New Eels & Black Country, New Road, Silverbacks Return, and The Passing of an Irish Legend.

Hi Everyone,

Hope all is well enough.. We are in holiday mode here at your local LP, CD & Cassette Emporium.. Shane is enjoying a few well earned days off, Bob’s off next week and i’m off the week after.. So with Shane off today, i’m in the siopa or about to leave it soon now.. So Bob is on newsletter duties from home.. Normally the newsletter is a tag team and the two of us work on it on Wednesday.. But Bob is mainly in charge of taking ye’r money this week.. Before I let him to it.. Paddy Moloney from The Chieftain’s passed away in the last few days.. Bit of a tribal leader in many ways, as The Cheiftain’s carried the Irish Traditional flag proudly for so many years.. I remember the Sony rep coming into the Golden Discs shop on 25 Patrick Street circa 94/95 i’d say and having a little pop quiz.. He played a CD and we were to tell who t’was… It ended up being Gordon Sumner ‘as gaeilge’ with the bould Chieftains.. Always finding new ways.. Respected the globe over.. R.I.P Paddy..

I’ll hand ye to the Bob man for now so..

Last but definitely not least from Warner for the 29th is the release of the brand new WAR ON DRUGS album ‘I Don’t Live Here Anymore’, one we are very excited for in the siopa. The last couple of records have been top class. It is coming on CD, standard vinyl, Indies Exclusive Blue vinyl or as a really limited red vinyl we are lucky to be getting a few copies of. We also have a pair of tickets up for grabs for anyone who pre-orders the album for the band’s show in the 3Arena in Dublin in April 2022. Here is the single ‘Living Proof’.. Lovely song. Great band.

On to Universal for October 29th. Well first we need to mention a Uni release for November 6th. ABBA’s ‘Voyage’ lands in with us on Nov 6th, the band’s 9th studio album and first album in 40 years. The vinyl pressing, both the standard and exclusive blue vinyl are both very limited so we need to have numbers in for orders this week (a week earlier, hence plugging it with Oct 29th stock). So if interested give us a nudge or up on the website! Other formats for ABBA include CDCassette or Deluxe Eco Box CD..

Onto releases from Universal for October 29th. Uni’s biggest release is the R.E.M reissue of ‘New Adventures in Hi-Fi’, for the 25th Anniversary of the album. This release is coming as a 2LP2CD/BluRay set or as a 2CD. Uni also have a brand new album from TORI AMOS entitled ‘Ocean to Ocean’, her first since 2017’s ‘Native Invader’. This one is coming on CD or as a 2LP Vinyl.

Universal have the release of NAT KING COLE’s ‘A SENTIMENTAL CHRISTMAS WITH NAT KING COLE AND FRIENDS: COLE CLASSICS REIMAGINED’, which sees reworked classic tracks with duets from artists such as John Legend, Calum Scott, Johnny Mathis and more. Final bits from Universal include a nice Island Records compilation LP entitled ‘The Vinyl Series Volume 3’, featuring a nice collection of folk / acoustic based material in which Island Records was founded upon. UMC also for the 29th have a vinyl reissue of BILLY PRESTON’s ‘Encouraging Words’ from 1970 on limited vinyl release.

Sony for October 29th have a HANS ZIMMER live album ‘World of Hans Zimmer – A Symphonic Celebration’, on 2CD/BluRay or BluRay. There are vinyl reissues of WHITNEY HOUSTON’s ‘Greatest Hits’ and DAVE GAHAN’s ‘Paper Monsters’

The Orchard for the 29th of October have the release of the new BILLY BRAGG album ‘The Million Things That Never Happened’ on CD only for now, Vinyl formats pushed back to December 10th now. Rubyworks via The Orchard also have a 2CD/DVD reissue of RODRIGO Y GABRIELA’s ‘FOC / RE-FOC’ as a Hardback Book Set. This was originally released via mail order only and sold out gigs, and is the duos first collection of songs originally from 2002.

Proper for October 29th have a reissue of WORLD PARTY’s second album ‘Goodbye Jumbo’ on vinyl, and also two Porcupine Tree reissues, ‘Signify’ and ‘Stupid Dream’, both 2LP reissues on 140Gram Vinyl with a Gatefold Sleeve.

Right so, time for some down the line announcements.
Kicking us off on this front this week is the announcement of the second studio album from BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD, entitled ‘Ants From Up Here’. The debut is a firm shop favourite over the last 12 months, a cracking listen start to finish, so we’re looking forward to this landing in February. A good few formats on this one, and all the vinyl are allocated folks, so fastest fingers first, especially the vinyl formats. The two most limited formats are lovely. There is a 2LP Blue Marbled SIGNED Exclusive vinyl pressing, we are getting very very little of these so safest bet is to buy from site. An email could be missed and not seen until later tonight / early tomorrow and could be sold out by the time we see it. So if interested site is safest bet. There is also a lovely 4LP Vinyl Set with a bonus live album which the stock is tight on, so again site is safest best. The other formats include CDDeluxe 2CD with live CD bonus, standard 2LP Vinyl and the Indies Exclusive Blue Vinyl.

Dublin’s SILVERBACKS are back in January 2022 with their second studio output ‘Archive Material’, coming on The Orchard via Full Time Hobby on CD or Limited Blue Vinyl. Their first album ‘Fad’ was a great listen. Fine punk, alternative rock from our little island. Check out the new album titled lead single here :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMSsnDWcJIQ

We will have a lovely MOGWAI ‘EPX3’ coloured vinyl 3LP set due in to us for release in late November up on the site now. It’s a vinyl reissue of their 3 EPs from the 1990s, reissued on vinyl for the first time. We have been given allocations again here, so when they’re gone they’re gone. Fastest fingers first is the safest again.

There is a 9LP Vinyl Box Set release from BILLY JOEL, ‘The Vinyl Collection Vol.1’. It contains all of Joel’s albums from the 1970s, including Cold Spring Harbor, Piano Man, Streetlife Serenade, Turnstiles, The Stranger, 52nd Street, and also Songs in the Attic, a live release from 1981. This is coming via Sony on November 5th.

Another nice announcement for early 2022 (which is shaping up to be strong on the release front) is the 14th studio album release from EELS. The album entitled ‘Extreme Witchcraft’ is out January 28th on the bands own E-Works label with PIAS. The album is produced with John Parish, marking the first time he has worked with Eels since 2001’s classic ‘Souljacker’ LP. It is coming on CD or as a Opaque Transparent Yellow Vinyl pressing. Again allocations given on the vinyl of this, when it’s gone it’s gone.

Right so, Integral for November 5th up next to finish off for today, and a few nice bits out. Integral’s big release for the week (and arguably the biggest overall) comes with the release of RADIOHEAD’s ‘KID A MNESIA’ via XL Recordings. It features the two classic albums ‘Kid A’ and ‘Amnesia’, as well as a new bonus material album ‘Kid Amnesiae’, featuring unearthed material from the recording sessions of both albums. The red 3LP format is fully sold out i’m afraid, but we do have the 3CD and standard black 3LP Vinyl left.

