics’.

Proper for Feb 4th have ACE FREHELY’s ‘Greatest Hits Live’ reissue as a 2LP Exclusive Orange Vinyl, and a vinyl reissue of ENTOMBED’s ‘Left Hand Path‘ via Ear Ache.

The Orchard for Feb 4th have a nice pink vinyl reissue of GRANDADDY’s ‘The Sophtware Slump… On A Wooden Piano’, a 20th Anniversary reissue of ALKALINE TRIO’s ‘From Here To Infirmary’, and the brand new record from CATE LE BON ‘Pompeii’ on CD or Indies Yellow Vinyl.

Moving onto down the line bits for the week. Shaney Boi was giving me a hand today with the website so we’ve got through a good bit of new pre-orders. Will rattle them off fairly quickly!

Warner have a lovely reissue of PINK FLOYD’s 1967 debut LP ‘Piper At The Gates Of Dawn’, pressed as a limited mono vinyl, and at a very decent price it must be said. Cracking album, I love the Syd era myself I must say!

JOHNNY MARR’s new collection of EP’s ‘Fever Dreams Pts. 1-4’ is getting a release as a CDVinyl or Indies Exclusive Turquoise Vinyl. We struggled to get our lámha on these EP’s as they were coming out, so thankfully they are getting released all together as an album. This one is coming in February via BMG / Warner.

ALODUS HARDING is back with her new album ‘Warm Chris’, released via 4AD in March. This is the follow up to ‘Designer’ from 2019 which was a favourite in the shop. CD or Standard Black Vinyl for this one, allocated on the vinyl so if interested website or let us know ASAP best way, may be gone by the time March comes around.

Speaking of favourites in the shop, the brilliant THE DELINES are back with a brand new album ‘The Sea Drift’, due for release on CD or Vinyl on February 11th. The Oregan based groups previous outing ‘The Imperial’ from 2019 was a firm favourite with both customers and ourselves, so looking forward to hearing this! Here is new single ‘Kid Codeine’

Right last few bits so for down the line. Said i’d rattle through them and feel i’m ranting through them. We have a very small allocation of the new ARAB STRAP new 7” ‘Aphelion’, these are gonna be gone fairly fast so through the website again is safest, as emails may be missed, only a small few landing in. This is due March 4th. Warner have a vinyl reissue of ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN’s compilation LP ‘Songs To Learn To Sing’ due for release on February 18th. Alex Lifeson, guitarist of Rush, has a new project entitled ENVY OF NONE coming on April 8th via KScope. Quite an industrial feel to it. Here is lead single ‘Liar’

Finally for down the line releases for this week, we will have CD copies of 17 year old Dublin busker / YouTuber SAIBH SKELLY’s debut EP ‘Undercover Heartbreak’, being released on Rubyworks. This one is due for release on April 8th.

Lastly for mise for this week folks is Integral for February 11th, and a few nice ones again. The new BIG THIEF album ‘Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You’. Not many left to sell here, the indies vinyl is fully sold out, and only 3 copies of the standard vinyl left, so if interested fastest fingers first here may be safest option. CD due in also on this.

There is a lovely 15th Anniversary reissue of MIDLAKE’s class album ‘Trials Of Van Occupanther’ pressed on gold vinyl for release on Feb 11th, as well as a reissue of SPOON’s 10th album ‘Lucifer On The Sofa’. This one is coming on CDVinyl or Indies Only Vinyl. Very very tight allocation on the Indies Only Vinyl (only 1 to sell sorry), so up on the site now and fastest fingers first again on it, sorry.

FOXES new album ‘The Kick’ is being released on the 11th of Feb as a Deluxe CD (Vinyl not released on this one until April 8th), and finally there is a new studio album from Danish composer and producer TRENTMOLLER entitled ‘Memoria’ coming as a 2LP via In My Room.

Right so sin sin from mise (for the last time on this!),
Thanks as always for listening,
Signing off as the Bob-Man for the final time, see you all down the line!

Love Record Stores 2021 Lists Announced, New Primal Scream & Black Sabbath Box!

Hi everyone,
Hope you are all keeping safe and well this week.
Bobby here this week, boss-man is off on a well earned break, so myself and Shane will be holding the fort for the next week and a bit.

We’ll start today with a bit of house keeping before flying through the releases for the next few weeks (may be flying these next two weeks to fit everything in). First up we would like to say a massive thank you to NIAMH REGAN for her truly special in-store Friday 30th of July, and to all who came to support. It was lovely to have live music back in the siopa again, really enjoyed it. Looking forward to seeing Niamh back in Cork for her show in Coughlan’s in November!

