Hi folks

Hope all is well with ye!

Was at Villagers in the opera house last night … .wonderful show and performance, really really enjoyed it. Sher who knows , Conor may grace the shop floor someday yet.

Change of season coming up, newsletter a tad funny this week as nothing much due out on the 20th Dec but will list what we have anyway….id say Shane has a bit to do with announcements etc alright …..i see there’s a couple of Sylvian releases coming in late Jan Shane and Tay Tay for this Friday!

Next week will prob be our last newsletter of the year….

Will send out the polls for albums of the year next week also…some great albums this year I thought myself.

Anyhoo releases for the 13th Dec here…

A regular lad said to me last week that if everyone who used the siopa pointed someone in our direction for the christmas period, it would be a great help…bang on he was….a crucial 3 weeks ahead as ever year…finger pointing was bad manners my mam used say, but get pointing folks!! All manners of record players ( well only good ones really) and other hi fi bits if nieces/nephews/brothers/sisters/sons/daughters showing an interest…vouchers as well of course online or instore….point point point….christ Ter this week really is a “ fuckin Ad”… in his thick cockney accent.

We will be opening for a few hours on the sundays in the lead in to Christmas….ill update further Christmas hours next week but NB open this Sunday 12 noon to 4 pm

OPEN SUNDAY THE 8TH 12 NOON TILL 4PM

We have LEWIS BARFOOT with us on Saturday at 2 pm for our last instore of the year….Lewis is releasing “ home” on vinyl…. I told ye last week the trouble/hassle she had with getting the record out into the world…so really hope its a successful instore for her….Lewis is bringing two other musicians with her so will really give a full sound….so Lewis ( and friends) will perform tracks from the record at 2pm Saturday, sign copies of the album after and have the chats with folks…..again if you cant make it in and want a signed copy Vinyl or CD please email us and we will sort….and again cash great for instore performances please!

Here is the title track from the record

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLGc_IVp6PQ

Right a few releases for ye for 20th Dec and around Christmas…not much!!

Going to hand ye to Shane now as he takes ye down the road etc…

How ye doing, folks? Hope all good. Thanks, Ray.
A good few to mention today. I kinda wish we didn’t have to mention next year until it’s actually next year, but sher what can you do, the nature of it.

First one up is a big one, TAY TAY! (Taylor Swift)
She’s releasing TTPD: The Anthology on 2 CD or 4 LP marbledy vinyl
I feel like this was out already or a lot of it was, but here’s a deluxey version with 4 bonus acoustic tracks and a 12 x 12 inch poster with the vinyl.
A massive year for Taylor it was. This is actually out this Friday.

Just to remind as well, there are 3 limited edition LISA HANNIGAN vinyl reissues coming out this Friday. Good prices.

As Ray mentioned earlier, there are two DAVID SYLVIAN vinyl releases coming out at the end of January.
Both of these have never been on vinyl before! There’s ‘Died in the Wool (Manafon Variations) on 2 LP vinyl and ‘The Good Son vs The Only Daughter (The Blemishes Remixes)’ LP.
Here’s a bit a bout each:

First time on vinyl for ‘Died In The Wool’, the 12 song remix companion to David’s 2009 album, ‘Manafon’, plus the non-album track “When We Return You Won’t Recognise Us”

Features remixes by David Sylvian, Dai Fujikura, Jan Bang & Erik Honoré.

“When We Return You Won’t Recognise Us” was specially commissioned by the 2nd Canary Islands Biennial of Architecture, Art and Landscape 2008-2009.
(was going to link this track but it’s 18 minutes long!)

____

First time on vinyl for ‘The Good Son Vs The Only Daughter (The Blemish Remixes), the 9 song remix companion of David’s 2003 solo album, ‘Blemish’.

Featuring remixes by Burnt Friedman, Sweet Billy Pilgrim, Royoji Ikeda, Readymade FC, Yoshihiro Hanno, Tatsuhiko Asano, Akira Rabelais, Jan Bang & Erik Honoré.

Track Listings

1 The Only Daughter (Remixed by Ryoji Ikeda)
2 Blemish (Remixed by Burnt Friedman)
3 The Heart Knows Better (Remixed by Sweet Billy Pilgrim)
4 A Fire In The Forest (Remixed by Readymade FC)
5 The Good Son (Remixed by Yoshihiro Hanno)

1 Late Night Shopping (Remixed by Burnt Freidman)
2 How Little We Need To Be Happy (Remixed by Tatsuhiko Asano)
3 The Only Daughter (Remixed by Jan Bang and Erik Honoré)
4 Blemish (Remixed by Akira Rabelais)

Here’s a list of other releases coming for early next year:

Those Tribe Called Quest ones would be nice to have. Haven’t seen them around on vinyl in years.

Winding down now for the year.

Here’s Young Adam and the latest video rundown. He said some lad was criticizing the videos… I think they’re great anyway. The Miles Davis cover in this one will give ye a good laugh: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DDASBBaMSrK/?igsh=MWE4NGdhd3BjdTZyaw==

Sound, Ray, back to you. Slán.

Thanks Shane!

Right sin e for this week really folks

Thanks for listening as always

Ray, Shane, young Adam and Mia.

November 27th: BLACK FRIDAY MADNESS! BRICKNASTY EP, special DAFT PUNK reissue, LEWIS BARFOOT in-store, new KENDRICK LAMAR and a MICHAEL HEAD reissue

How d

Hope all is well enough folks.

Releases in the siopa for this Friday the 29th of November will include the below all going well…

The same day is “ black friday”  ( a load of boll**) in general terms a load of boll….another corporate idea to eek more dollars from folks….of course in our shop its brilliant and not at all like that.

Releases for the 29th Nov here please Shane…

BLACK FRIDAY LIST OF STUFF

Just some info re Black Friday….shop will open at the usual time of 10am

If you asked/wish listed  a black friday release , best advice is get into us on the day ( or at very least make contact ) as records go online at 8AM on the Saturday 30th November.

Got  most of what we ordered bar a few small bits i think … .BF is a funny one ( a load of boll…) ..in our industry its like a mini RSD , bespoke releases at the usual prices or more but no bargains, we are offered nothing at special prices, nada…folks come in thinking they may get hifi stuff at half price kind of thing and then think i am Ebenezer when i say we can do very little on price…so i think i  told ye already what it is…a load of…anyways heres the releases for friday the 6th of December…

Next instore ( i’m fully aware of) is the wonderful Lewis Barfoot who launches her vinyl record “ home”…well this has been a labour of complete love to get to this point for Lewis.

I’m going to wind back the clock nearly 12 months , when Lewis dropped into Shane to “ test” her test pressing she had received from Dublin vinyl for the new record … .they both thought the pressing wasn’t great and it went back to Dublin Vinyl.