Integral also have a new A CERTAIN RATIO new remix 2LP on limited sparkle vinyl, with a bonus 12′‘ coming via Mute for November 5th. INVADA Records have the next in the series of CLINT MANSELL soundtrack releases, this time up with ‘In The Earth (Original Music)’ on vinyl, the film came out early 2021. There is a splatter coloured vinyl reissue of FELA KUTI’s ‘London Scene’ LP. PIAS have a new release from JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN, TONY ALLEN & DAVE OKUMU entitled ‘The Solution Is Restless’. The legendary Tony Allen was Fela Kuti’s drummer in the 70’s, and recorded this album shortly before passing away in 2020. It also features Damon Albarn on a track, who introduced Joan to Allen in 2019. Check out Take Me To Your Leader below, really enjoying this track
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgJDMvqRQAg

MR. BUNGLE have a live stream album release from October 2020, ‘The Night They Came Home’ on Indies Orange Vinyl. ROSS FROM FRIENDS has a new studio album ‘Tread’ out via Brainfeeder on CD or Indies LP. ‘Valentine’ the sophomore album from SNAIL MAIL lands on November 5th via Matador on CD or Indies Gold Vinyl, and finally Integral also have a host of STEVE EARLE coloured reissues out also on Nov 5th.

That’s it for this week folks,
Thanks as always!
Bobby, Shane & The Boss-Man!

Anyone know someone hand who fixes hi-fi?? A sound head now like.. Local enough be better..

Last one, Shane here has 2 tickets for JAMES in the 3Arena in dec and he can’t go so face value €100 for the 2 if anyone is interested.. Sin sin.. Well i’d like to wish a happy birthday to Tommy T.C as allegedly he likes a lot of attention.. It’s like the Larry Gogan show today..

Anyway, The Orchard for the 15th of October have the second studio album by DAVID KEENAN ‘What Then?’ on CD and LP via Rubyworks… Here is ‘Philomena’ from the new record.. Very interesting artist..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_uLRNkIT7g

Nevermind me for now, i’m going to hand ye over to the real Boss who has some lovely announcements made over the last week to help the easing opening of da aul wallets..

Hey folks,
Hope you are all keeping safe and well.
Kicking us off this week is a big 30th Anniversary announcement. Last week saw the anniversary of NIRVANA’s stone-cold classic ‘Nevermind’, which is getting reissued on a nice few formats. There is a 2CD (including album remastered and a bonus live CD), a Vinyl & Bonus 7” reissue, a deluxe 5CD/BluRay set which has the album remastered, 4 full live concerts and the BluRay footage of the remastered Amsterdam gig. All these formats are due out in November, and there finally is a savage 8LP super deluxe boxset which also features the remastered album and 4 complete live shows, but this one isn’t due out now until 2022.

Busy week this week, as also just announced to us today is the release of the next in the series of DAVID BOWIE box sets. ‘Brilliant Adventure (1992-2001)’ is due for release on November 26th, the fifth release in the Bowie career spanning box sets. This set captures a more experimental time for Bowie, and will contain albums Black Tie White Noise, ‘The Buddha Of Suburbia (first time on vinyl in nearly 30 years), ‘1.Outside’, ‘Earthling’, ‘hours’, as well as the expanded live album from BBC Radio Theatre, London 2000, the non-album / alternative version / b-sides compilation ‘Re:Call 5’, and legendary unreleased 2001 album ‘TOY’. As normal, this is coming as a 11CD Box Set, or as a 18LP Vinyl Box.

Following from this but staying with Bowie releases. Parlophone are also releases a standalone, expanded version of ‘TOY: Box’ in January 2022. This expanded edition will feature the unreleased album, bonus alternative versions and alternative mixes, proposed B-Sides, and an ‘Unplugged & Somewhat Slightly Electric’ mixes of thirteen TOY tracks. This set will be released as a 3CD or a 6 X 10” Vinyl Box Set.

Sony has the release of BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND’s ‘Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts’, coming as a 2LP Vinyl, CD/DVD or CD/BluRay on November 19th. The two classic performances have been compiled into a 90-minute show which was recorded as the Boss was recording ‘The River’, with the footage being edited from the original 16mm concert film. A rarely filmed era for Bruce, meant to be a cracker of a gig.

Last couple from mise for today, IDLES have announced a brand new studio album ‘Crawler’ due for release also in November. This is coming as a CDEco Mix Vinyl (all unique pressings varying in colour from one copy to the next), and a deluxe, DLP 45RPM format of the vinyl. First timer on 180gm vinyl for this one, and unfortunately we are only getting a handful of copies so it’ll be fastest fingers first here folks, sorry. The world seems (well here in our little corner anyway) to be getting back to normal and with that the siopa is getting back to normal also.. This year we were closed from Jan 1 to May 17 and after that we had 10 mad weeks of biz (yacht brochures out and all) but really is back and no bad thing in some ways… Put some manners on us!! The industry for shops like ourselves have loads of challenges and always will.. Recent ones are deliveries, Brexit, pricing, stock levels and direct to consumer stuff where our suppliers sell the ‘best / most limited’ version from their own sits and the sites they own.. (A lot of big online music retail sites are actually owned by the record companies that supply us).. Don’t know a whole pile of industries where your suppliers also compete with you.. Strange industry in that regard.. The record companies are aware though what record shops have and they do.. They nurture a sense of community in an area of link minded people which makes record shops the length and breadth of the country special places.. Our customers want to support us, support the community but it’s tricky for them when they really want the ‘Blue’ Gallagher or the ‘Red’ Kylie.. It is what it is folks and we completely understand it from ye’r point of view.. Maybe not so much from the other side of the fence though.. But it is what it is.. The record companies could close us all down also.. (Would cause a stir that!!).. So all record shops are aware who the boss is also.. Anyways, not sure where I was going with it really.. It is what it is and we all have to play ball with it as best we can.. We win on other lovely indies / offers / tee’s as well, so win some / lose some.. Strange industry in the competition regard though..

Anyway!! Releases from Uni for the 8th of October include a brand new album from SAM FENDER ‘Seventeen Going Under’ on CD, Deluxe CD, Gatefold Black Vinyl, Cassette and an Indies Only Baby Blue Vinyl also, out via Polydor..

Republica / Polydor have the brand new JAMES BLAKE album ‘Friends Break Your Heart’ on CD and LP.. Impulse have a really nice release on 8th Oct with JOHN COLTRANE’s ‘A Love Supreme : Live in Seattle’ as a 1CD or 2LP.. Coltrane performed ‘A Love Supreme’ just twice in public in Paris and in Seattle.. The Seattle recording was never known to exist until very recently.. It was recorded by Coltrane’s friend and noted Seattle musician Joe Brazil.. Billboard calls it ‘a miracle discovery.. of extraordinary historical significance’..

UMC have a reissue also of VIOLENT FEMMES 5th Studio album ‘Why Do Birds Sing?’ on 8th October and it is available to us as a 2CD which includes a complete 1991 live set from Norfolk.. The black vinyl version is out on Oct 8th also and stock is ok with it.. Indies version is not so good on stock.. We are only guaranteed 3 copies with a maybe for 2 more.. So fastest fingers here now for the 3 copies .. Email for the 2 maybes.. Sorry!!

Verve have ELLA FITZGERALD’s ‘Ella Wishes You A Swinging Christmas’ Double LP reissue on their high quality ‘Acoustic Series’ label..

Going to hand you over to Bobby now for the further down the line releases etc!

Radiohead’s ‘Kid A Mnesia’, New Lana Del Rey And Mastodon, And A Signed Mick Flannery & Susan O’Neill Test Pressing Give Away!

Hi Everyone

Hope all is well enough.
I was off the grid for the last while as we had a family bereavement, so I’d like to thank Bob and Shane for having my back once again… They know it would be reciprocated.

Yep Gina lost her dad, (devastating loss), my father in law, my old pal… We used to go for a drink 50 out of 52 Sunday nights a year i’d say if not 52 out of 52! For 15 or 16 years… Hundreds and hundreds of small nights out… Thousands of laughs… I could write a book…. Ahh he is an awful sore loss and will be… Liam was a fierce important person in my life and sher they dont grow on trees but no better man to tell you to face the puck out so face it, it is.

