Hejira is a 1976 folk/rock/jazz album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell. The album title is a transliteration of the Arabic word hijra, which means “journey”. The songs on the album were largely written by Mitchell on a trip by car from Maine back toLos Angeles, California, with prominent imagery including highways, small towns and snow.

    Joni Mitchell ‘Hejira’

Mastering Engineer, Chris Bellman remastered ‘Hejira’ for this 2014 vinyl reissue from Warner/Rhino, using the original studio master tapes. The record has never sounded better and exceeds original U.S. first pressings by all accounts. Chris Bellman, who works at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, Ca., has that special engineering touch that is clearly evident on this vinyl reissue. This record is one of the highlights of Joni’s most creative artistic period. It is a superb record from start to finish and this release is absolutely fabulous. I compared it with a mint original Japan first pressing and I prefer this reissue, even though the Japan LP is very good too, on its own terms, considering that Warner/Pioneer in Japan never had access to the original master tapes in 1976.

We are so lucky to have labels like Warner/Rhino in the United States who are fully subscribed to the vinyl format .. for all the right reasons. This record should be in everybody’s collection, it’s a classic. The convenience of being able to buy this locally from Music Zone was a big plus for me, also!