About 2 months later Lewis was back in with another test pressing, this time i was in the shop, ahhh it wasn’t right, numerous clicks and Lewis felt a much duller sound than what was on the master…i feel a little guilty for saying “if its not right Lewis and your not happy with it , you should tell them. You want it to be right” …little were either of us to know about a month later Dublin vinyl were goneski….and so was Lewis”s 2000 euro deposit on getting her record pressed … .what a balls.

She dug deep to get the record made in a different plant ( never seeing a cent back from liquidators of DV) and its a credit to Lewis.

She will launch the vinyl in the shop with us on Saturday the 7th of Dec at 2 pm…. Playing songs from the album, signing her very precious records and having chats with folks…support of it would be greatly appreciated folks.

Shane was bang on last week about the Steven wilson thing ( more on that in a sec) when he said an artist puts every shred of them into making a record …a recorded artefact…a piece of art, a creation,  so Lewis has been through the mill with this whole experience, be nice if she left the shop on Saturday the 7th with a  smile.

On the Steven Wilson thing…talking about a load of bollocks, this is up there for me…was he chasing the “ pioneer “ thing with it…ah man its anti human….one thing in defence i will say, at least he was straight about doing it…how many may not be straight about it??…Bonos rolling joints in Killiney saying “ Edge man, we are going to release an album a year going forward with this A one thing” …sorry i is only taking the piss, love u2 and its members…Adam was on late late recently and was a top man  i thought.

Anyhoo….get in for Lewis is the moral of the story!!

Releases then for the 13th of Dec folks ( will be ordering these from record companies in the next few days)

Dublin band debut EP….real funky soulful vibe going on, i really like it…here’s a tune

Bricknasty – vinland

Class band…a tune from the show here

Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues [Live on Boston Harbor]

Just received an email about that Steven Wilson release … .there had been a cap of just 3 copies per shop….email says order limit is removed, order what you like…anyways ill let it go folks!!

Going to hand ye over to Shane now as he takes ye down the road as usual

Sound, Ray, thanks. Hey everyone, hope yere well.
Yeah, I hope people push back on the AI stuff, like people did on the itunes/streaming stuff with vinyl.
This clip from Father Ted sums up the situation I think:
https://youtu.be/dwz6vBp8MPw?si=ezmcBB1Ea5DqnfMo

RIP to Jon Kenny too. Sad news. What a legend of Irish comedy he was.
Myself and a friend used to do our own D’unbelievables show for d’ parents when we were small.

First up on the coming soonish list (only a few today) is the brand new album from KENDRICK LAMAR – ‘GNX’. Probably the biggest rapper of the last decade or so.
Here’s a new track from it: https://youtu.be/fuV4yQWdn_4?si=Kqs22XDaueVphFVQ
Like it, funky! Album’s out March 1st next year.

And out on January 24th is a white vinyl reissue of MICHAEL HEAD & THE STRANDS – Magical World of the Strands from 1997. Nice one to get. Michael Head is from the great Liverpool band Shack. He had a great album out last year, ‘Dear Scott’.

Also ag teacht:

Also, some price changes on the new FKA TWIGS record ‘Eusexua’ which is coming out at the end of January.

Here’s the shop instagram page before I go, should be a new Young Adam video soon.
Back to you so Ray.

Thanks Shane

Sin e really for this week folks

Thanks for listening as always!

Ray, Shane, Young Adam and Mia

November 20th: Brand new MURDER CAPITAL album, new DELINES too, KNEECAP soundtrack, more LISA HANNIGAN reissues, and Christmas rants about the industry and AI.

Hi Everyone

Thanks a million to those of ye who came to our instores over the weekend, thank ye thank ye thank ye….without yeh there wouldn’t be instores….thanks to Sarah Hickey and Caoilan on guitar and Mike on double bass, it was a really lovely performance….the double bass made its debut in the shop.

Jerry Fish is some front man, ahh a great character, he had folks clapping and singing throughout his performance … .top top lad  as well, doing it for all the right reasons…his performance was special, there was a lovely vibe in the room for both instores.

Quick thanks to Ger O C as well , who is great to us with his trusted camera and photos , sound man as always Ger.

Right releases in the siopa for this Friday the 22nd of November…

Jumping on Shanes job a little bit here…..Lisa Hannigan has now announced all three studio albums are getting a vinyl reissue….some of these are  ( passenger and see saw) out of print for a good few years….these are all gorgeous albums, and in fairness a very good price in today’s market….beautiful albums for any record collection….the beauty of this tune should give you a chill…here is “ home” from Passenger live

Lisa Hannigan – Home

Then releases for the 29th of Nov which is also Black friday…

Hopefully we will have a good 5 weeks now, its still a crucial time for us.

Its been only so so of late, we were down 10% there in October, and November has not been great either  so far….our regulars of course, our lifeblood, but very few randomers as yet…site so so as well, you have to keep watching it folks!! ( pain in the ring)

Same 5 weeks as last year will be grand now, hopefully!!

I say the same thing every year ( nb nb not aimed at anyone ) but it would be nice to clear out  some of the stuff from our boxes over the next 5 weeks.

Anyways, not at the auld poor mouth shite, simple message is you have to keep minding it, that’s all.

Dont forget we sell decent enough hi fi, if nieces , nephews etc are chasing record players from Santa…point our way would be appreciated!

( Our turntable and speaker stock)

Right main week for this week ( will be ordering these from the record companies in the next few days) is the 6th of Dec and we would hope to stock…

Something I must point ye in the direction of is the recent Robert Smith interview around the album launch time ( brilliant it is, the album, if i didn’t tell ye already) .

Its a long interview, nearly an hour and 45 minutes ….the whole interview is great but i want to pick out one segment about the state of our world and the state of the industry we ( a tiny record shop in a vast industry ) work in….he sums it up, i couldn’t agree more with him…every word, on the money ( ok, maybe the wrong choice of word)….go from 1.02 till 1.09 here ( the rest of it well worth a listen also)

The Cure – Robert Smith Interview – Songs of A Lost World

He is so bang on here…the days of “ the lost world” when an honest job was met with honest money for said job is going if not gone….very quick one, we had a problem with a window and it needed a job… we were under time pressure with it….got a guy, he needed to take out the glass, fix the lock thing on it and pop the glass back in to fix it…something like that anyway, no parts required ) …600 euro he said it would cost…i said how long will it take …about an hour…i said a brain surgeon wouldn’t charge me that… he didnt like that, he got angry, said to me “ do you want it fucking done or not” …i said not for 600 euro no, sorry…he walked to his van to leave , turned back and said seeing as im here im do it for 300 euro ( no parts i repeat) …i grudgingly said fine, you know yourself….he was gone 40 minutes later.