Again the lads have been gentlemen… Thanks.

Right so, apologies for a few bits I may have missed over the last week, i’m back at it now so will do my best to catch up.

I think we will still have to pick winners from a hat for the IRON MAIDEN tee shirt competition.. Not sure if the tees landed yet though Bob.? (They haven’t yet!)

I think that’s it for comps Bob is it or am i forgetting something…? (I think that’s it!)

Right so, time for a few down the line announcements. Plenty of these to come over next couple of weeks folks, under a bit of time pressure today so not too many, but lots being announced!

Only one place to start this week. Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid are back. Of course that is ABBA, with the announcement of their brand new album ‘Voyage’, released worldwide on November 5th, announced alongside a revolutionary concert which will take place in London in 2022 and will be screened worldwide. The brand new studio album will come on CDVinyl and Limited Blue Vinyl. Both the vinyl formats have been given allocations, so when they are gone they are gone.

Next up will be my own most anticipated album of the year, with the announcement of BIFFY CLYRO’s 9th studio album ‘The Myth Of The Happily Ever After’. This follows up last year’s ‘A Celebration Of Endings’ which is still my most listened to album of last year, an absolute cracker. Probably the only upside to your favourite band not being able to tour the last year is that now you get another studio album, only just over 12 months after the previous one! Happy days for the Bob-Man. This new album, which initially was set out as a B-Side record, took it’s own life during the recording with Simon Neil penning a full new album, and with the band swapping their usual couple of month long recording trips to LA with a six week recording session in a farmhouse near their homes in Scotland, the first time the band have recorded an album on home soil. For the release, there is a CD, a Limited Red Vinyl with a Bonus Live CD (recorded in The Barrowlands last year, featuring 2020’s ‘A Celebration Of Endings’ performed in full), and also there will be a limited edition 10” Vinyl release of tracks “Errors in the History of God/Unknown Male 01”. Really looking forward to this one!!

Ray mentioned last week the release of THE BEATLES new formats of ‘Let It Be’, which is coming as a brand new vinyl reissue, deluxe 2CD, a Super Deluxe 4LP + 12” Vinyl Set, or a Super Deluxe 5CD + BluRay Set to go with the documentary from Peter Jackson which is due out later in the year. Here is the information on the 2 Super Deluxe Box Sets :

The Super Deluxe collections also feature 27 previously unreleased session recordings, a four-track ‘Let It Be’ EP, and the never before released 14-track ‘Get Back’ stereo LP mix compiled by engineer Glyn Johns in May 1969.Additionally, the Super Deluxe editions feature a 100 page hard-back book with an introduction by Paul McCartney, extensive notes and track-by-track recording information and many previously unseen photos, personal notes, tape box images and more.

Finally for this week for the down the line announcements, Universal are releasing a new covers album by THE SPECIALS, entitled ‘Protest Songs 1924-2012‘, released on just vinyl. Allocated only a few copies here again folks so when gone they’re gone i’m afraid. There is also a new 50th Anniversary Edition release of DAVID CROSBY’s debut album ‘If I Could Only Remember My Name’, reissued on 1LP Vinyl remastered, or as a 2CD release with a bonus disc of demos and outtakes.

Right, finally for this week so, Integral for October 1st have a new 2 track 7” single release from BEAK> entitled ‘Oh Know’. There is a CD B-Sides / Rarities compilation release from BELLY (no sign of a vinyl for now), a reissue on coloured vinyl with bonus 7” of CAITLIN ROSE’s debut album ‘Own Side Now’. KIEFER’s new EP and new album get released on October 1st, with the EP coming on standard vinyl, and the new album ‘When There’s Love Around’ coming on CD or Indies Only Vinyl. NILS LANDGREN has a new solo album out recorded over the pandemic entitled ‘Nature Boy’, and it’s coming via ACT on CD or Vinyl. Lastly Sony have a reissue on double lp of OZZY OSBOURNES “ no more tears” from 1991.

Speaking of nice things …its like the late late show here tonight ( some would say its more like…its time to play the music, its time to light the lights) we have some things for ye…

Firstly, we will have a nice few Maiden tees to be given away to some of the folk who preorder the new Maiden album or buy it from us in the first week of release…. 3rd to 9th of september inclusive…really limited tees…really limited…they are savage looking to be fair… ….if you want to be in the draw stick in an order with us…i reckon  50/50 chance of getting a Tee….sizes maybe an issue but thats out of my hands and what we get is what we get…sound!

A couple of my own favs next, with the new PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING album “ bright magic” which is an album based on the city Berlin.

Inspired by the Rory McLean book ‘Berlin: Imagine A City’ and named after a

collection of short stories by Alfred Döblin, the record celebrates one of the

greatest cultural capitals of the world, Berlin.  Written and recorded entirely at Hansa Studios in Berlin, the album is split

into three parts – Building A City / Building A Myth / Bright Magic – and Side

B of the album is a homage to Side B of David Bowie’s ‘Low’. Side A of the

record includes the singles ‘People, Let’s Dance’ and ‘Blue Heaven’.

Hansa is world renowned as the studio responsible for classic albums

including ‘Low’ and ‘Heroes’ by David Bowie, ‘The Idiot‘ and ‘Lust For Life’ by

Iggy Pop and Depeche Mode’s third, fourth and fifth albums ‘Construction

Time Again’, ‘Some Great Reward’ and ‘Black Celebration’.

There is a deluxe boxset of the PSB album as well as cd. Lp and indies only lp….got me ticket for them in cypress avenue in jan, only 30 quid.

The last one of note from INTEGRAL for the 24th of sept is the SUFJAN STEVENS/Angelo De Augustine collab album …a beginners mind is their debut album and contains 14 songs loosely based on films….indies lp available here also as CD and std lp….ye knows my thoughts on Sufjan.

Uni for the 17th sept have a limited 4lp set by Genesis ( 80 quid) as well as a 2 cd job…” the last domino” collection type thing , UNI have THE LATHUMS album on cd and indies only lp, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is 50 years old and there is a reissue, there is a new CARLY PEARCE CD, a new EMPLOYED TO SERVE album on Spinefarm, there are a couple of tonepoet bluenote reissues Lee Konitz & Gerry Mulligan as well as WAYNE SHORTERs the  all seeing eye…lastly the SOUND OF MUSIC vinyl reissue and a well priced 28 CD CHOPIN BOXSET.

I would normally hand to Bob…there were announcements but i didnt get to a lot of them….a new DIVINE COMEDY album though…sweet… and the biggie which we did get to is the 50th anniversary edition of LET IT BE by some crowd called THE BEATLES ( its time to play the music, its time to light the lights)

Sin e for me for sure for this week

It aint pretty but heh its here…

Thanks for listening as always

New Stones and Nick Cave Sets, Mick Flannery & Susan O’Neill’s ‘In The Game’ Release, And Our John Blek In-Stores!

Hi everyone,

Hope all is well enough.. Well remind me to not to come to these pages if i’m looking for a kidney… Ticketless.. And then humbled.. Beat out the gate with our Cork cockiness in town… Some outfit Luimneach..  Brought us down to earth fair lively.. We were always up against it but there was a quiet optimism around Cork (isn’t there always!!) but we were well and truly put back in our box.. Class outfit Limerick..