Some big news breaking this week with the announcement that LOVE RECORD STORES (LRS I will refer it to as from here on) is going ahead again this year. Again, releases will be very limited, and like RSD we can not hold or put away any stock. It will be sold on Saturday September 4th in-store from 9AM first come first served, and all remaining stock will be online from 6PM. (More info here in the coming weeks). So there is three companies involved this year, Integral, Cargo and Republic of Music. I will attach a full list of releases below from all three companies, but I only have pricing for Integral as we speak. Most of the releases are down for September 4th, but a few Integral releases are marked for later release. All the orders will still go up in the next week.

With Ray being away this week and the orders needing to go up, we will not be taking wish lists. We hope to order in enough stock to cover the titles, but there will be cuts and disappointments, with stock being so limited. We will do our best to cover everything people may be interested in, and will communicate any problems and cuts as we know more. So here is the list for the full LRS 2021 release :

Right so, on to releases for this Friday the 6th of August. There is the release of the GEORGE HARRISON ‘All Things Must Pass’ 50th Anniversary Boxsets on a few formats. We will have new releases by JACKSON BROWNEMR JUKES & BARNEY ARTIST, STAINDBARBRA STREISANDWILLY MASON, WILL YOUNGDAVELIARS, TROPICAL FUCK STORM, and the DEMON’S SOULS OST on vinyl.. There are reissues due from LCD SOUNDSYSTEMBRIAN MAYO.M.D, SONNY CLARK, MCCOY TYRNERMAX RICHTER, THE ART OF NOISE, and NIGHTWISH..

There is no video this week with Ray being away, will be back to that in a week or two!

No giving out from me this week folks, will have to think of something over the next 7 days for next week! Will just fly through the releases today. If there is anything we didn’t manage to get a link up for today, pop us an email at and we will note it in the order book for you!  Starting us off for the 20th of August, Warner have CHRISSIE HYNDE’s ‘Standing in the Doorway: Chrissie Hynde Sings Bob Dylan’ on CD or Vinyl, the vinyl release of FEAR FACTORY’s newest LP and the new SEPULTURA vinyl release, a reissue of EXODUS ‘Shovel Head Kill Machine’, and a reissue of GARBAGE’s self titled LP and ‘Garbage 2.0’ on Vinyl or 2CD.

They also have a new MARTHA WAINWRIGHT album ‘Love Will Be Reborn’ on CD or vinyl, as well as a limited CD version of STURGILL SIMPSON’s new album (and third in 12 months!) ‘The Ballad Of Good & Juanita’. No vinyl as of yet on this one. December I think for the vinyl release. This indies CD comes with an exclusive print.

Republic of Music for the 20th have a few nice releases and represses. First up, one of the favourites of 2021 in the siopa so far, there is a much in demand repress of the new FLOATING POINTS, PHAROAH SANDERS & THE LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA album ‘Promises’. There will be a 5LP Vinyl set or a 4CD Set released, both featuring live and rare material, out-takes and a full new mix of the album done by Steven Wilson.

Next up is the reissue of EVA CASSIDY’s 1996 live album ‘Live At Blues Alley’ for the albums 25th Anniversary. It will be reissued on CD and for first time on vinyl, pressed at 45RPM for enhanced audio quality, and is due to land in on October 15th. Finally on the future release front is the vinyl release of TWENTY ONE PILOT’s new album ‘Scaled And Icy’, which is due in in November on standard vinyl or indies exclusive clear vinyl.

Our playlist is now live for new releases for August 20th at the following link :

There is the release of BIG RED MACHINE’s new album ‘How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?’ on CD (vinyl now pushed back until October 15th). We are sold out of the indies vinyl, and i’m afraid have very limited stock only remaining on the standard vinyl, both formats were limited and allocated.

