The Landing of the Arctic Monkeys Spaceship, A Springsteen Box Set Price Drop, and The Price of Music

Hey Everyone,

Hope all is well on this fine summer’s evening…

Ok so a few beauts in the shop now to let ye folks know about and I suppose none more so than the new ARCTIC MONKEYS record “ Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino” and so far so bloody good for me… Nice writer is our Mr .Turner, there’s some really clever lyrics in it again… “Everybody’s on a barge floating down the endless stream of great TV”..

Really looking forward to a proper listen, in the shop your ear or mind isn’t really on the music a lot of the time… But from what I heard i’m certainly going to like it, it’s definitely mellower than even the last record but I really have liked what I heard so far… Few indies only LPs with 16 page deluxe booklet left, and CD.

Another beaut is the new HEDGE SCHOOLS album ‘Magnificent Birds’, CD with us for now, LP to follow very shortly… The last album, “At The End Of The Winding Day” was a superb listen, in my top two records that year… Stunning it is. And the couple of listens so far of the new record “Magnificent Birds” (which has a Magnificent cover by the way) is another beautiful listen… Soft, gentle, sparse, evocative are words that spring to mind.. Loads more listening of this new record to be done over the coming years… And if it’s anything like the last record, it rewards the listener more and more every time its played.. The CD is just 10 euro… I would argue (a little trust here folks) that you won’t spend a better tenner all year… Here’s a taste… Ask for more on the shop floor if you want to hear it..

Music is cheap really isn’t it… I’m not on about the free thing… I’m on about about buying a record for 10 euro up to 30 euro… If you connect with that record, then that music is so cheap… That music gives you so much for your tenner (or more dosh in most cases now to be fair)…  That money really is some of the best money you will ever spend (off course you are going to say that Raymond!… But I believe it)… How many times have you listened to your favourite records?? Do they stir emotions that lots of other “products” would not even scratch the surface of?? Genuine tingles down the back from a lyric or a crescendo or an intro?? It sounds like i’m doing an ad for mastercard or some shower now, but priceless I would argue…? You will take to the grave or to the bunsen burner, those feelings/emotions given to you by music… We are visited (less regularly than before, as it is now) by bereaved people looking for the “funeral” songs….. I doubt if bereaved people visit the DIY shop looking for the supersonic C90 power hose “cos the auld lad loved his power hoses”  and we wanted to spray the earth as they lowered him down or maybe try put out the bunsen burner… Can ye catch my drift in amongst all that?

Move on Raymond or you will be up all night kid… More new ones for today by RY COODER, BLACK PANTHER OST and BEACH HOUSE, as well as reissues by TOM WAITS (got a few of the 200), MAX RICHTER, SIMON & GARFUNKEL, MILES DAVIS and HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD.

New release video up again for you all, check it out here!

No later than noon.. and then we’ll do a draw from a hat.. Just the one ticket.. Also the ticket will have to be collected in Dublin so we will put the winner in touch with the person who is giving it away and that can all be arranged, but it will not be in Cork.. Let us know if you want to be put in the hat!!