Honest pay for an honest job?? Or the market is dictating the price…dynamic window fixing was the name on his van….oh no it wasn’t!!

Going to hand ye over to Shane now as he takes ye down the road as usual…

Sound, Ray. 600 euro feckin hell.

Hi daoine uaisle! Hope ye’re good. Robert Smith spot on there alright Ray.

A big Irish release announcement first up today from me.
THE MURDER CAPITAL are back with a brand new record. It’s called ‘Blindness‘.
Music Zone (on either side of the counter) are big fans of these lads.
There’ll be CD, black vinyl and limited yellow vinyl of it. And it’s coming out next February.
Going to look for a new song now from them…
https://youtu.be/bJWT1WAepWk?si=CBsjzl_erQ77uGCU
Strong song. Cool guitar solo.
Be class if we could get them for an in-store!!

One I couldn’t mention last week because it wasn’t announced til the Thursday, the soundtrack to the KNEECAP movie is coming out on CD and coloured vinyl. Also the end of February for that.
The movie is good craic, but I was a bit annoyed how it was kinda normalizing class A drugs.
Those are dangerous for young folk.
Sound like Mr Mackey now haha.

And another band who are popular in the siopa, THE DELINES have a brand new album coming out too. Valentine’s Day release. Steely Dave has played with them I think.
It’ll be called ‘Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom’. Here’s a track from it: https://youtu.be/U_4Yf_b40lg?si=u1OgFzUoR5X3q5XU
Limited coloured vinyl available of that.

Here’s the rest of what’s coming out soonish/next year:

The last one is certainly least this time. It’s what he’s calling an ‘AI powered song’.
I nearly got sick when I read it earlier. Ray didn’t like the sound of it either.
V fingers to so many artists out there, for me.
Nick Cave wrote a passionate open letter against it earlier this year I think. And you can understand 1000000% where he is coming from. He went through massive human tragedy in his life in the last decade and he used his music to express his grief, the human condition.
Tapping a few lines into a piece of software to create music/art makes Nick’s and all the other artists who are humans’ suffering, highs, lows etc redundant.
Art is special because it comes from an individual human being’s unique experience through life. Not to mention all the years spent honing techniques and styles.
I’m all for AI in things like medicine where it can be used to trawl through data in the millions and recognise patterns to help us create new treatments etc.
Or it would be great if we had something that would allow us to put products up on the shop website for the newsletter much quicker. Laborious jobs like.
But for art, no way, unless again, it’s for filling out a template or whatever.
I can hear Daniel Ek rubbing his hands. Conveyor belt content.
Anyway, I’m probably just an old man shouting at the cloud, and in a year’s time will have been swept along with it.

On a lighter note, here’s the shop instagram page. Young Adam’s latest vid at the top: https://www.instagram.com/musiczone.ie/?hl=en
Cheers, Ray!

Thanks Shane

Sine really for this week folks

Thanks for listening as always

Ray, Shane, young Adam and Mia

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq9CR-SCEJA

Going to hand ye over to Shane now as he takes ye down the road with announcements extra….

Hi everyone! Thanks Ray. Starting to get towards the time of year when we think about the albums of the year. David Murphy’s album ‘Cuimhne Ghlinn’ has been mentioned.
Jack White’s one too. And Nick Cave. Will have to go back over the ones I enjoyed throughout the year.

Hope all is well with ye.
Lots to get through for me. First up is a lovely vinyl reissue of LISA HANNIGAN – Passenger. Been out of print for a while now. Class album. Here’s a great live version of opening track, ‘Home’, from Baltimore! https://youtu.be/csaHks2gydQ?si=ngb-EIkKI55IKRAM
The record is released on December 6th.

From the other side of the atlantic, ADRIANNE LENKER (Big Thief) is releasing a limited 7 inch single, ‘Once A Bunch/Who Can Say. That’s out soon, Friday week!

Pity about Ireland in the rugby last Friday. They really weren’t at it on the day. Way more mistakes than usual. And the best teams will punish you. Hope this Friday will be better.

A guy I like, SAM FENDER is releasing his third album ‘People Watching‘ on the 21st of February next year. He has a bit of Springsteen about him I think. Strong songs. Even though they get a bit over played on the radio (as usual), they’re not as annoying as other chart songs.
Here’s a new track played live from it, sound isn’t great but worth a watch: https://youtu.be/luqwwnXF08I?si=30blreHBIruI4VPK

And a week after that bdrmm release their new album ‘Mictronic‘. These lot are gathering steam. CD, black vinyl or Coloured indies vinyl of that available.

There are a few more that I could prattle on about but I’m behind a bit and have to drop off presents to my niece later, she’s 1.

Here’s the aul Instagram page. Not sure if Adam got a new video up but there’s definitely a Santa’s sack worth coming soon: https://www.instagram.com/musiczone.ie/?hl=en

If ye got this far, thanks! Slán.

Thanks Shane

I was home latish from work last night and was having a bit of grub in the  kitchen and the 9 o’clock news was on the telly….was on about a double tragedy on a beach in Galway…next thing the reporter mentioned that the man that passed was Johnny Duhan…well my heart sank ( a real thing when you get a land like that)…ahh i was very saddened by the news. A couple of interactions Johnny and i had ( never met) about 10 years ago id say now, when Johnny had a new album out, i touched base with him about getting some copies for the shop….simple arrangement was made, i paid him for 5 copies ( what he asked me for) and he sent them to me…..but with a lovely ( long) note or ( short) letter with the CDs….the letter was dear to me ( he said a couple of lovely things about our simple honest interaction) i had it up on the wall behind the counter in the shop in Douglas Court , but i managed to misplace it during one of the moves ( fairly certain after the fire) ….i was gutted about it, Bobby would tell you, i used be moaning to him about myself and why i didnt keep it safe…would have thought about the letter a few times since and then that tragic news last night. Johnny saw our little thing for what it was, he saw it….its 50/50 with it, a lot of folk ignore us or you sense dont trust us ( thats worse!!), that we are out to win. To help is the goal ( and cover our cost ultimately) not to win…Johnny saw it, he was cool beans about it and wrote a note about it.

When i was a teen and started drinking an auld flagan a little before my time in the bushes and apartment building sites by Wilton shopping centre, we used sing a song or two, i mentioned before here “ dirty old town” the Pogues was one of mine, another was the voyage by Christy Moore…i only found out last night was written by the wonderful and sound man Johnny Duhan…rest in peace Johnny, thoughts with your family…what impact 50/60 words on a page can make sir…thank you.