They also have the 12” Remix of NEW ORDERS’ ‘Be A Rebel Remixed‘ on CD or clear vinyl. STEVE GUNN returns with a brand new album ‘Other You’ available on CD or Indies Only Clear Vinyl. Guitarists MARISA ANDERSON & WILLIAM TYLER join together to release ‘Lost Futures’ via Thrill Jockey on August 27th. DESCRIPTION : Alfredito “”Sabor”” Linares is a globetrotting pianist, composer, bandleader and producer from Lima, Peru with a long, prolific career in hot Latin music spanning more than half a century.Though Linares has come to recent international fame through his work with William “”Quantic”” Holland, he was already quite popular and famous in his adopted countries of Colombia and Venezuela in the 1970s and 80s during the salsa boom. However, his career began in Lima, backing timbalero Ñico Estrada at age 17 in 1961, and Alfredito’s first notable recording as a sideman was a few years later on the now legendary
‘El Combo de Pepe’ album for IEMPSA/Odeon.Subsequently Linares would advance his career by recording two fabulous records under his own capable leadership as Alfredo Linares Y Su Sonora at the end of the decade for the MAG label. These releases capitalized on recent developments in New York Latin music, namely Latin jazz, boogaloo, descarga (jam session) and what would later be marketed as “”salsa”” with roots in the Cuban guaguancó and guaracha genres. One can hear direct inspiration coming from Joe Cuba, Ricardo Ray, and Eddie Palmieri, especially on the first album, ‘El Pito’, and yet
by the second record, there are plenty of original tunes as well.More importantly there is a ‘swing’ and assertiveness to the playing (and arrangements) that prove every bit as authentic, tough and danceable as their New York inspirations. As Linares himself recounts, “”In that era, we fought against a generation that was half-blind, because the people who understood what we were doing were few.We had to fight hard for our space in Perú, that’s where the swing comes from.”” That special ‘swing’ also emanated from Linares’ ace backing band, which happened to be a talented stable of MAG studio musicians who all understood Cuban and jazz music: percussionists Mario Allison and Coco Lagos, bassist Joey di Roma, Kiko Fuentes and Carlos Muñoz on lead vocals and Melcochita on coro (vocal chorus).According to Linares, the studio band was “”open-ended, some musicians came some days, others on other days…Nilo Espinoza on saxophone, Betico Salas and Tito Chicoma on trumpets.Otto de Rojas played piano, and so did Charlie Palomares, who played vibraphone.Another good musician was guitarist Carlos Hayre.”” Though the recordings were cut “”live in the studio”” and many were basically composed on the spot, the intrinsic strength and maturity of the performances on ‘Yo Traigo Boogaloo’ stand the test of time as one of Peru’s most important contributions to tropical music across
the decades, establishing Alfredito Linares as a master of the idiom and serving as a harbinger for great things to come for him in Colombia and Venezuela.Long sought after by collectors, DJs and lovers of hard salsa and boogaloo alike, ‘Yo Traigo Boogaloo’ is now lovingly reissued in replica form with the original cover art, remastered from the studio tapes, reproducing that magical MAG studio sound for today’s aficionados to enjoy like it was 1969 all over again.”

26th SeptemberChuck MosleyFirst Hellos And Last GoodbyesLPPressed On Aqua Blue Vinyl.Exclusively For RSD 2020.Debuts on RSD.1100 copies worldwide. As Chuck Mosley (ex Faith No More & Bad Brains) embarked on the Reintroduce Yourself Tour, which saw him play around 160 shows during the last two years of his life, he had an idea about releasing a live collection of songs.Part of the point of the tour was to give Chuck a chance to revisit his past, in Cement, VUA, and even some stuff he wrote way back in the day. This release has a mix of those, along with one brand new song, Blue Heart, which he wrote a few months before passing.Quality recordings are scarce and others were sabotaged by off-time clapping, buzzing old amps, and endless stage banter. While we were never polished, never perfect, nor did we get all the lyrics correct, this record is 100% Chuck Mosley, and we think you’ll dig it.Track listing: A Side 1.Sophie (Live in Manchester) 2.Blue Heart (Live in Knoxville) 3.Come Around (Live in Huntsville) 4.Song #2 (Live in Huntsville).B Side: 1.Nameless (Live in Manchester) 2.Tractor (Live in London) 3.Bella Donna (Live in London) 4.Bob Forest (Live in London) 5.C to G (Douglas’ unapproved hidden track)

First time on vinyl; a limited edition in dark red & dark yellow coloured vinyl, on 2xLP with five bonus ‘Live at Max’s’ tracks only previously available on bootleg.JOHNNY THUNDERS & WAYNE KRAMER’S ‘GANG WAR’ In 1979, JOHNNY THUNDERS, renowned Heartbreakers and New York Dolls guitarist, teamed up with WAYNE KRAMER, also legendary guitarist of Detroit’s seminal MC5, to form ‘GANG WAR’, an alliance that lasted the best part of a year.Although Gang War released no records and without a label – at the time they were an underground act; in retrospect the collaboration is looked on as a ‘rock fantasy’ supergroup. These live recordings bear testimony to this unique partnership between two celebrated rock guitar icons.Gang War came about shortly after Johnny released his ‘So Alone’ album, and Wayne was not long out of jail after serving two years of a sentence of four for a coke bust.Arriving in Detroit with the Heartbreakers, Johnny met his teenage idol Wayne who jammed with them at the gig.Johnny stayed on, moving his family to Michigan and pledging his future to Gang War.They toured regularly and recorded a couple of demos with a view to getting a deal, but although there was great interest, after eight or nine months they split. On these recordings, both contribute lead vocals and guitars on Thunders and Dolls tracks such as London Boys, Endless Party and M.I.A.; songs familiar from Kramer and MC5 such as Ramblin’ Rose and Hey Thanks, and fascinating cover versions such as These Boots Are Made For Walking and The Harder They Come.Together with the between-track repartee they also demonstrate the difference between the two – as Wayne Kramer has said: “Music is important to me and I value the honor, the opportunity, to be an important musician.Johnny, on the other hand didn’t consider himself a musician. He considered himself an entertainer.”

