Hi Everyone,
Hope ye’r all doing alright..
Kind of a bumper release week in the shop this one… Loads out… Take me off my diet of ARCTIC MONKEYS, HEDGE SCHOOLS and MANIC STREET PREACHERS new albums which I like all of.. Apologies to HEDGE SCHOOLS as out IT Department made a slip last week by linking a LOST BROTHERS song to the write up.. Lost Brothers excellent also though so I hope ye enjoyed it.. I’m sure the IT Department will remedy the situation right now with a beautiful song from the older album from Hedge Schools.. Nothing from new album up yet..

It’s 12 months already since the passing of Chris Cornell, hard to believe isn’t it… And again in the past 7 days the music world has lost another to suicide.. Scott Hutchison, a man who wrote some beautiful songs on his day, but was so unwell that he felt his death was the best option.. Isn’t just so so sad.. Always thought he names the band kind of with his illness in mind.. ‘Frightened Rabbit’.. But I read somewhere recently that his mother gave him the name (playfully) because of his chronic shyness as a boy / young fella.. I remember writing a few lines about him back in April 16 when the newest album came out… Painting of a panic attack where he had moved to LA and hated it.. Afraid to go out his front door… Begs the question, here at home and also abroad.. Is there really enough being done by governments to help people with mental illness.. Nearly 3 people a day in Ireland take their own lives.. Mainly young people.. Loads of money poured into other health areas.. Yet not mental health.. You wonder.. More could be done I feel.. RIP Scott, Chris, Chester and Dolores..
Ok so.. On to releases for the 25th if ye have any money left.. PIAS have new albums by KAMAAL WILLIAMS and WOODEN SHIJPS, as well as reissues by ESBJORN SVENSSON TRIO and KRIS KRISTOFFERSON..
Warner for the 25th have the BIFFY CLYRO ‘MTV Unplugged : Live at the Roundhouse London’, on CD, CD/DVD or 2LP/CD/DVD Pack.. The hugely popular series is back with a bang with Biffy..
“Although their live shows are best known for their electrifying and explosive energy, Biffy Clyro have often demonstrated that their songs possess an added poignancy when stripped back to their essence. Now the band can announce details of their first acoustic album, ‘MTV Unplugged: Live At Roundhouse London’ on May 25th.
The set is rich with favourites from the Biffy catalogue. ‘Machines’ is already long established as a highlight of the band’s live shows as Simon Neil performs accompanied by a single acoustic guitar, while the likes of ‘Many of Horror’, ‘Re-arrange’ and ‘Medicine’ are all natural fits for an Unplugged performance. Yet the band also flourish with stripped-back performances of songs that were more aggressive and dramatic in their original form, such as ‘The Captain’, ‘Black Chandelier’ and ‘Bubbles’.
The album also presents some special treats for Biffy fans. A stunning take on the Beach Boys’ classic ‘God Only Knows’ is an undoubted highlight, while a brand new original song is also included in the shape of ‘Different Kind of Love’.”
Warner also have the GRAVE DIGGER LP Reissues (Ltd to 300), the new JENNIFER WARNERS album on BMG, a new LIAM GALLAGHER 7”, PRINCE‘s ‘Nothing Compares To You’ for the first time ever on 7”, SAXON reissues of ‘Crusader, ‘Denim + Leather’, and ‘The Power and the Glory’ as LP Reissues..
Lastly Warner has the new STONE TEMPLE PILOTS LP, JEFF BECK ‘Live from the Hollywood Bowl’ 3LP, and a new Ska / Reggae comp from TROJAN..
Universal for the 25th of May have the return of SNOW PATROL.. 7th Album, Wildness’ out on CD, Deluxe CD and Exclusive Picture Disc LP… Meant to be jam packed with anthemic belters… I did really like an early album or two..
Uni also have the new (3rd) album by CHVRCHES called ‘Love Is Dead’.. CD and indies only transparent vinyl, as well as the new SHAWN MENDES album (self titled), the CD soundtrack to the new STAR WARS movie : Solo by JOHN POWELL, a new 12” single by BJORK as well as two reissues by the BEAUTIFUL SOUTH ‘0898’ and ‘Painting It Red’.