Have to leave with this tonight…you should watch it, Johnny adds a bit of a slant to his song, gives you a sense of the man….top man id say

The Voyage

Ray, Shane, Young Adam and Mia

Delighted to hear that the Joe Chester album is ag teacht. Ray put me onto his album ‘Jupiter’s Wife’ a few years back. It’s an Irish classic in my opinion.
Will be picking up this, but fingers crossed Joe will put out his other solo albums on vinyl too in future.

Just an update on Noelle, she is ok. Recovering slowly but all is fine. We had to pop out earlier today for a check up, so apologies for the delayed newsletter.

Gutted that orange goblin got back in.

First one to mention today from me, the Delorean is at 88mph, is the MANIC STREET PREACHERS new album ‘Critical Thinking’. Great band. We missed this one last week.

Main week this week is for the 15th of November…

Running out of time today, was a messy one…but a few quick things, the website is kind of crashing after the newsletter for a while ( less than an hour usually) so i know yer all excited with our click bait titles “ robert smith rumored to show up at Cork indie record store listening party” ….but if you log on a little later should be fine….we are trying to sort it without spending too much money.

Couple of nice bits landed in this week to us

PA SHEEHY dropped ( ex walking on cars) in his debut solo album to us over the weekend there….will be on site soon.

Lewis Barfoot dropped in her album on vinyl to us…released Friday.

Local band BOCKETY dropped in there CD to us also in the past week.

Gonna hand ye over to Shane now as he takes ye down the road as usual…

Cheers Ray. Hi guys! Hope ye’re doing well.
Bit of a fleeting one today from me as my wife, Noelle, is in hospital.
Nothing serious and she’s fine but have to collect/drop things up so keeping it short today.

There’s a brand new album coming in January from MOGWAI. John Kelly on Lyric FM played a track from it last night. High quality stuff as usual, if it’s your thing.
It’s called ‘The Bad Fire’. Here’s ‘God Gets You Back’ off it: https://youtu.be/hq30tXF-n5E?si=KCXMm2z3OZrh6K74
CD, black vinyl, indies clear vinyl, cassette and both a vinyl and cd super deluxe box set.

Here’s the other few things that are coming soonish:

The pre-orders are calming a bit now as there’s more focus on the immediate releases.

Here’s the Insta page with Adam’s latest vids: https://www.instagram.com/musiczone.ie/?hl=en

That BOCKETY album is a great blues rock listen by the way!

Back to you so Ray. Slán!

Thanks Shane!

Sin e really for this week folks

Thanks for listening as always

Ray, Shane, young Adam and Mia.

BLACK FRIDAY Record Company Lists with Prices of Each Title

I was pleased to see the U2 release ( which in fairness is an interesting release ) not too bad ( in today’s terms!) at 37 quid

Here is more about it:

“How To Re-Assemble An Atomic Bomb is a collection of 10 songs taken from the original recording sessions for How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, U2’s 2004 critically acclaimed, eight-time Grammy-winning album. Recently discovered in the band’s archive and now released for the first time as a standalone record, this shadow album features new, previously unreleased songs, including “Luckiest Man In The World,” “Happiness” and “Country Mile,” as well as newly remastered songs, including “Picture Of You (X + W),” all collected together for the first time to mark the 20th anniversary of How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. Available on black and red marble color vinyl exclusively for Record Store Day.

The Beatles 7” is analog also folks!

Here are the releases for Nov 1st then…

Main point of the attack of “ the Ad” this week is for releases on the 8th Nov so here’s whats on offer party people

A lad started in EMI around the time Music Zone opened and he is leaving the game this week … .it feels like i have been going back and forth with him forever, kind of sad…end of an era feel to it ( the sands of time huh) …changes in the game all the time…he will be sorely missed by all the record shops around the country, he had our backs.

Over to you so Shane kid…welcome back by the way…thunder mountain a distant memory id say, but still a memory….hope ye had a ball

Hiya Ray, sound! Hi everyone! Ah twas great. You know yourself as you were there with the family in the last couple years. Sorry I have to report that I didn’t get on Thunder Mountain. It closed due to a technical fault as I was going to queue on the last day. Boo! But I went on Indiana Jones twice. And we went on Phantom Manor together twice. The Halloween vibe was great there.
And we met/got a picture with Mando!
We went to Paris city as well for half a day.
Won’t miss some of the crowds, but it’s sad when you have to leave.

Thanks a mill to Adam as well for covering me last week.

First one for me to mention is the vinyl release of Cork musician LEWIS BARFOOT’s album ‘Home’. Out on November 1st.
It has a bit of a story.
Lewis called into the siopa about 6 months ago while I was on. We listened to the test pressing of ‘Home’ which she was getting done with Dublin Vinyl. She wasn’t fully happy with the sound so left the shop to get it tweaked. And then, of course, Dublin Vinyl had to close.
So there have been a few bumps in the road for Lewis in getting this record released.
It’s a lovely listen. We have it on CD and cassette as well.
Here’s the last track ‘Ancestors’

And here’s a bit about it:
“Lewis Barfoot’s musical journey takes a deeply personal turn with HOME as she explores her Irish heritage and delves into the haunting narratives of her Cork-born female relatives. The album sheds light on a dark past of institutional incarceration, delicately transformed by Lewis into a collection of beautiful songs. Through her evocative lyrics, and the exquisite purity of her voice “HOME” holds the power to heal the wounds of the past and inspire future generations to live fearlessly.

In the creation of HOME, Lewis collaborated with Michael Riordan (Double Bass), Davie Ryan (Drums), Gabriel Buffa (Clarinets), Elisabeth Flett (Violin), Lea Miklódy (Cello)  and Kerry Andrew (backing vocals). Recorded at Wavefield Studios and SoundSound Studios in Cork. Mixed by Giles Barrett (Lightship 95) and mastered by Sam Proctor (Lismore Mastering).”

Another one worth a mention is FLORENCE + The Machine & Jules Buckley Orchestra – Symphony of Lungs: Live BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
An orchestral version of the album ‘Lungs’.
Here’s a little promo video for that, with Florence being interviewed: https://youtu.be/Pekj9n4zKww?si=MT62zq2QkQXDfpud
It’s not released til next year though, so we can calm down.

Great to hear that the Rory guitar got a decent home and will be put on display in Cork in future.

Here’s everything else that’s coming around the corner:

Think that’s all from me so this week.

Don’t think Young Adam got a video done, but he’ll be back on them this week

Cheers

Thanks Shane!

More details on THE CURE listening party next week as i said folks.

Sin e for this week really

Thanks for listening as always

Ray, Shane, Young Adam and Mia

We are down the boy Shane today  as he is taking on Indiana Jones and big thunder mountain….i hope they have a ball, a hugely deserved break for him. He does a great job on this every week so tis nice to have a break from it.