Released to mark the turn of the new millennium in 2001, the “Icky Flix” DVD showcased The Residents award winning videos in glorious technicolour. To accompany those icky old films, the group also produced brand new recordings of each of the twenty songs, providing an alternate new soundtrack to some otherwise ancient visual material.
Inspired in places, plain ridiculous in others, “Icky Flix – The Original Soundtrack Recording” now brings together those Residential classics in their unedited entirety, as reworked by the group and singer Molly Harvey in the year 2000.
Familiar to fans, enticing to the curious and just too damn weird to everybody else, this is The Residents up to their old tricks again, reworking some of their favourite old tunes in their own style.Whether or not some members of the group ever realised they’d recorded the originals of those tunes in the first place is anybody’s guess.
Available exclusively for Record Store Day 2020, on coloured vinyl and in limited quantities worldwide.
26th SeptemberRobbie BashoSelection From The Songs Of AvatarsLPCompletely unreleased album.Robbie Basho (1940-1986) is widely regarded as one of the progenitors of what’s commonly known today as American Primitive guitar.Growing up in Maryland alongside neo-traditional guitar explorers John Fahey and Max Ochs, Basho’s path would take a decidedly different turn, bringing Hindi, Indian, Japanese and Native American musical traditions into his work. His albums for Takoma and Vanguard have left an indelible trail of influence across generations of musicians, from William Ackerman and Pete Townshend to Ben Chasny and William Tyler.Liam Barker first became aware of Basho having purchased Tompkins Square’s reissue of Venus in Cancer, released in 2006.This led him on an incredible fact-finding expedition, unraveling the many layers of mystery surrounding Basho’s life and death, all deftly compiled and depicted in his documentary film, Voice of the Eagle : The Enigma of Robbie Basho.During the research process, Barker came across a large cache of unheard Basho tapes recorded throughout his career, ranging roughly from 1965-1985.By arrangement with Basho’s Estate and the original custodians of the tapes, Tompkins Square is set to release Song of the Avatars : The Lost Master Tapes, a 5CD set of previously unreleased material. The label will release a single disc vinyl LP on Record Store Day 2020 as well. The set includes notes by Barker, Henry Kaiser, Steffen Basho-Junghans, Glenn Jones and Richard Osborn, as well as many unseen photographs.Side One 1/If I Had Possession 2/Gypsy Rosary 3/Come to Me Side Two 1/Golden Palomino 2/American Sunday 3/Bride of Thunder 4/Califia –all tracks unreleased.

One of the things missing in folk’s lives that read this newsletter (music)… Some of Mick’s crew were in and around the shop one the last week and it’s only when you hear their stories first hand and how their working lives have been completely turned upside down, you truly grasp the gravity of their situation… I know I am preaching to the converted here a bit as I know most of ye support record shops, labels, bands, artists, venues, gigs etc, but I for one have been making a conscious effort to try and support our sector… Songs From An Empty Room was another great event to help shine a light on the unsung heroes of the industry… Let’s do our best folks.. Mick’s ‘Alive‘ album will help support his own band and crew.. If you want a copy give us a nod… Even if you want a copy for someone for Christmas, give us a nod… Lecture over… Apologies!!!

We got some savage news yesterday with the announcement that the mighty BIFFY CLYRO are doing a virtual in-store with us on Tuesday August 18th 2020 at 6:30PM.. Pre-Order the new Biffy album ‘A Celebration Of Endings’ from us for access to a once off, private virtual Zoom in-store with them.. Numbers are limited on this, it’s a lovely thing for us as a shop to be involved with.. So thanks to Biffy, their management and Warner for putting the pieces together.. Bobby here is a huge fan of the band as I know a few of ye out there are also… This is remote intimacy at it’s most intimate… The lads will play a few songs and there will be a live chat with fans.. Ah sure if you are a fan of the band, it’s as sweet as a nut… If a music fan in general, it’s a lovely, bespoke thing to do… For the price of an album.. Sure where would you be going like.. Bob has the links to buy the album and to get your unique code for the in-store…

A little Bob note added in… I have gone to see Biffy over 10 times live,  one of the only bands I would travel abroad to see.. Hands down one of the best live bands around today, and this should be a treat. My first ever gig was seeing them in the Olympia in 2009, and the most recent was headlining Indiependence last year (great to have the boys back on our doorstep!). 10 years and i’ve never seen the lads put on anything less than an amazing show.. Truly an honour to be involved with this, hosting virtually my own favourite band! So again a massive thanks to the band, management and Warner for making this happen!

Back to the bossman!