A collaboration album between MICK FLANNERY and Irish newcomer SUSAN O’NEILL (SON), entitled ‘In The Game’..  It’s available on CD and LP via the duo’s own label.. Self released original quality Irish album, I have had the pleasure of the album for the last week or so and it’s a beautiful record… The songs are based upon a couple meeting, falling in love, and then the demis of the relationship and all the hurt and pain that come with it.. The two artists play their parts excellently, it’s really well written (kind of expect no more when Mick’s involved to be fair).. Vocally it is just stunning and there is a lovely tone and texture to the whole album.. The pair go from spitting fire at one another in ‘Are We Free’ to the tenderness of Susan O Neill’s ‘Miss Me When I’m Gone’.. Here is ‘Trouble’ from the album.. More on it next week or maybe later..

Remastered as a 1CDLimited 3CD Digipack ExpandedLimited 180gm 2LP and a really limited and numbered deluxe box set which we have been allocated a number on.. We have 4 box sets left as I write this.. JOHN BLEK released his second single from the new album ‘On Ether & Air’ in the last few days and what an uplifting beauty of a song it is, ‘Cormorant’… The opening verse or two sets up the story and as we leave the chorus a few piano keys and Davy’s drums increases the tempo of the song and we are off.. On that trawler with the main character we are.. Trawling the sea for fish.. All good songs do that.. Take you somewhere else.. This for me is as fine a song as John has created.. Here it is.. Well worth a listen (budget a bit tight on d’video i’d say, well well worth a listen)

Right over to Bobby again now for some announcements.. Thick and fast they are this weather..

Hey folks, hope you are all keeping safe and well.
A serious amount of releases announced in the last week. Santa Season won’t be long coming around it feels. Only managed to get through half i’d say of the announcements so will be a busy few weeks with it! Few biggies there today nonetheless

I suppose there is only one place to start.. THE ROLLING STONES 40th Anniversary reissue of ‘Tattoo You’. Really sad news yesterday of the death of the legend, icon and one of the best drummers to have graced this planet Mr. Charlie Watts. Like everyone, reading just excellent stories of the man since the news broke. One of my favourites, after a few gargles Jagger rang demanding ‘Where is my drummer?’. Watts late at night has a shave, gets fully dressed into a suit, walks to Jagger’s room, proceeds to give him a few punches and shouts ‘Don’t ever call me your drummer, you are MY singer.’ Excellent. Truly excellent. A sad sad day for rock music, and the overall music work. R.I.P Charlie Watts.

With the reissue, there are a host of formats coming, all featuring a new 2021 Remaster of the cracking album. There is a 1CD reissuea 2CD featuring bonus rare material, a standard 1LP Vinyl reissuea Deluxe 2LP reissue featuring bonus rare material. The Super Deluxe formats come as a 4CD / 1LP Picture Disc (CDs here feature the remastered album, rare and bonus material and a live album from Wembley in 1982). There is also a Super Deluxe 5LP Limited Set with the same material.

Some other really nice releases announced in the last week include a 2CD or 2LP Vinyl release of NEIL YOUNG’s ‘Carnegie Hall’ 1970 show, with this show having never been released or heard before. There is a savage NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDs release with ‘B-Sides & Rarities’ being re-released and including a few new formats. The album has now been expanded to ‘Part 1 : 1988 – 2005’ and ‘Part 2 : 2006-2020’. Part 1 is reissued as a 3CD, and the new Part 2 will be released as a 2CDDeluxe 2CD, or standalone 2LP. There is also a lovely ‘Part 1 : 1988 – 2005’ & ‘Part 2 : 2006-2020’ Deluxe 7LP Set. This set will be the first time Part 1 has been pressed on vinyl.

There is a new MOTORHEAD compilation album announced, ‘Everything Louder Forever : The Very Best Of’. This is coming as a 2CD2LP or Deluxe 4LP Fold Out Cover Edition, and is the first best of that will contain Motorhead’s full career. EAGLES have announced that their live album ‘Live From The Forum 76’ will get pressed on vinyl for the first time, and finally on the future releases for this week is the announcement of ED SHEERAN’s brand new studio album ‘=’. This one is coming as a CDVinyl or Indies Exclusive White Vinyl. Quite a bit today, and more  to come for sure over the next few weeks!

Oh apologies folks, there is one more but we are not putting on the site as of now as we are not 100% sure if we will get the stock or not, but it is a nice one so we said we’d mention it. We have asked for 4 copies of a new BREAKING BAD (Music From The Original TV Series) 5 x 10” Coloured Vinyl Record Box Set coming via Music on Vinyl. The set will be 120EUR, and there is only 400 being pressed. Hence we don’t know if we will get them yet! So if you are interested, pop us a mail, and we will note the interest, and if we get lucky and manage to get a few copies we will let you know. We can’t guarantee but will communicate if we run into stock issues and do not get any. Here is a bit of info on the set :

Right so that is it from me this time, back to the boss-man!
Thanks Bob!
The Orchard for the 10th of September have the SPIRITUALIZED reissue of ‘Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space’.. Great album.. We were only allocated 5 copies and were sold before we even had a chance to sell them.. Frustrating from a retailer’s point of view when you could sell 25/30 copies.. If anyone wants to go on the list for the repress let us know sher.. CD available alright.. Nice reissue on vinyl of RYAN SHERIDAN’s ‘The Day You Live Forever’ limited gold vinyl coming via Rubyworks on the 10th.. There is also a brand new STEVE HACKETT album on Inside Out ‘Surrender of Silence’ on CD, 2CD or 2LP/DC version also..

Lastly VAN & ERIC CLAPTON are together for a charity single.. The song is called ‘Mask / No Mask’ and Ian Brown plays harmonica on it… No he doesn’t! And that’s not the name of the song either… The proceeds of the song are going to Van’s charity for out of work musicians and you can’t argue with that no matter what your beliefs are..

Integral for the 10th of September have great new albums by AMYL & THE SNIFFERSCID RIMMATTHEW E. WHITE, SAINT ETIENNEPOKEY LAFARGE and the LOW new one of course..

Integral for the 17th of Sept have a reissue of AVEY TARE debut ‘Down There’ and a new MILE HIGH CLUB  album also..

Sin é for this week really folks,
Thanks for listening,

Oasis ‘Knebworth 1996’ Release, An Iconic Time For Music, And Villagers One Week Away

Hey everyone
Hope you are all keeping safe and well.
Last week of myself on newsletter duties, Boss-Man due back from his yachting adventure this Friday!
May be another short and sweet newsletter this week. Half typing this up on Tuesday, and half typing it on Wednesday. Getting the second jab done on Wednesday morning (happy days!) and heading to see Mr. John Blek in the fine establishment that is Coughlan’s at 6:30PM after it. (First time attending a gig since February 2020, which also happened to be Mr. John Blek). May just have to leave all the giving out to the boss-man for next week.

Right we’ll head straight into it. Releases for this Friday the 13th of August up first. We will have new releases by THE KILLERSSHERYL CROW, JUNGLE, and the new MODERN LOVE Bowie Covers release.. There are reissues by PEARL JAM, NINA SIMONESUEDETRAVIS, DAN FOGELBERGCORINNE BAILEY RAETHE WEATHER STATION, DAVE BRUBECKTELEVISION PERSONALITIESHOWLIN WOLF, and JOAN SHELLEY. A quiet enough week, it seems that most of August has been quiet enough on the release front.