So it’s the young uns and me today.

Releases for the 25th oct:

So tomorrow is D Day for Rory’s guitar… I really hope it lands well , its dodgy obviously where it will end up… I think you can stream the auction somewhere… Adam reckons it could get as high as 3 mil…time will tell, fingers crossed.

You can find the link to this years Black Friday list here: https://www.recordstoreday.co.uk/black-friday
If interested in anything from the list please email us…

Here is the original. Haven’t heard remix yet… Great tune: Leftfield feat Grian Chatten – Full Way Round [Edit]

THE CURE – Songs Of A Lost World… BRAND NEW ALBUM!!!

Here is the latest single: The Cure – A Fragile Thing (Official Lyric Video)

In biz news… Universal (UMG) has bought indie giant Pias/Integral. Operations are to remain the same (for now anyway). Job losses (unknown for now)… Powerful powerful are UMG in our world. they recently seem to be selling and distributing BMG as well… The Pias/Integral CEO said “I’m selling my shares not my soul”. Companies keep changing hands in our game…

Anyways, small canoe here, keep paddling is the only way.

Gonna hand ye to Young Adam now as he takes ye wherever he wants …knock knock open wide see what’s on the other side…

Hi all, hope alls well! Fingers crossed on Rorys strat. Had a watch off Crowley’s City Hall footage on youtube yesterday and its well worth a watch. It looked like great night! No video this week either on insta. Some weeks I get time and last Saturday was just one of the days I didn’t. Sorry. I hope ye enjoy em though! Anyways, gonna get straight to it this week with the while-aways:

The big one to mention really is Gillian Welch & David Rawlings with their brand new album “Woodland”. Out 15th of November, here’s a bit about it:

“Acony Records is proud to present Woodland, the new album by the preeminent songwriting team Gillian Welch & David Rawlings. Following up their homespun GRAMMY-winning release All The Good Times, this ambitious 10 song album mingles full band tracks with intricate duet performances all tied together with the duo’s signature sound and remarkable lyricism. Woodland was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee at Welch and Rawlings own Woodland Sound Studio (newly rebuilt after the 2020 tornado) and cements the duo’s iconoclastic position at the forefront of acoustic music.”

Next one I’m gonna give a spot to is the brilliant Lucinda Williams with the next instalment of her “Jukebox Series” and its the big one! “Sings The Beatles From Abbey Road is due the 6th of December. Here’s the blurb:

“Lucinda Williams Sings The Beatles From Abbey Road features 12 Beatles songs that include classic hits such as ‘Can’t Buy Me Love,’ ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ and ‘Something.’ Williams and her band also take on beloved deeper tracks such as ‘I’m So Tired,’ ‘I’ve Got A Feeling,’ and ‘Yer Blues.’  Being raised on the blues in the South, the latter is a song Williams was clearly meant to sing. Recorded at The Beatles’ legendary studio in London, the new collection  serves as Vol. 7 of her celebrated Lu’s Jukebox series and is the first new volume in almost four years.

While many great artists have recorded in the hallowed Abbey Road Studios, as it turns out, Williams is the first major artist to actually record Beatles’ songs there aside from the Fab Four themselves.

As an acclaimed, award-winning singer/songwriter for more than four decades, Williams’ music has been highly influential and covered by a multitude of artists. Williams is also an extraordinary interpreter who, like all great interpreters, has the ability to inhabit a song and make it her own. She does just that throughout this selection of Beatles tracks, as she has done on each Lu’s Jukebox volume.”

Tracklisting:

1 Don’t Let Me Down

2 I’m Looking Through You

3 Can’t Buy Me Love

4 Rain

5 While My Guitar Gently Weeps

6 Let It Be

7 Yer Blues

8 I’ve Got a Feeling

9 I’m So Tired

10 Something

11 With a Little Help from My Friends

12 The Long And Winding Road

Here a few more worth a mention:

Thanks Adam!

Main week im hawking to ye this week,  is releases for the 25th oct , must order these from record companies in the next few days….so here’s what’s on offer party people

Just a quick one to mention, the living legend that is Christy Moore has a new album out on  1ST November called “ a terrible beauty” . Christy  is  now 56 years on from the release of his debut album Paddy On The Road,
Claddagh Records is delighted to announce that Christy Moore has signed to the iconic label to release his new album.

Delighted to see one legend has covered other legends ( well in our shop anyway!) with not one but two A LAZARUS SOUL covers on the album … .dowtcha Christy boy, we love ALS down here in Rebel land.

Heres one of them said covers

Black & Amber

Finally from me. Got sent a beautiful album yesterday on a private link, really beautiful listen … .played it 3 full times in a row, was seriously impressed…so what is it Ray.

Jerry Fish feat MayKay – Dreaming Of Daniel

A tribute album to the wonderful talent that was Daniel Johnston…songs beautifully covered by Jerry and MayKay .

Since Jan 22nd 2020 Jerry Fish and MayKay have hosted ‘Hi, How Are You Day’ in Dublin, Ireland. A celebration of the life, music and legacy of Daniel Johnston. ‘Dreaming of Daniel’ is a studio album and true labour of love, produced by Jerry Fish and Cian Boylan, recorded in Camden Studios Dublin.

Jerry explains:
“I felt compelled to record and release an album of Daniels work, not alone is his lyrical wit and honesty an inspiration to me and a multitude of artists the world over, we have so much fun performing his songs live. The album ‘Dreaming of Daniel’ captures the joy we experience on stage performing Daniel’s songs, it’s infectious.”

‘Dreaming of Daniel’ features 12 songs ( + one digital bonus track ) written by Daniel Johnston. Released on 15th Nov

Here is an absolute beauty from the record…great words

Jerry Fish – The Story of an Artist (COVER)

Gonna hand ye folks over to Shane as he takes ye down the road as usual ( dont stress it kid, what we get done , we get done, all good…..there is a mountain of stuff there)

Sound, Ray, sound! I know, it can be a bit of a slog can’t it? I like to try and write a bit like you do just to lighten the mood a bit for people. Some might prefer us to shut up though (well, me)!

Looking forward to the Love Buzz on Saturday, going to do my best to pop in for it. The EP that Ray mentioned above is great. Catchy tunes with a trippy, punky edge.

Since Ray was doing ‘heads ups’, the new ALAN SPARHAWK record is excellent. He sings with effects on his voice throughout and it’s a really different sounding album, kraftwerk-esque, and of course, he is trying to keep going after a massive tragedy.
I think we’re getting a couple more copies in soon.