Right, also this Friday is the PAUL MCCARTNEY reissues, deluxe of ‘Flaming Pie’ on various formats… This Friday we also have BOBBIE GENTRY’s magical ‘Delta Sweete‘ with a bonus 10 tracks on both formats, and we have MAX RICHTER ‘Voices’, new ones from CREEPERTHE PSYCHEDELIC FURS, and ALANIS MORRISETTE.. Sony for next friday week the 7th of August have FLEETWOOD MAC’s ‘Before The Beginning Vol. 2 : Live and Demo Versions’ vinyl.. This is Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac really.. Peter Green rest in peace sir.. You had an incredibly creative yet somewhat tragic life in some ways… Immensely talented musician, some great Fleetwood Mac albums.. ‘Then Play On’ my own favourite.. I think he admitted himself that he just took too much drugs and it seriously affected his mental health, some might say that the young bands today aren’t taking enough drugs… Sorry did I say that out loud… Anyway, R.I.P Mr. Peter Green..

I missed a plug.. I know ye find that hard to believe… I nearly can’t believe it myself.. But a couple of nice ones, really nice ones, out on the 7th of August I may have failed to mention up to now… Planxty’s ‘After The Break’ and ‘The Woman I Loved So Well’, as well as BELL X1’s ‘Neither Am I’ are all getting reissued on vinyl.. Man is a Door for god sake..) RUMERFANTASTIC NEGROBRUCE HORNSBY, KATE RUSBY (CD only for now) and LEVELLERS... Which has four or five physical formats… PIAS have a release for the 14th of August by BILLY NOMATS.. She is only one the scene in the last 6 or 9 months i’d say… Could be like the LATE LATE SHOW.. Love or hate… She definitely has a few things to say and they may not all be exactly politically correct… I’ll let you make up your own minds on Billy Nomates.. Sleaford Mods are in her corner..

Also out on the 14th of August are some CHRISTY MOORE Vinyl reissues ‘Live in Dublin’ and ‘Iron Behind The Velvet’ and there are a couple of CLANNAD albums being repressed on vinyl ‘Crain Ull’ and ‘Fuaim‘, the only two Clannad albums that featured Enya… There is also a BILL FRISELL reissue on CD and LP of ‘Valentine’, JOHN WILLIAMS ‘Live in Vienna 2LP’, MAX RICHTER reissue of ‘Waltz With Bashir’a CREEDENCE Half Speed Master of ‘Cosmo’s Factory’ and the ENO BROTHER’s ‘Luminous’ on indies only vinyl... 14th of August also sees a print of BRITNEY SPEARS ‘Oops I Did It Again’..

It’s four weeks this Saturday too R.S.D (Record Store Day).. It has come around… 3rd time lucky this year I suppose… Well August 27th is 1 of 3 drop dates.. It obviously won’t be the same as other years… 2 Meters etc, so i’ll chew on it and give some better information over the next few weeks

Video for last two weeks up here now!

Always a hint of squeaky bum time for me this time of year… Not much I can do about it folks except to be as transparent as possible.. What are you on about now boy???
RSD allocations starting to come in and there has been cuts so problems are so far (so in the cases the earlier the better if you can get in to us… with a chill pill in your packet mas é do thoill é.. Here so far is a list of titles that my wishlist exceeded what I am actually getting, in most cases only by one copy to be honest…. May the cards fall and all that… Here’s the problems so far..
Specials single, Queen stuff, Motorhead single, Elvis Costello, John Lennon, Broken Social Scene,  and Weezer (the B-Sides one)… Early bird blah blah blah… Sorry.. I suppose if everyone in every record shop in the UK and Ireland got everything they wanted every year.. The exclusivity would be washed off the event.. It could die off faster that the pricing might kill it… That’s it for RSD for this week.. Next week the music should be announced.. (Bit of a pain in the ring also if i’m to be honest!!)

Anyway, look on to the releases for the 29th of March and there is a few really interesting ones (to me anyway!) so i’m going to start wit PIAS (happy birthday Bonnie O’ Brien!!).. Domino present HENRYK GORECKI Symphony No. 3 (Symphony of Sorrowful Songs), performed by BETH GIBBON‘s and the POLISH NATIONAL RADIO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, conducted by PENDERECKI. Available as a CD or LP, or an indies only CD/DVD or indies only coloured LP with DVD… Beth is supposed to have completely immersed herself in the project.. Obviously the language and the content also.. Could be a spine tingler me thinks.. Hardly nothing online yet with it…

STEVE EARLE and THE DUKES have tribute album called “Guy”, to Earle’s dear friend Guy Clarke. A covers album of Guy’s songs.. Indies only blue vinyl available on this one.. PIAS lastly have a live album by TY SEGALL..