Right so onto release for August 20th. The new releases for the week include the new album ‘Fever Dreams’ by VILLAGERS on CDVinylIrish Exclusive Vinyl or Indies LP. There are also new releases from LORDE (we have a few copies more of the Indies Exclusive LP. If we have you down for the standard and would like to upgrade to the Indies, let us know and we will sort), ORLA GARTLANDCHRISSIE HYNDEJAKE BUGGMARTIN GOREMARTHA WAINWRIGHTJAMES MCMURTRYSEPULTURAALABAMA 3, and the new FEAR FACTORY album gets the vinyl treatment for the first time. There are reissues from JOHN COLTRANE, ERIC CLAPTONROYKSOPPTHE KNIFEOUTKASTGRANT GREEN, and KENNY BURRELL. On the CD front there are releases from STURGILL SIMPSON and DAVE.

Moving on to releases for August 27th, and definitely the busiest release day of the month. We’ll start with Warner. The biggest from Warner for the 27th is the reissue of the excellent ‘In It For The Money’ by SUPERGRASS from back in 1997 (a great time for music, more on that later). This one is coming as a deluxe 3CD or as a Indies Only Turquoise Vinyl with a bonus 12”.

WEA also have the new TEN YEARS AFTER 1967-1974 10CD Boxset which was originally due out in July for the 27th. MARIANNE FAITHFULL and MUDDY WATERS are the next releases in ‘The Montreux Years’ Series with Vinyl and CD releases for both. There is a silver vinyl pressing of PANIC! AT THE DISCO’s ‘A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out’ on the Fueled By Ramen label for release on the 27th through WEA, as is MAISIE PETERS debut release, which is coming on CD or Limited White Vinyl. Finally Warner have the CD reissue of SISTERS OF MERCY’s ‘BBC Sessions 1982-1984’, which was released on vinyl for RSD this year.

Next up is Universal who also have a good few nice releases. First up is the new CHRVCHES album ‘Screen Violence’. Really like this Scottish groups last few outings. Great pop music and always enjoyed the happy synth sound mixed with sometimes quite dark lyrics, always a contradiction I like a lot in music. Latest single ‘How Not To Drown’ features Robert Smith of The Cure. Available on CDVinyl or Indies Red Vinyl.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U_LhzgwJ4U

Right, busy one August 27th to be fair!

Onto a few down the line bits announced in the last week. It’s not been too busy but a few good’uns!

We’ll start with the biggy. A 250,000 people biggy. The biggest gig in the UK up until that point (not sure would there be many bigger since either). 2 shows, quarter of a million people over two nights. Apparently there was enough demand to sell out 7 nights. I am of course talking about the legendary OASIS ‘Knebworth 1996’ gigs, getting their first ever official release for the 25th Anniversary on November 19th, to go with the release of the brand new documentary on the gigs which is in cinemas in September. As mentioned earlier, what a time for music. Support from the day includes The Manics, The Prodigy, The Charlatans, Ocean Colour Scene, The Chemical Brothers and more. Wouldn’t get a line up like that today! And the headliners. A band, on their second album, 3 years into their career, having become that huge. Will it ever happen again on that scale? My guess, with t’internet and how accessible music has become is that it will be very very difficult for a band to ever do it that quickly, and get that big again. But an iconic moment. So get on with the release Bob! There are a few formats, there is a BluRaya 3DVD (both of these formats include both the Oasis gigs and the documentary), a 2CD of the gigsa deluxe 2CD / DVD (includes the documentary), and a 3LP Vinyl Record pressing. Looking forward to hearing this a lot, and seeing the documentary. A legendary gig. Here is the trailer for the documentary :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPVyla5Jz9M

Next up, one not too far down the line (and CD is out already). Now up on the site for vinyl release for August 20th is the new JOHN FRANCIS FLYNN album ‘I Would Not Live Always’, out via Proper / River Lea records. Great Irish folk music here from the debut album Dublin singer. John is a member of celebrated traditional group Skipper’s Alley and is joined here by bandmate Ultan O’Brien for the album. You can check out a live version of track ‘Lovely Joan’ below :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tg3SdXTr9Vo

Final couple for down the line releases include a lovely 6CD or 11LP box set from MARK KNOPFLER ‘Studio Albums 1’, which has the first 5 solo album from the Dire Straits front-man and a B-Sides compilation for the same era. There is also the brand new, 10th studio outting from BILLY BRAGG, entitled ‘The Million Things That Never Happened’ due out in November on CDVinyl or Indies Exclusive Transparent Green & Blue VinylJAMES BLAKE returns with a brand new album ‘Friends That Break Your Heart’ out via Uni on CD or Vinyl on September 10th. There is also the announcement of a special Limited Edition CD version of the new COLDPLAY album ‘Music Of The Spheres’, to go with the exclusive splatter vinyl format and standard CD out October 15th.

Thanks as always for listening, hope everyone has a good week.
Oh one last thing. Just got a call from the Boss-Man. Didn’t want to talk about the shop at all, only wanted to talk tickets! He is asking if there is anyone out there who would happen to have access to a ticket (or two!) to the All Ireland Final, if there was any chance at all you could pop him and email at shop@musiczone.ie it would be absolutely magic. No harm in asking, no shop talk until Friday he says though!
Thanks everyone,

Love Record Stores 2021 Lists Announced, New Primal Scream & Black Sabbath Box!

Hi everyone,
Hope you are all keeping safe and well this week.
Bobby here this week, boss-man is off on a well earned break, so myself and Shane will be holding the fort for the next week and a bit.

We’ll start today with a bit of house keeping before flying through the releases for the next few weeks (may be flying these next two weeks to fit everything in). First up we would like to say a massive thank you to NIAMH REGAN for her truly special in-store Friday 30th of July, and to all who came to support. It was lovely to have live music back in the siopa again, really enjoyed it. Looking forward to seeing Niamh back in Cork for her show in Coughlan’s in November!

Some big news breaking this week with the announcement that LOVE RECORD STORES (LRS I will refer it to as from here on) is going ahead again this year. Again, releases will be very limited, and like RSD we can not hold or put away any stock. It will be sold on Saturday September 4th in-store from 9AM first come first served, and all remaining stock will be online from 6PM. (More info here in the coming weeks). So there is three companies involved this year, Integral, Cargo and Republic of Music. I will attach a full list of releases below from all three companies, but I only have pricing for Integral as we speak. Most of the releases are down for September 4th, but a few Integral releases are marked for later release. All the orders will still go up in the next week.

With Ray being away this week and the orders needing to go up, we will not be taking wish lists. We hope to order in enough stock to cover the titles, but there will be cuts and disappointments, with stock being so limited. We will do our best to cover everything people may be interested in, and will communicate any problems and cuts as we know more. So here is the list for the full LRS 2021 release :

Villagers ‘Fever Dreams’ Is Nearly Here, Our Niamh Regan In-Store On Friday 2

Hi everyone,
Hope all is well folks.. This is my last newsletter for a few weeks.. I have a little bit of time off.. So my last day in the shop is this Saturday the 31st of July.. We are open Sunday the 1st of August 11-4 as usual, but closed on the Bank Holiday Monday.. I’m working from home doing the orders that day but i’m off then from Tuesday the 2nd of August until Friday the 13th of August… So really looking forward to the time off… It’s been 12 months since I took some time and although I love what I do, I really feel I need a break from it… Bobby and Shane will take the reigns.. Thanks lads!!! Get them on email at shop@musiczone.ie or on the phone at 021-4967119.. They will cover all comms when i’m gone including the newsletter.. Communication is a busy part of our world and something we have to stay on top of every few hours.. A lot of it can be fruitless but we have to stay with it.. Cause it’s important to hopefully bring someone back a second time which may bare fruit… There are circa 200 communications on email a day… Glorified secretaries we are!! But crucial.. No emails no business.. So Bob will do newsletters for the next 2 weeks and may even turn into a ‘Grumpy Ray’ for that 10 days or so!!

