Declan O Rourke has a 20th anniversary of what really is a classic Irish record …a stone wall classic full stop, hard to believe it’s 20 years old! “ Since Kyabram” is being reissued on the 7th of Feb. The formats are a deluxe 2LP Gatefold set and a deluxe digipack CD.

The Deluxe reissue includes the original album along with a second disc packed with never-before-heard bonus material.

Here is one of these unreleased gems below…beautiful.

Declan has been a friend of the shop for a good few years now , played in the siopa one day 7 or 8 years ago and bought some records from time to time.

Here is a few words from Declan for our newsletter about the project:

‘Since Kyabram was not only my first complete offering of artistic expression, but the culmination of years applying myself to the learning of a great craft and infusing it with an identity of my own. Getting to make a record was a privilege I took very seriously and when it came time to, I entered the studio with a collection of songs I felt were strong, and distinctly mine.

I revelled in the studio environment and had the best of musicians to help in pursuing the vision I had for each song. We went for the old school vibe of playing together in the same room and capturing performances. It was a magical time and a dream to watch each of the songs landing. But the most unexpected thing for me was to witness something being born that was far beyond anything I had imagined and that had legs to stand up all on its own. Surreal and magical, the experience was something entirely new, and very addictive. But it all happened so fast at the 8me. So the re-release, in celebration of its anniversary (along with all the extra surprises found hidden among the master tapes and my own archives recently), has been a great chance to go back and absorb Kyabram at a different pace. It sounds as fresh as ever to me, but this 8me around I had the wonderful sense of just being a passenger, and of how lucky I am to have been a part of it all.”

And we have a newsletter special also folks….Declan has signed 20 copies of the deluxe LP ( its a beautiful package ) and 10 copies of the deluxe cds for our customers….not online, newsletter only….so if you want a signed LP or signed CD….shout back here to us…thanks for those Declan.

So releases for the 7th of feb then folks include…

I think the boy Adam has a few words to say also….off you go kid…

‘Hi all! So our band The Cutouts are excited to announce that our debut E.P is being released on the 7th of February. It’s 5 tracks. 3 done at home & 2 with Shannon up in Studio 23 (Heres the insta in you want to check the place out: https://www.instagram.com/studio23cork/) The idea behind it was to put together tracks we’ve done that won’t make the album to help fund it. Songs we’ve had lying around but worked too hard on/like too much not to release.

We’re calling it “Scraps” and it’s been a labour of love over the last few months. In the 5 tracks is “Dry Your Eyes” which will be included on the album but done a bit differently, a Bob Dylan cover of “It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry” and a country song that my friend Erin Halpin sings on with me. Erin also did the artwork for it, using reclaimed materials from The Lough,  which she’ll have on display the Friday of release in the shop! She’s an extremely talented artist and an equally good singer and I’m proud to have it displayed. Heres her insta if you’d like to give her a follow: https://www.instagram.com/erinhalpinart/

Scraps will be available to download on Bandcamp for free because we wanted everyone to hear it. As I said before, the hope is to raise some funds to make an album that’s ready to go so we ask if you like what you hear and want to hear more that you consider donating. Every cent goes towards the album.

So heres a link to our Bandcamp page: https://thecutouts.bandcamp.com/ And heres our Insta: https://www.instagram.com/thecutoutsband_/. Bandcamp is a bit bare looking. I only set it up last night (Flakey out!) but it’ll look the part by release day!! I know some of you don’t use Bandcamp too so if you want to pop us an email I’ll put ye on a list and send it over with the artwork on the 7th. If ye’d like to donate we can sort that too. Anyways, thanks for listening and thanks to Ray, Shane, Mia and everyone who supported along the way. I’ll leave ye with a snap of the artwork:

Going to hand ye over to Shane now as he goes through the ones down the road:

Hey all, hope yere well.
Cheers, Ray! I watched the Frank and Walters doc on RTE player last weekend. Very good.
Noelle kept saying ‘I love Cork!’ as we watched it!

I’d definitely recommend Adam’s music with the band. High quality stuff. Bits of the Frames, Whipping Boy and Mogwai in there I think.

First one down the line for me to mention is a new RUSH box set, ’50’. Does what it says on the tin, a compilation of their stuff from the past 50 years but also includes some unreleased material and a hardcover book. Out March 21st.
There’s a 4 CD box set version as well as a 7 LP vinyl version. They’re great, pricing seems a bit mad on it though.

Next one to mention, the new album from Nigerian guitarist, MDOU MOCTAR – Tears of Injustice. This is coming out on February 28th. I like his sound. The album is an acoustic re-working of his debut album. Here’s a new track from it: https://youtu.be/tMUEnIBaCFU?si=_ZJWM-hB0l5BUg9b
It’ll be released on CD, black vinyl and indies blue vinyl.

And the soundtrack to the new BOB DYLAN biopic, ‘A Complete Unknown’ preformed by Timothee Chalamet is coming out on CD and red vinyl on February 28th also.
Went to see it last week, very enjoyable. What I really liked was that Timothee sang and played everything for real.
Some of it is a bit dramatic but sure that’s to be expected I suppose.

Another film star, LADY GA GA has a brand new album coming out on March 7th, called ‘Mayhem‘.
I really liked the new Joker movie she was in.

Here’s everything else coming down the road:

Sin about sin from me, this week. Keep an eye out over the next few days though, we have a big announcement.

Thanks, Shane.

Thanks as always for listening,
Ray, Shane, Young Adam and Mia