Ok so, Universal for the 29th of March have the debut album by BILLIE EILISH.. Excuse my ignorance here but I thought she was a teeny bopper artist.. (And nothing wrong with that in my opinion, I like pop).. But sh*t was I wrong about her.. The couple of tunes I have heard are different, dark and interesting.. The debut album is called “When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”.. Check out a tune here from the new album

This cailín only turned 17 in December gone, writes or co-writes these songs with her brother Finneas O’ Connell, who also produces her.. Billie Eilish O’ Connell.. Dad is one of our clan by the way.. Could be a huge huge star.. She definitely caught my attention.. Album is available as CD, Clasmshell CD with 3 lithos, posters, tattoos and sticker sheet.. Also available as an indies only pale yellow vinyl on initials… Maith an cailín I say anyway.. Interesting brood i’d say.. Home schooled the kids were.. Anyway, enough for me now.. One to watch…

Good bit more out from Universal on Bonnie’s birthday or Brexit Day.. Crikey this Brexit thing is a soap opera.. May’s a goner i’d say… It’s a joke if it wasn’t so serious.. Anyway, tunes tunes tunes.. Universal are reissuing the last two COCTEAU TWINS albums on LP “Four Calendar Cafe” and “Milk + Kisses”… There’s a FRANK ZAPPA release of “Zappa In New York” limited 5CD tin or 3LP set taken from the analogue tapes…

In 1976, Frank Zappa played four historic sold-out concerts at The Palladium in New York City the week between Christmas and New Year’s. These thrilling shows – described by band member Ruth Underwood as “theatrical, outrageous and raucously funny, but also filled with startling and gorgeous music, dating from Frank’s 1960s output to literally the moment the curtain went up”— served as the source material for the live double album Zappa In New York which was constructed from the best-played performances with overdubs later recorded in the studio.
In celebration of its eventual release in 1978, Zappa In New York will be released on March 29 via Zappa Records/UMC as a suite of expanded anniversary editions to commemorate the album’s recent 40th anniversary. Overseen by the Zappa Family Trust and produced by Ahmet Zappa and Vaultmeister Joe Travers, the expanded versions will be available as a 5CD box set and 3LP 180-gram audiophile grade vinyl. The 5-disc collection, which will be housed in a limited-edition metal tin shaped like a NYC street manhole cover and includes a replica ticket from one of the shows, consists of the main album in its original mix, newly remastered by Bob Ludwig in 2018 and available for the first time since its debut. The four additional discs are loaded with relevant Vault nuggets and more than three hours of unreleased live performances from the NYC Palladium concerts, representing every composition played during the concerts and the best alternate performances of every tune Zappa picked for the original album, all newly mixed in 2018. To achieve the highest-level sound quality, the audio team went back to the original two-inch 24-track multi-track master tapes and transferred every reel at 96kHz 24-bit wavs.  The 3LP set, pressed at Pallas in Germany, features all-analog mastering of the original album mix, unavailable since first issued. Plus, an additional LP of select bonus content from The Vault.

Uni also have, and i’m just gonna rattle them off now as it’s getting late.. LANG LANG new CD..  RAIN TREE CROW LP Release.. BARRY WHITE’s “Love Unlimited” LP reissues or 7CD box.. COLTRANE “58 – The Prestige Recordings” out as an 8LP Set (250 quid) or a 5CD set (80 quid).. KISS “Kissworld” 2LP Best Of..  JOURNEY “Live in Japan” as a DVD/2CD or Blu Ray / 2CD.. STEVEN WILSON 5LP Live Album from The Royal Albert Hall and lastly from Universal is MARVIN GAYE‘s lost album “You’re the Man”, never on LP before…

Sony for the 29th of March have the HANS ZIMMER “World of Hans” vinyl box-set..

Republic of Music for the 29th of March have the new album by EDWYN COLLINS… As ye probably know Edwyn had a couple of serious strokes some time back so now his spirit, recovery, creativity, attitude and resilience are nothing short of remarkable.. ROM also have the new WHITE DENIM out on the 29th of March…

Warner for the 29th have the reissue of KEITH RICHARD‘s 1988 debut solo album “Talk Is Cheap”.. Chalk it down Keith boy… I was talking to my kids the older two… Well the middle two really about the Lee Baths earlier tonight when they were going to bed.. They thought I was talking through my hat… The Lee Fields were mad really when you think back on them for those that remember.. It seemed like thousands of kids in freezing cold waters and a few toilets about.. Health and safety out the window back then.. It’s where the Kingsley is now, on the Straight Road. Do you remember the big diving boards.. Just stone slabs if memory serves right.. Wonder when did they close?? I was born in ’74 and remember being out there a few times… Not a parent in sight!!! Anyway, Keith Richards reissue is on CD, 2CD, Black LP or indies only and very very limited red vinyl.. Box available as well which was mentioned last week..