Just about our email… shop@musiczone.ie is a good one to use, or raymusiczone@gmail.com but not the old musiczone@eircom.net… That one is a gone.. Won’t get to us with eircom.net…

Right so few other bits of house keeping stuff.. We still have a handful of spots left for NIAMH REGAN‘s in-store with us this Friday the 30th at 4PM… We are so looking forward to this here in the shop.. Honoured to welcome Niamh to our humble abode.. ‘Hemet‘ is a super record and Niamh will be singing songs from it here on Friday at 4 and hopefully signing a few copies also.. If you can’t get in and want a signed copy please email and we will sort it.. 5 Spots / Households left for this socially distanced in-store… We would love to see ye.. Here is ‘Save the Day’ from the album
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTxYlV6CRnY

Another fierce interesting release (which I forgot about until now) is a debut release on Skinty Records.. It’s a Trad compilation called ‘Goitse A Thaisce : A Compilation Of Irish Music Volume 1’. The label was founded by Tom Coll (drummer with Fontaines D.C.).. These are a collection of Traditional Irish Songs that mean a lot to Tom.. Tom and his bandmates have always been friendly and kind to the siopa here.. There record is limited to 1000 copies and pressed on 180gm Vinyl.. Here is a few words from Tom on the record. It is out on the 6th of August.. Give us a nod please if you would like a copy..

The idea for this record came from an extended period of time living back in my family home in
the west of Ireland. Here, I found myself in the midst of a vast, mountainous landscape, a place
that vividly recalled my childhood memories of old Irish traditional music. This experience
sparked a need to immerse myself in the tradition once again. Trad was my first musical love
over any other, so it feels very gratifying to put together this compilation.
Every tune on this record holds a special place in my heart. Whether it’s by lifelong heroes such
as The Bothy Band or Planxty, family friends like Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh or Emer Mayock, or by
contemporary artists pushing the boundaries of the tradition like Lisa O’Neill or Ye Vagabonds,
these songs have soundtracked my life thus far.
If this record can introduce just one person to the world of Irish music, then it has served its
purpose. The tradition has so much depth and richness to it, and I urge you to please delve into
it with an open heart. The title of the record roughly translates to “come here my darling,” which
is the sentiment I feel when I hear these tunes. Hopefully they can bring about that same feeling
for you.
Tom Coll – Skinty Records / Fontaines DC

The lads are half mad if not 3/4 i’d say but a have a real rock n’ roll swagger to them, not put on.. A real dirty swagger.. It’s a fine E.P.. Here is ‘Harp’ from the EP.. Great stuff altogether..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AjysjWAUYQ

Cargo for the 13th of August have a couple of JOAN SHELLY Reissues on Coloured Vinyl ‘Electric Ursa’ and ‘Ginko’ via No Quarter… Cargo also have a repress of HOWLIN’ WOLF ‘The Howlin’ Wolf Album’ on the Get on Down Label…

I am going to hand over to Bobby now to run through announcements etc..

Hey folks,
Hope everyone is keeping safe and well.
Not a huge pile from myself this week so will try keep it short and sweet!
Kicking us off this week is a biggy. 50 years since one of our own legends released his first solo record following the break up of Taste. That is of course the excellent self titled album by Cork’s own RORY GALLAGHER. One of my own favourite records, and what I think is one of the best album covers ever. Just pure simple, but effective. There is a few formats for this 50th Anniversary Edition, including a 2CD3LP or Deluxe Limited 4CD/DVD set. Lots of unreleased takes, live material etc with the extras.

We have a game of Fastest Fingers First unfortunately again this week. This time it’s a 5LP Coloured Vinyl Boxset release from the excellent SUFJAN STEVENS. ‘Convocations‘ is the title of the release, which was put out first in May 2021 (first time release on vinyl here). It’s an instrumental album made up of 5 different volumes, recorded during lockdown and it explores the the grief Stevens’ felt following his father’s death. Unfortunately folks we are only allocated one copy of this. So best way if interested is to buy over the website, as once it’s gone it’s gone for good i’m afraid.

Finally from me, two last nice ones for this week. The Orchard are doing a 10th Anniversary (first time on vinyl) pressing of RYAN SHERIDAN’s debut LP ‘The Day You Live Forever’ on gold vinyl. And finally there is a new SAINT ETIENNE record announced for September entitled ‘I’ve Been Trying To Tell You’. This is coming on CDVinyl or Indies Only Clear Vinyl (only 4 copies of the indies allocated to us).

That’s it from mise for this week folks, back to the boss-man!

Thanks Bob!

Right so PIAS / Integral have a biggie / biggie on the 20th of August with the release of VILLAGERS fifth studio album ‘Fever Dreams’ on Domino… Ah great, really looking forward to it.. It’s available on CDStandard Vinyl, and a really limited Irish Only Indie Shop Press on Oxblood Coloured Vinyl into black poly lined inners into a die-cut sleeve with four interchangeable covers, with digital download cards.. Great to see downloads included.. If anyone up the food chain is listening.. Download codes should be a given,, We hear it daily on the shop floor.. Consumers want the codes folks.. Less and less download codes it seems to me.. Charging enough.. Stick the code in the record.. Consumers want the codes.. Is there anybody out there??? Just nod if you can hear me..
Right back to Mr. O’Brien.. 5th Villagers record out on the 20th of August with a really nice Irish Shops Only Vinyl.. Tickets for the Opera House still about maybe.. From what I have heard so far of ‘Fever Dreams’ it’s beautiful.. Here is ‘So Simpatico’ from the album.. Let this wash over you.. Beautiful song..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bguJJOGdAwU

Integral also for the 20th of August have a new JAMES MCMURTRY album on New West ‘The Horses and the Hounds’. There are some really limited reissues by THE KNIFE ‘Deep Cuts’ and ‘Silent Shout’ as well as ROYKSOPP’s class ‘Meoldy A.M’ and lastly via Mute is MARTIN GORE’s ‘The Third Chimpanzee Remixed’ on CD and coloured vinyl..

Sin more or less é for this week folks,
If I don’t see ye later in the week, see ye soon
Thanks for listening,

Video for last week’s releases now up on Youtube at the following link :
https://youtu.be/IGGdhOZ5Mfc

It nearly went home folks but as Mr. Bonucci said it went to Rome… T’was like a night at the opera wasn’t it.. Not the greatest match ever but captivating wasn’t it… England got as good a goal as you would see but got afraid of it.. A night at the open… Exhilerating.. Events around the ground before, during and after the game disgusting though.. Physical and mental.. Disgusting, makes me feel the cup found it’s rightful home… Italy deserved it over the 120 mins anyway…

There is a recent price drop on the deluxe boxset.. Now best price of €130…

I am going to steal a small bit of Bobby’s thunder here if you don’t mind Bob as there are two down the road releases that have me personally really excited.. Both Irish Releases, one a reissue and one a brand new album..

So first the album that is 26 years old and is truly in my opinion one of the greatest Irish albums of all time.. WHIPPING BOY’s ‘Heartworm’ gets a deluxe reissue on the Needle Mythology label via The Orchard.. It is coming as a 2LP pressed on 180gram vinyl gatefold with printed inner sleeves featuring lyrics and new liner notes.. Bonus LP with additional 10 tracks, collection of b-sides and previously unreleased demos… The 2CD comes with the bonus disc also.. Really can’t wait for this, an album that had a huge impact on me as a 21 year old.. played and played it to death and still do.. A truly suburb album in my opinion.. ‘Babies, sex and flagons, shifting women, getting stoned’ ahhh When We Were Young!!! The 16 year olds of today need to be listening to this album.. Anyway enough on it for now.. UPDATE FROM WEDNESDAY 14TH JULY AT 4:53PM.. Disaster here, our order on the vinyl of Whipping Boy has been cut massively. Massively. Ray has just rang me (Bob here) to pop this message in. We are already sold out of the vinyl. We’ll work hard to try to get more over the next weeks and Ray will add a proper update in next week’s newsletter. Sorry all.

