“Nine Waves was recorded in the Dublin Mountains at Hellfire Studios, produced by John ‘Spud’ Murphy (whose previous work includes records by black midi, Lankum and caroline). The album features 11 tracks of both traditional and original songs and tunes. Nine Waves follows the duo’s standalone single I’m A Rover, which won them an RTE Radio One Folk Award for Best Traditional Folk Track. Ye Vagabonds were also named Best Folk Group for the second time at the 2021 ceremony, where they hold the record for most awarded artists.

The brotherly harmonies and multi-instrumental abilities of Diarmuid and Brían Mac Gloinn were joined on Nine Waves by Kate Ellis (cello) and Caimin Gilmore (double bass), both members of the Irish contemporary classical group Crash Ensemble, and Ryan Hargadon (Anna Mieke, Rachael Lavelle, Kojaque) on piano and saxophone.

The record also features concertina from Cormac Begley and harmonium from regular touring member of Ye Vagabonds, Alain McFadden.”

Going to hand ye over to the Shane lad now as he runs though the usual down the road announcements in the last week…

Sound, Ray! Well done yourself for putting the RSD party on, lots of work, and it was a great day!
I thought I was being good picking up only a few things from it but ended up with a load as usual! Like a lot of ye!

The releases keep coming though and I’ve another few to mention this week.

Ray mentioned ‘Iowa’ earlier but fans will be delighted to know that SLIPKNOT’s 3rd album, ‘Volume 3: The Subliminal Verses’ is going to be reissued soon too, on purple vinyl! Long overdue, as these, like Iowa, would be priced at upwards of 200 quid online due to their rareness.
Their sound changed a bit on Volume 3. Produced by Rick Rubin. Great album.
Again though, it will be limited…

Secondly, another one of my favourites, PRINCE will be releasing ‘Live from Syracuse 1985’ on two formats. The year after Purple Rain came out so right in his prime. That’s coming on June 3rd.

Then the week after, George Ezra will be releasing his brand new album ‘Goldrush Kid’. He’s a good summery pop songwriter. Here’s ‘Green Green Grass’ from it:
https://youtu.be/LmOWKU37btU

Also that week, DEPECHE MODE will release the next in their 12 inch singles box sets, ‘Exciter‘.

Another few interesting ones coming down the road are a new one from punky band VIAGRA BOYS, a 30th anniversary splatter coloured vinyl of PAVEMENT ‘Slanted and Enchanted’, new LAURA VEIRS (limited numbers), a live BLACK STONE CHERRY one, CHRISTINE MCVIE and YO LA TENGO.

That’s all I think from me this week. Back to you Ray! Cheers!

Thanks Shane!!

Right Integral for the 13th May has new ones by GENTLE SINNERS and KEVIN MORBY.

INTEGRAL THEN FOR THE 20th of MAY have finally the new BEACH HOUSE record “ once twice melody”….the vinyl is more or less sold out ( we were allocated 14 units in total im afraid) but have 2 of the boxset and 1 ‘Silver Edition’ (it’s actually on black vinyl) left to sell until the repress…new FLUME and PORRIDGE RADIO also on the 20th May

Also and more on this one next week as time is agin me ,Rough Trade have the new SOAK record on cd. Lp and indies lp…

Sin e for this week really folks

Oh not great news but we will get there hopefully…the signed fontaines stuff was posted to us 2 weeks ago but is stuck in Customs…hopefully will flush out in the next week.

Thanks for listening as always

Ray, Shane and Adam