Warner also have MOTORHEAD live and reissued LPs… 7 titles in total.. Also a new STEVIE NICKS compilation on CD and a new album by YNGWIE MALMSTEEN “Blue Lightening”…

Just hearing now the the JEFF TWEEDY and GRATEFUL DEAD LPs are a problem for RSD… Brón orm…

The Orchard for the 29th of March have new albums from UNKLE called “The Road Part II” on 2CD or Deluxe 4CD or indies only 3LP set.. New ones also from C. DUNCAN AND SON VOLT both of these with indies only LPs. DEVIN TOWNSEND new album also on CD..

Proper for the 29th of March have MEKON’s new album “Desert”

Sin é for this week folks

Ray’s Ads, RSD Orders In and a nice new Lambchop.

Hi Everyone,

How’s the form this evening? Crikey I’m like a bad penny every week really I suppose…one lad said to me a few months back now (and I never really saw it as this, but of course that’s what this is…who am I codding like, not ye I’d say) ‘I read it in your ad’…so I may try and cloak it (I don’t do that really either…caps, yachts etc) but fundamentally as we all know this is a bloody ad…thanks for pointing it out though Terry as I may have been deluding myself it was someit different.

So this week’s Ad from Music Zone towers will commence with new releases in the shop today from DAVID BYRNE, STEPHEN MALKMUS, JACK SAVORETTI, DROPKICK MURPHYS, CINEMATIC ORCHESTRA and FAT WHITE FAMILY.

As well as reissues from THE FALL, ALPHAVILLE.

Right so, moving on to releases for the 22nd of March…just to note, THE GLOAMING 3 LP release date is now the 22nd, moved back from the 8th March.

WEA have the next in the series of NEW ORDER 12”s with ‘Temptation’ as well as brand new albums by ROBIN TROWER and THESE NEW PURITANS.

RECORD STORE DAY orders are all now placed as ye read this, and as with other years, they are in the hands of the record gods…take a bow folks…hopefully we will get a good fill as we have other years but there will be disappointments, as is par for the course with the thing.

If you are early, it is seldom you will be very disappointed…and I will try and flag problems with stock if and when they arise…try be cool if things go wrong…a couple of people last year had pops at us…Crikey we are doing our best and some things are out of our control…there are bigger disappointments in life.

Anyway, anyway it’s done now and thanks so much to all of ye who fired in a wish list to us…greatly appreciated here…Sound!

Wish lists were back about 10% on last year but there probably are a lot less “Big” titles this year…it definitely is more niche…that’s good says us. U2 was the most wished for release with THIN LIZZY, PREFAB SPROUT, WEEZER, MOZ all showing well and a late runner who came into the fray was THE CROW OST… Sin é for RSD for another week…hope to have news of the entertainment next week!

I think I may have forgot PIAS last week…if so, for today they have a new STEPHEN MALKMUS album, a new CINEMATIC ORCHESTRA album, a Best Of  HOTHOUSE FLOWERS CD and an LP reissue by THE FALL of ‘Bend Sinister/The Domesday Pay Off”

LIL STEVEN ‘Soul Fire Live’ gets a 2 Blu Ray release as well as a TOTO release on Eagle Rock, ‘40 Years Around the Sun’ available on 6 formats including Blu Ray + 2 CD, DVD/2CD, 3 Orange Indies Only LPs.

Lastly, UNI have a couple of LP reissues…N.E.R.D. ‘Seeing Sounds’ and LIL YACHTY ‘Nuthin’ 2 Prove’ 2LP release.

Sin é for this week

Return of the Boy From Bray, Caps Back In Hand, And Some Analysis of How The Cookie May Crumble

Hi Everyone,
How’s it going out there??
Some nice new releases in the shop this week by SLEAFORD MODS, JULIA JACKLIN, BETTER OBLIVION COMMUNITY CENTRE, OVER KILL,YOLA, GARY CLARK JR, and reissues by DAVID SYLVIAN, a CURTIS MAYFIELD 4LP Boxset, and some lovely Verve reissues by artists such as BILLIE HOLIDAY, STAN GETZ, BILL EVANS, and WES MONTGOMORY.

Also out is the new GLOAMING 3 album, but only on CD for now folks.. LP pushed back until March 8th i’m afraid..

Bobby back up for the video this week, check it out here.. Some nice bits out..
My new years resolution after week one 2019 of the newsletter was to go back to one finger typing the newsletter but alas that has gone by the wayside… Every week so far this year the lads have to try and decipher my scrawl.. I’m not messing.. I can hand write 5 pages of foolscap in less than an hour… T’was touching 2.5 hours the other way.. Sorry lads… Scrawl is here to stay for now.. Breaking it yo ye gently!!