Second Irish album due, this one on 10th September is our very own JOHN BLEK’s new record ‘On Ether And Air’ and it’s available on LP or CD and where do I start… It’s stunning.. I’ve had the pleasure of it for a while now and it’s just stunning.. In my opinion the best work John  has done.. The sound is fuller with beautiful strings and piano.. A top notch release.. The tempo, the space the music has, it’s a stunning, beautiful listen… A real step forward in my opinion.. I hope and do believe this record will get the recognition it deserves.. Here is ‘Long Strand’ from the record.. We hope to have John for an in-store on Sat 11th Sept (mark it in the diaries folks!!)..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C90wmdnRCd8&ab_channel=JohnBlek

On Ether & Air is the final part of Blek’s Catharsis Project, a four album exploration into themes

of the sea, the earth, the embers and the air. This new record is an examination of the simultaneous lightness and weight of the atmospheres surrounding us and the innate human longing for unbridled freedom.

This time around Blek enlisted the help of Kris Drever (Lau), Cheyenne Mize (Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Maiden Radio) and pianist Kit Downes as well as regular collaborators Davie Ryan (Atlantic Arc, Notify) and Brian Casey to weave the ethereal scenes and soundscapes in which these songs now live.

Written over a period of 6 weeks and recorded throughout the second half of 2019. Collaboration was key to the creation of this record.

“Chance encounters and some fortunate timing lead to me being able to work with some of my favourite musicians. Getting people with such unique playing styles involved went a long way in defining the sound of On Ether & Air and creating an album of which I am immensely proud.”

The book is most definitely open here also folks.. Website or email..

Universal for the 30th of July have maybe the most anticipated album release of the year by arguably the biggest star in the world.. Interscope have the new BILLIE EILISH record ‘Happier Than Ever’ on CD Digipack, Black 2LP Vinyl, a grey indies only cassette… The album will not be in-stores until 30th of July for security reasons.. Here is ‘Your Power’ from the new record.. The last album was great..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzeWc3zh01g

Uni also have a new CD album from DAVE.. Concord have a brand new album from YOLA ‘Stand For Myself’ on CD and first time purple vinyl press… This one is on Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Records and is produced by Auerbach also.. UMC for 30th of July have the THIN LIZZY ‘Greatest Hits’ on 2LP.. The opening line of the sales notes reads as this.. This opening line is questionable at best… If easily offended please look away now… ‘THIN LIZZY is unquestionably one of the true icons of British Rock’… Okay i’m ducking for cover.. That’s what it said..

UMC also have six BRYAN FERRY vinyl reissues of his first 6 solo albums from 1973-1985.. These are remastered from the original tapes… Ferry is unquestionably one of the true icons of Irish music… Huh.. Huh… A song from Frozen springs to mind Raymond.. Loma Vista for the 30th have a NATHANIEL RATELIFF ‘Live At Redrocks’ 2LP Version..

Right so over to Bobby and apologies for stealing some thunder earlier!! I didn’t forget anything did I?..

Hey folks,
Hope you are all keeping safe and well, and enjoying the sunshine.
Not a huge amount today but a few very nice ones nonetheless.
We’ll kick off with a few more games of fastest fingers first, with a few bits we have been given allocations on.
Starting off, we now have up the brand new album from Dessner / Vernon (National / Bon Iver) supergroup BIG RED MACHINE, the band’s second outing, due out August 27th. ‘How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?’ it’s called, and it’s coming on CDCassette, Standard Black Vinyl and Indies Only Vinyl. BOTH the vinyl pressings are allocated numbers, not just the indies on this one, but we have a few now up for pre-order. Safest is to buy from the site, as Ray mentioned earlier there will be no one on emails for a few hours after this is sent out, and an email could be missed.

The second and last of this week of the fastest fingers first is the brand new studio album by the excellent LOW… ‘HEY WHAT’ is the title of the new album due out September 10th, and it is just the indies vinyl of this which we were allocated a number on.. Also available on CDCassette, and Standard Vinyl..

Other nice bits announced in the last week or so include the next in the JONI MITCHELL Archives Series via Warner. Due in October, we will have the new 5CD ‘Archives Vol 2 : The Reprise Years 1968-1971’, which spans the era around the release of ‘Blue’ and just before, to mark the album’s  50th Anniversary this year.. There will also be a ‘Live From Carnegie Hall 1969’ 3LP vinyl release to coincide with the release of the CD Set. Lovely stuff!

There is a remix album coming of ‘Mordechai’ by KHRUANGBIN on vinyl due in October which is now up on the site. This was my album of the year last year so looking forward to hearing the remixes. If you haven’t heard these guys well worth checking out, class stuff altogether. We will also have a limited run of the excellent 4th, self titled album from THE CHARLATANS, which is repressed on vinyl now for the first time in 20 years. It’ll be out in October and is pressed on Marbled Yellow Vinyl. (Again allocated on this so when it’s gone it’s gone i’m afraid). The ‘ARETHA’ compilation from ARETHA FRANKLIN which was due in to us originally last year has also now been confirmed for release on CDVinyl or Limited 4CD Set for July 30th..

Lastly from mise for this week, and one we can’t wait for in the siopa. MICK FLANNERY & SUSAN O’NEILL are set to release their debut collaboration album ‘In The Game’ in September of this year.  ‘Baby Talk’ the single from last year has been a firm favourite of the shop, a great tune, so looking forward to hearing the 13-track full album a lot! It’ll be with us on Vinyl or CD. Check out the latest single ‘Chain Reaction’ here :

A fair few nice bits out alright this week! We’ll start off with the next in the series of the METALLICA Anniversary reissues and sets. This time up is 1991’s classic ‘The Black Album’, with a fair few formats for the 30th Anniversary of the LP. There will be a CD Remaster, Vinyl 2LP RemasterDeluxe 3CD with bonus content, and the Super Deluxe Set featuring 5LPs, a 10”, 14 CDs, 6 DVDs, a 120-Page Hardcover book and a host of bits of memorabilia. Serious amount of unreleased demo, session and live bits throughout.

As well as this box set to celebrate the anniversary, there is also a new covers album being released entitled ‘Metallica : The Blacklist’. It is being released as a 7LP Vinyl Set or as a 4CD set, and will feature covers of tracks from the classic album by artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Idles, St. Vincent, Biffy Clyro, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Jason Isbell and many more.

Moving on from Metallica! We also now have up on the site for pre-order the upcoming album from Blur / Gorrilaz front man DAMON ALBARN, ‘The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows’. There are a few formats again here, including CDCassetteVinylIndies White Vinyl, and a limited Deluxe Box Set (box set features the White Vinyl and a bonus 7” with extra tracks from the recording session). This is due out November 12th.

Also announced in the last week or so is the brand new album from LORDE. ‘Solar Power’ is the third album output from the New Zealand singer, and it is released as a Music Box Edition (a new format as far as I can see, and an interesting one. 100% biodegradable casing, which contains the Hi-Res Album Download with Bonus Tracks + Access to Exclusive Content, a Fold-Out Poster, and a 32 Page Booklet with a Limited 4 Card Set. No CD, no physical format really, but the download card with extra bits). There is also a standard Vinyl pressing and a limited Indies Vinyl. We were given allocations on the Indies Vinyl, so once they’re gone they’re gone. Fastest Fingers first on this one i’m afraid.