Anyway, first one to mention for down the road is a brand new album by DAMIEN DEMPSEY, ‘Hold Your Joy’. I like Damien. I think Ray does too. He seems to divide opinion a bit, but I think he has great delivery and his lyrics come from the heart. Out October 25th.
The album will be available on cd, black vinyl and limited orange vinyl. Here’s an amhrán from it: https://youtu.be/uVhrn3wYlJM?si=NUjU_OEJ7gt6_tDC

There’s a new LADY GAGA album, ‘Harlequin’, coming next week, in the wake of the new Joker movie.
Here’s a bit about it, sounds very interesting:

“Notably, Harlequin marks Lady Gaga’s first jazz-inspired album since the passing of her longtime collaborator Tony Bennett.  The album represents a step forward in bringing classic standards into the modern era, as if these timeless songs were reimagined through the lens of all the music that followed.  Gaga breathes new life into these beloved tracks, combining her deep love of jazz with a fresh, avant-garde approach, honoring the past while pushing it into uncharted territory.

What makes Harlequin unique is the way it floats effortlessly between all musical styles, pulling from whatever sounds felt right in the room.

A modern take on vintage pop, the album is influenced by the vast American musical lexicon—heavily rooted in blues and early American music.  Songs like “World On A String” might be called jazz today, but when Tony Bennett released it, it was simply pop music. That’s the spirit of Harlequin—a record that defies labeling and taps into the essence of American music.

This is an album made in the purest sense, reminiscent of a time when musicians simply created the records they wanted to make. An album meant to be heard front-to-back, all at once.

From jazz to punk, funk to blues, and everything in between, Harlequin features unique and original arrangements of songs that evoke the vibrant chaos and emotional depth of the character. Classics like “Good Morning” and “Get Happy (2024)” are reimagined with additional lyrics–punctuating Harley’s rebellious spirit, while “Oh, When The Saints” and “World On A String” take on new meaning through quirky, high-energy arrangements that reflect her wild, untamed nature.”

And the great LUCINDA WILLIAMS is releasing an album of Beatles covers: ‘Sings the Beatles from Abbey Road’. Does what it says on the tin. Ag teacht amach ar 6/12/24
Sorry we don’t have it up on the website yet. But if interested just pop us an email.

And here’s a list of other noteworthy bits:

Myself and Noelle are off to Disney Paris next week. Looking forward to it.

Here’s Young Adam’s latest vid:

October 2nd: The NAD List again for ye, new SILVERBACKS album, THE CURE after 16 years, U2, NEIL YOUNG clear vinyl, GEORGE HARRISON Box Set and RIP Kris Kristofferson

Hi folks

Hope all is well out there.

Delighted to share the wonderful JOHN BLEK instore with ye folks….Tim got d’video back to us in the last week and here it is….its lovely, hope ye enjoy, “ cheer up” ( the album the launch was for) is really growing on me…lovely record again.

John Blek Live In-Store 6-9-24

Exciting day last Thursday … .THE CURE finally gave us all a release date….brilliant stuff!

16 long years …here is the new single

The Cure – Alone (Official Lyric Video)

Stock a little tight ( for now) on the marble vinyl….so mail us back if interested, will do our best.

Plenty blk and deluxe cd set and cds available…Marble tight though.

Hats off to Mr Smith for me….i get a sense he’s a normal kind of dude ( as far as Rock gods go)….he gives me the impression his feet are firmly on the ground, fish and chips, pints of bitter type of lad… his merch always reasonable , tee shirts half the price of some other big acts….didn’t he try and put manners on those dirty f***ers ticketmaster as well.

I like him.

The record and cds are really well priced for what will be one the biggest releases of the year…..31 quid for the vinyl….23 for the 2cd/bluray….for a premium top of the tree release that’s very good ( i think anyway) and i also think Robert Smith’s fingerprints are over it…really excited for this release folks.

Releases in the siopa for this Friday the 4th of OCT include

And then releases for the 11th Oct ….

And the great Kris Kristofferson has left the building, Kris supporting Sinead at that Dylan anniversary gig in Madison square garden left a mark on me…serious moral compass going on there….at risk of been murdered in my bed, Dylan wasn’t seen for dust or dollars that moment…one could say they were Bob’s people ( the crowd that night) and  a few words from him  would have been nice, ok tricky for him i get it, but stand up man, stand up ( why are ye booing this young woman, cut her a bit of slack (for gods sake!)!) not sight nor sound….that’s a  bit  too much of a hot potato for my liking….not Kris though….solid …” don’t let the bastards get you down Sinead” ( there’s a song in that)

Nick Cave name checks him on the latest record “ Kris Kristofferson walks by, king of the kings. In a shirt he hasn’t washed for years”

Who am i to argue with Nick…

Good night big man

Kris Kristofferson – Sunday morning coming down (1970)

Main week for my ordering is for friday the 18th/19th Oct….19th been NAD

So here’s what’s happening…..can you pop up the NAD list here again for me please Shane

Silverbacks – Something I Know (official music video)

Going to hand ye over to Shane now ( U2 announcement as well this past week) as he takes ye down the road as normal…

Sound, Ray, thanks. How’s it going everyone?
Exciting about The Cure release alright! I’m not a huge fan but I would definitely throw on an album by them the odd day in the shop etc. And they’re one of the legends of music, no doubt.
I agree about the price, Ray, it’s nice to see. Annoying that more of the bigger artists can’t do it too.
Taylor Swift comes to mind. (Hope I don’t get shot on the way to or from work tomorrow!)

And another legend in KRIS KRISTOFFERSON gone. RIP.
Noelle and myself are getting into Halloween mode now, and we put on Blade last night. Kris is great in it.
Forgot how similar the Matrix was to it. (Blade came out first)

As Ray mentioned, yep, a nice U2 release announced around the same time as The Cure before last weekend. ‘How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb‘ is getting the 20th Anniversary treatment. There will be CD, 2 LP, a CD Box Set or an 8 LP Box Set.
Pricing is a bit on the annoying side with this. But I’m told that the box sets are a good shape to fit into Santa’s sleigh!

Another great release coming soonish is the 50th Anniversary clear vinyl reissue of NEIL YOUNG – On the Beach. Brilliant album. Decent price on that actually. November 8th for that.

And another 50th anniversary release, GEORGE HARRISON – Living in the Material World.
There will be CD, standard Vinyl, 2 CD, 2 LP or a Super Deluxe Box Set of that available.
Out on November 15th.

And here are the rest of the upcoming releases we were sent this week:

Here’s the aul Instagram page for ye before I go: https://www.instagram.com/musiczone.ie/?hl=en
Sound!