Anyways, on of the most eagerly awaited albums of 2019 will hit the shelves next Friday the 1st of Mark… The boy from Bray, Andrew HOZIER Byrne returns with his second long player, “Wasteland, Baby” on CD or 2LP.. It has been 4 and a half years since the release of his first record.. Sept 19th 2014 to be exact. Lily O’ Brien joined us at 00:40 on the 20th of September 2014, hence my recollection.. Big album from the boy so I hope it does really well… We are doing a pre-order best price job of €13 for the CD and €25 for the DLP.. Best price job just on pre-orders… Form an orderly queue please.. The industry has changed so much even in the four years.. Not many in the 60’s, 70’s or 80’s world would get away with a four and a half year gap.. I hope it does really well.. He has some ridiculous amount of streams anyway I think… So all is okay

Universal also have a TOM PETTY “Best Of Everything : The Definitive Career Spanning Hits Collection 1976-2016”. It’s available as 2CD or 4LP sets spanning 38 tracks in total.. All newly mastered and features 2 brand new tracks.. We are doing a €75 best price pre-order job on the 4LP set which also contains a book.. Man we have our cap out a few times already tonight… As ye know these yachts don’t by themselves… Universal also have new albums by BRYAN ADAMS on Polydor, CD + LP with this, and Mr Sheeran helps out on a track I believe… MARK MORTON debut solo album (guitarist with Lamb Of God) which also features Chester Bennington out as well. His last recording before his terribly untimely death…

MARILLION have a few live CD jobs.. “Brave Live” and “Live In Glasgow”, and lastly a couple of vinyl reissues out through Universal.. They include the original Mary Poppins Soundtrack, and the debut album by KT TUNSTALL “Eye To The Telescope”…

Warner for the 1st of March have a new album by IN FLAMES called “1, The Mask” on Nuclear Blast, which is the bands 13th studio album.. It’s available as a standard CD, digi CD, or a gatefold DLP with a pop-up sleeve…

Warner also have a brand new album by WEEZER… Self titled.. Ah sure if it ain’t broke don’t fix it type of thing.. Thank god most bands do title their records or the record shops would be demented… Bob can you grab U2 “11” and Queen “13” and Zeppelin “Lilac” please… That’ll test us lads if that was the case!!.. So the new Weezer has now been nicknamed “The Black Album” with I presume a red cover just like Welsh Dave is actually Scottish… Raymond, cop on.. The Weezer album is on CD, LP or indies only LP… Opeth also have a live album out through Warner…

This Brexit thing is looming fairly close whichever way the cards may fall… If things don’t fall into a deal.. The shit could hit the fan a little bit with increased cost everywhere.. Not getting a whole lot of info from the record companies about it to be honest… No deal would mean (in my little world… Cos that’s all it is.. Every man and every door in the country has their own tales).. it would mean that records pressed on the continent or in Easter Europe would be charged excise and customs duty and VAT at point of entry to a Sony warhorse in London (as a hypothetical example)… Increases cost… Raymond then buys said records and “imports” them into Ireland he is eligible for these extra costs… Again increases costs… Loads or permutations around it but a no deal is a disaster.. Mostly for the UK but for us here also…
Look lets see where and when the cookie crumbles… Warner are now distributing 13 territories out of France (including Eire) so free movement from Czech Republic to France for records, but can they ferry stuff here then by passing over British seas or airspace?? A lot of is above my pay grade… Watching this space for the 11th hour deal by the British Parliament.. My guess anyway… They deserve no more… And if they crash, they crash… Granted we will suffer but…
Ok.. My in-depth political analysis is over for a few years… (I haven’t a clue how it will pan out).. So back to the tunes…

Proper for the 22nd have the POND record called “Tasmania” on CD or 2LP.. POND are made up of members of TAME IMPALA‘s live band.. Mixed and produced by Kevin Parker, Mr Impala himself, so should be a good listen… Proper have the LUCINDA WILLIAMS reissue of “Happy Woman Blues” on 2LP also..

Republic of Music have some nice LEVELLERS reissues on 2LP… These are the following.. Levellers “Headlights, White Lines, Black Tar Rivers (Midnight Blue Vinyl)”… Levellers “Hello Pig (Cerise Vinyl)…Levellers “Mouth To Mouth (Lime Green Vinyl).
They also have a new album by THE CONGOs as well as a nice reissue of SNOW PATROL’s second album “When It’s All Over, We Still Have To Clean Up”..

Sony for the 1st of March have the new album by TOM WALKER “What A Time To Be Alive” on CD, LP or Indies only LP…

The Orchard for the 1st of March have the new Queensryche album “The Verdict” on CD, Deluxe Box 2CD with bonus disc of live, rarities and acoustic tracks, a bottle opener, patch and fridge magnet.. Rock n’ roll.. As well as the LP version with the CD and a poster…

I’m away galavanting with 6 lifelong friends for the weekend.. I know it’s probably safe to say that I will have the F.E.A.R next week, so be gentle with me..