On the CD front, there a 2 upcoming releases from Sabbath bassist GEEZER BUTLER, one being a 1CD ‘Very Best Of’, and also a 4CD set ‘Manipulations of the Mind : The Complete Collection’. This features all 3 of Geezer’s solo albums, with a bonus CD of rare and unreleased material.

Last but no least, we have two savage Irish releases up on the site for this week. First up is the excellent debut EP release from Cork’s own THE LOVE BUZZ, ‘Here Comes The Scum’. We’ve been spinning this a lot in the shop since RSD when the lads dropped it in to us. Really catchy tunes, punky / 90s feel throughout but full of songs with great hooks. Really well record and produced, huge sounding. Well worth keeping an eye on these lads. It’s with us on CD or Limited Coloured Vinyl. Check out single ‘Harp’ here :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AjysjWAUYQ

And finally from mise, another lovely Irish release which is due out July 2nd is ‘Love in These Times’, the debut solo record from Revelino frontman and writer BRENDAN TALLON. I’m really enjoying the lead single ‘American Strings’, so i’m really looking forward to hearing the rest of this release once it lands in with us. Really sounding great!

That’s it from me for this week folks, plenty more again already for next week. Releases starting to ramp up.

RSD Week Is Upon Us! New Saint Sister and Orla Gartland, and a Buena Vista Social Club 25th Anniversary

Hi everyone,
Hope all is well.. Big newsletter this evening.. RSD Newsletter… Where do I start?? Well it’s on this Saturday the 12th of June is as good a place as any to start.. Where Raymond?? Out in the good shuttle musiczone.ie in Deanrock in To(u)her and importantly from 6PM on the aul’ website.. Cén t-am Raymond?? The siopa will open at 8AM Saturday morning but we can only leave 4 or 5 in at a time (as we obviously can’t flood the shop).. (No pun intended there).. We would ask folk to try get in and out in 10/15 minutes as others are waiting outside… Myself, Bob & Shane are on site to help ye get sorted… We will try make it as smooth as possible… So Saturday at 8AM in the shop, and then online from 6PM..

What about the stock Raymond?? Here is the fun part.. Loads landed safe and good I reckon 80%… But delays a plenty.. I’ll try my best here to update but with 500 seasons in one day, Brexit, it is a bit all over the shop.. Here are some titles that are tight on stock to start with.. Amy Winehouse Remixes,, Haim 7”, Arianna Live, Def Leppard Live, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Robert Plant, Status Quo, Tears for Fears, War Child Help EP, Belle & Sebastian, Shame, Mogwai, Freddie Gibbs, Stooges, Toots, Echo and the Bunnymen, Ocean Colour Scene, Prince… (Ash is moved to Drop 2, as is Stones ‘Hot Rocks’ and numerous other small releases..

There are quite a few titles that have not shipped yet (Wednesday!!) that are still supposed to be here for Drop 1 like Amy Winehouse, Mark Lanegan, Rage Against The Machine, Prince, Belly, Elastica, Tune-Yards, Add N To X.. The Reps think / hope they will be here by Saturday..

The Orchard let us down for titles again this year and they don’t know how it happened.. They uploaded our order on the day I sent it to them (30th April) confirmed to me that they received the order but then it disappeared.. The Russians??.. MI5, CIA could all be involved.. Anyway was on it early enough to save some but we will be getting no stock of Tom Tom Club, Richard Hell or The Sword and a few small bits.. Motley Crue gone to July Drop 2…

Plastichead (a big problem pre-Brexit.. worse since) have let us down and every shop in the UK as well from what I can gather, so sorry to say but there will not be RSD releases with us for Elvis – Cafe, Elvis – Mad Prof, Howard Jones 12”, Iggy Pop – Channel Boston… Four nice titles but sorry not going to happen for us and believe me did we try… Painful stuff.. Sorry.. Forewarned is forearmed.. Great craic this isn’t it… That’s a lot of the bad / iffy news.. Plenty of good news… Sorry just got the news that these are now Drop 2 : Beastie Boys, Yusuf, Don Davis & John Martin..

On to the better news!! Done well on the Fontaines release and I think the Wolf Alice new album and RSD are landing sometime later this week..

So I suppose if an album isn’t mentioned in the iffy pages then it should be good… I suppose most folks support the shop for what it is on the day.. A celebration of local record shops (We are one of them)… Rest assured we have done what we can do to try and secure every record wish listed and succeeded in 80 to 90% of cases.. Hope to see Saturday either in person or online… If emailing me over the coming days I will try get you an answer and I apologise if my reply is brief!!

There is also a 5CD set release from ASIA..

Right so releases for the 18th of June include via Universal the new KINGS OF CONVENIENCE album ‘Peace or Love’ on EMI Records.. Excellent songsmiths, unreal harmonies (as good as anyone).. I do have a soft spot for them.. This is their first record in ages.. Here is ‘Rocky Trail’ from the album

MUSIC ZONE – NEW RELEASES JUNE 18TH PLAYLIST

That’s it from me this week folks, back to the boss-man!

Thanks Bob!
Ok so, last up for today is PIAS / Integral stuff for the 25th of June.. Before I go on about that… I have a growing concern some titles are not going to make RSD Drop 1… There have been quite a few moved to Drop 2 in the last week (nothing too major, bits and pieces here and there) but i’m becoming aware of titles since not in our suppliers warehouses from the pressing plant for Drop 1 releases.. That’s tight with really only 7 working days until the Drop.. I’m sure it will be fine but ROM have not shipped 4 titles as they haven’t arrived to them yet, and Plastichead said yesterday ‘Our RSD Stuff has not arrived to us yet!! quote, unquote… Fill you with confidence?? Yep me too!!

Anyway, Integral for the 25th of June have new albums by DANIEL AVERYFAYE WEBSTERHIATUS KAIYOTE, LUCY DACUS’s third album ‘Home Video’ via Matador on CD, LP or Indies LP... There are reissues by THE MELVINS, and 2 nice MY MORNING JACKET reissues on ATO ‘Evil Urges’ and ‘It Still Moves’.. There is the last of the PETER MURPHY reissues and an underground electronic compilation ‘Cold Wave #2’ by the masters themselves SOUL JAZZ Records.. Quite a few above but also three very interesting releases from PIAS / Integral for the 25th of June are by JOHN GRANT, his new album entitled ‘Boy From Michigan’ on CD, DLP and Deluxe 2LP version also.. The record is produced by Cate Le Bon.. Here is the title track.. Visually cracking video..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecBpAwovikg

Another fine release is the new ROSE CITY BAND album on Thrill Jockey ‘Earth Trip’, available on CD, LP and Indies Only LP.. Here is ‘Lonely Places’ from the record.. Rose City Band is the solo project of Ripley Johnson from Wooden Ships and Moon Duo..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZlid1_qb8A

Last but not least for sure on this newsletter is the release from Dublin’s own KOJAQUE on Different Recordings.. The debut album form the hip hop artist entitled ‘Town’s Dead’ and here is the title track from the record.. Social commentary is at the heart of all good hip-hop and it’s here in spades.. Available on CD or LP.. Kojaque is set to play Cypress Avenue down here at the end of November.. Could be a nice one to catch..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15pagtl5C2k

Jusr got word Uni, WEA and Proper RSD releases are on the way.. I’ll study them for any problems but looks good enough fills on first look…
