In biz news… Universal (UMG) has bought indie giant Pias/Integral. Operations are to remain the same (for now anyway). Job losses (unknown for now)… Powerful powerful are UMG in our world. they recently seem to be selling and distributing BMG as well… The Pias/Integral CEO said “I’m selling my shares not my soul”. Companies keep changing hands in our game…

Anyways, small canoe here, keep paddling is the only way.

Gonna hand ye to Young Adam now as he takes ye wherever he wants …knock knock open wide see what’s on the other side…

Hi all, hope alls well! Fingers crossed on Rorys strat. Had a watch off Crowley’s City Hall footage on youtube yesterday and its well worth a watch. It looked like great night! No video this week either on insta. Some weeks I get time and last Saturday was just one of the days I didn’t. Sorry. I hope ye enjoy em though! Anyways, gonna get straight to it this week with the while-aways:

The big one to mention really is Gillian Welch & David Rawlings with their brand new album “Woodland”. Out 15th of November, here’s a bit about it:

“Acony Records is proud to present Woodland, the new album by the preeminent songwriting team Gillian Welch & David Rawlings. Following up their homespun GRAMMY-winning release All The Good Times, this ambitious 10 song album mingles full band tracks with intricate duet performances all tied together with the duo’s signature sound and remarkable lyricism. Woodland was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee at Welch and Rawlings own Woodland Sound Studio (newly rebuilt after the 2020 tornado) and cements the duo’s iconoclastic position at the forefront of acoustic music.”

Next one I’m gonna give a spot to is the brilliant Lucinda Williams with the next instalment of her “Jukebox Series” and its the big one! “Sings The Beatles From Abbey Road is due the 6th of December. Here’s the blurb:

“Lucinda Williams Sings The Beatles From Abbey Road features 12 Beatles songs that include classic hits such as ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ and ‘Something.’ Williams and her band also take on beloved deeper tracks such as ‘I’m So Tired,’ ‘I’ve Got A Feeling,’ and ‘Yer Blues.’  Being raised on the blues in the South, the latter is a song Williams was clearly meant to sing. Recorded at The Beatles’ legendary studio in London, the new collection  serves as Vol. 7 of her celebrated Lu’s Jukebox series and is the first new volume in almost four years.

While many great artists have recorded in the hallowed Abbey Road Studios, as it turns out, Williams is the first major artist to actually record Beatles’ songs there aside from the Fab Four themselves.

As an acclaimed, award-winning singer/songwriter for more than four decades, Williams’ music has been highly influential and covered by a multitude of artists. Williams is also an extraordinary interpreter who, like all great interpreters, has the ability to inhabit a song and make it her own. She does just that throughout this selection of Beatles tracks, as she has done on each Lu’s Jukebox volume.”