Heaton is a legend in my opinion … .tunes and melodies, tunes and melodies, fighting for little victories, trying to do the right thing…Lennon would be cool with me saying he’s a working class hero I think…here’s a tune from the new record…

Paul Heaton – Quicksand (Official Video) ft. Rianne Downey

Folks we got the pricing wrong on the Rory im afraid … .we was trying to rob ye!! So the price is adjusted down on the box sets now … .sorry for the mishap … .correct prices on the site now ….those few who bought online we will refund upon shipping…sorry!! https://www.gofundme.com/f/bring-rorys-strat-home?qid=fc65dd8b6d8f262eb1728a48aca153fa

The few bob saved on the boxset you know you know….

“The BBC Collection’ is an all-encompassing collection of the many recorded performances of Rory Gallagher at the BBC. Featuring eighteen CDs worth of radio concerts and sessions from 1971 to 1986, roughly 75% of this material has not been officially released before. Also included is two Blu Ray discs of BBC TV concerts and studio performances from 1973 to 1984, all of which has not been officially released previously.

Amassed from the BBC archives and Rory Gallagher’s own transcription discs and off-air cassette recordings, the boxset spans 16 years of his career (1971-1986), taking in highlights such as the 1977 dual television and radio broadcast Sight & Sound concert, Rory’s headlining set at the Reading Festival in 1980 to the emotional ‘At Midnight’ concert live from the Ulster Hall in Belfast, 1984.

A ‘best of’ from this collection will be available on 2CD and 3LP, titled “The Best of Rory Gallagher at the BBC”

These releases celebrate the importance of the artist Rory Gallagher, who was possibly the most recorded musician of the 1970s by the BBC.

“(‘Tore Down’) That was the first song I ever heard played…It’s a BBC recording of Rory Gallagher playing at the Paris Theatre in London in July 1972. And I was in the audience, aged 15, and those opening bars were enough to make me realise that this was something I wanted to do again and again… ‘Tore Down’ was my introduction to live, loud, amplified blues and when Gallagher had finished, my 15-year-old self could not contain his excitement. He ran down to the front to shake Rory’s hand…When the BBC did eventually broadcast the concert, I taped it by leaning the microphone from my clunky cassette recorder against the speaker of our old transistor radio and I listened to that tape over and over again” Nick Hornby, Author”

( rep expects this to be delayed further due to issues with the artwork…some man Steve, that man has lived a life , had it all nearly)

Right so going to hand ye over to Shane now for his bit…

Sound, Ray! Gutted I missed SON, had a bit going on and then went to see 10cc in the Opera House later with my family.
Hopefully she’ll be back again!

Lots to get through from me again today.
First one of note, the second album from KEELEY – Beautiful Mysterious. We really like KEELEY in the siopa. She has a great dreamy sound.
Here’s a bit about KEELEY and the new album:
“Around the release of Keeley’s debut, Floating Above Everything Else, there was a flurry of press which seemingly continued unabated for months and – to our mystification – seemed to offer no clues as to what, exactly, was going on with this artist or how or why any of it mattered. That album’s label, Dimple Discs, has a roster of predominately Irish (and generally excellent) artists; I suppose in some unconscious way we wrote it off as “I suppose you’ve got to be Irish to get it”. And then we were solicited Keeley’s next album. Well, boy were we wrong! KEELEY is a band led by Keeley Moss, with musicians Lukey Foxtrot and Andrew Paresi, although it’s a tight-knight group who propel the project and it makes no sense not to mention manager Nick Clift and studio genius Alan Maguire, who are also intrinsic members of this outfit. There’s a conceit behind the band’s work. Every song in the band’s full repertoire shares a single subject – Inga Maria Hauser, a teenaged German backpacker found brutally assaulted and dead in a remote part of Ireland’s Ballypatrick Forest in 1988. Moss’s personal interest in the case caused her to create a blog, The Keeley Chronicles, which has reported on the case so doggedly that it’s now viewed as the crucial source of public information on the case. And there’s more to that story, of course. But our point is this: Beautiful Mysterious is that rarest of all jewels, the instant classic. Imagine going back in time to when you heard Fear Of Music, Colossal Youth or Forever Changes for the very first time, knowing what each would mean to you many years later. Don’t miss that chance with Keeley’s incredible Beautiful Mysterious. Well, here’s your chance.”

There will be CD and vinyl available and it’s released October 18th.
We had KEELEY play in the shop a while back.
Here’s a tune from the new record: https://youtu.be/t1KEpUzVILs?si=a3j2lQu16mMZB1VA

THE NATIONAL have a new live album coming out on December 13th called ‘Rome.
There will be a 2 CD, a 2 LP with Poster or a 2 LP white vinyl version.

Rome is the definitive live document of The National. Recorded live (without overdubs) on June 3, 2024 at the architecturally stunning venue Parco Della Musica Ennio Morricone, named for the famed Italian film composer, the 21-track LP showcases scintillating versions of beloved songs like “Bloodbuzz Ohio,” “Don’t Swallow the Cap,” “I Need My Girl,” “The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness,” “England” and “Fake Empire”; plus sharpened readings of recent tracks “Eucalyptus,” “New Order T-Shirt,” “Tropic Morning News” and the boundary pushing “Smoke Detector.”

The double album, mixed by longtime collaborator Peter Katis, spans the band’s 20-plus years of songwriting and reveals how each song has taken on a new life in its live performance. “You have to see this band live” is often said about The National, and now, Rome is the next best thing to actually being there.”

A band I like, THE DARKNESS , are back with a new album, ‘Dreams On Toast’.
Saw them live a couple times, great live.
Justin Hawkins Youtube music chat show is well worth a watch.
The LP will be coming out in March 2025.
Here’s a track from it: https://youtu.be/Gm6-ZYvBTVw?si=tzPJTL6HvgOxPSwv
Like it, bit of a Jellyfish sound to it!

And there’s a nice red coloured reissue of the classic album ‘Antics’ by INTERPOL. 20th Anniversary of its release. October 18th also for that.

Here’s a rundown of everything else coming in the next few months:

Here’s Young Adam’s latest video from Instagram: https://musiczone.ie/product/peter-tosh-bush-doctor-red-recycled-vinyl/

I hope ye are still getting the newsletter … .the cull of ( hopefully) bogus accounts has taken place….

Also a couple of things to note … .sometimes ( most times) after the newsletter goes out the website cant take it  and the website goes down, but give it an hour or two and you will be able to view the links again etc… .so come back to us!!

Secondly, the newsletter can be too long…I know I know, this time of year a load of links to try to get up … .so when it cuts out it will say view entire message so if you want to read on…click view entire message … .sin sin on that folks.

Right , i shall be ordering from the record companies in the next few days for releases for the 4th Oct mainly and here is what’s on offer folks….shout if you are after someit here…

There do be loads going on this time of the year for us so we are doing our best to get the info out to ye folks….

National Album Day is on Saturday the 19th of October this year and we need figures back to the record companies in the next few days ( for some companies anyway) …we have quite a few on the site already….maybe Shane has some of them here…nice Fisherman’s blues coloured vinyl to name just one…..and Shacks debut on vinyl for the very first time…..bit of a strange one NAD so bare with me here

Most companies allow preorders ( we can put links on our site and sell away. Hold them for folks etc…no issue)….some others allow preorders also but we cant put links on our site until the day ( saturday the 19th of Oct) and some dont allow preorders…. im told  “product can only be sold in store on 19/10, no pre-orders but you can list them as coming ..  that is our directive from UK labels” so some albums not on our site….so the best thing is if your interested to go through the list here and if you would like something email us back and we will note it for you…nod nod wink wink …as i said a good bit going on…need numbers in a few days!!!

Heres the list

https://www.nationalalbumday.co.uk/product/

Right Shane, going to hand it over to you now kid…bit going on!!

Few big hitting boxsets announced as well since the last time we were at this …over to you kid…thanks

Sound, Ray, yeah, lots going on. Sorry we didn’t get some links done for the website. I suppose a lot of ye email anyway to ask for stuff but I know some prefer going through the website.
Here’s the list of stuff we have for National Album Day again, the ones up on the site anyway:
NATIONAL ALBUM DAY PRODUCTS

There’s also a promotion called ROCKTOBER with lots of coloured limited reissues.
Here’s the list of everything for that. Best prices for a few here. If interested in any of the other ones just let us know: ROCKTOBER RELEASES

As Ray mentioned there, two biggies announced during the week. First up the Fab Four’s early albums in Mono, including some live ones. The Beatles – 1964: Albums in Mono

These are getting individually reissued and all together as part of a big box set.
Some more info on that:
“1964 was the year that the U.S.A. first fell head-over-heels for The Beatles, with an unprecedented run of albums and singles topping the charts and going on to sell millions of copies. But these albums are not simply replicas of the 1963 and 1964 albums released by Parlophone in the UK and rest of world. Seeing a different opportunity, Capitol Records and United Artists compiled these albums for U.S. release between January 1964 and March 1965.

To celebrate the momentous year when Beatlemania exploded across the U.S., seven Beatles albums are collected for a spectacular new 8LP vinyl box set. Meet The Beatles!; The Beatles’ Second Album; A Hard Day’s Night (Original Motion Picture Sound Track); Something New; The Beatles’ Story (2LP); Beatles ’65; and The Early Beatles all feature faithfully replicated artwork and new four-panel inserts with essays written by American Beatles historian and author Bruce Spizer. The albums’ new vinyl lacquers were cut by Kevin Reeves at Nashville’s East Iris Studios with constant reference to the original vinyl first pressings to ensure they are faithful to the original release, while also enabling more musical information to be heard than was possible before. 180 gram audiophile pressings. The Beatles’ Story 2LP is exclusive to the box set.”
Released on November 22nd.

And as well as that, the debut album from QUEEN is getting a deluxe reissue and super deluxe box set.
So there will be the standard CD, a 2 CD expanded set, remastered vinyl and a 6 CD+1 LP box set.
Here’s some info about the box set:

“This Collector’s Edition sees the album presented in a whole new light, having been newly mixed from the original multi-track masters, and with the song “Mad The Swine” now reinstated into the album running order in its originally intended place.

The bonus discs that complete the 6CD+1LP set include: De Lane Lea Demos (also newly mixed from the original multi-track masters for the very first time); a CD comprised entirely of previously unreleased Queen I session out-take music and dialogue; a CD of instrumental and backing track versions of the album; a live CD featuring some of the best and most interesting live performances of songs from this album (some of which are previously unreleased); and finally, a disc comprised of Queen I tracks that were recorded for BBC Radio One (including DJ announcements).

Queen I – including “Mad The Swine” – is also presented on 180g black vinyl.

The Collector’s Edition is complemented by the addition of a 108-page 12” hardback book, which features a treasure trove of rare and previously unseen photography, hand-written lyrics, Freddie Mercury’s sketches, and more.

Presented in a rigid two-piece box with fold-out poster and four photo prints.”

That’s out on October 25th. Both in plenty time for Christmas!

Here’s the list of everything else coming down the tracks in the next few months:

Just before I keep going, there’s a few other NAD titles we got forwarded by The Orchard:
June Tabor & Oysterband – Freedom & Rain (clear/black smoke vinyl)
The Subways – Money & Celebrity (red/white split LP)
The View – Cheek for a Read (black and clear smoke vinyl)

So again, let us know if interested in any of those.

That’s all folks, I think.

Here’s the Instagram page with Young Adam’s video up around the top next to the SON poster:

So if your swanning around Sunday, i might see ya out the Lough ( sorry couldn’t resist)

Quick one, courtesy of Tony Cal a long time ago now….there was a summer show in the opera house and cast went for pints after…one to many for one and there was a fall and a split head…off to the mercy….in he went to get sorted while some of the others waited …a while later an overseas doctor appeared to say we are keeping your friend in hospital…”jays why is he alright doctor” …” we are not sure, will have to run some tests, he keeps saying he is a swan” …that’s right say the friends “ sher we’re all swans doctor!!”

August 7th: Exclusive FONTAINES D.C. In-store Listening Party, DEPECHE MODE Box Set, brand new SMASHING PUMPKINS, JON HOPKINS, plus a Super Deluxe ALAN PARSONS

How d party people

Hope all is well.

Lovely little event announcement today for ye folks…some of ye on the twitter machine and instaspam may have seen this already ( i have become completely detached from said machines, sometimes i might touch in on work stuff but a load of baloney in general terms i feel…a load of cockawalla)

But a lovely event is coming up in the siopa tomorrow week Thursday the 15th of August @ 6pm when we will have a listening party for the new Fontaines record “ romance”.

So fans of FDC can get a chance to hear the album in full in the siopa 8 days before release….not only that, i’m told there will be plenty of spots Fontaines related to be raffled/given out on the evening and last but certainly not least, there is a really limited ( only available to the listening parties around the world, just 2 listening parties in Ireland) white label pressing of the album which will be raffled out on the night to folks who are in our house at the time…there is a chance we may get more than one copy of this but definitely one copy anyway will be raffled.

We have been on about this band since before they were signed and it’s lovely to be thought of for such an event.

We have some folks traveling from Galway, Limerick and Kerry for the event ( all thanks to the social media  I was on about…hah what…it has pluses i guess ( gruntingly)).

So pop us a mail if you want to attend … .or there are links on the site also so can do it through there ….room for 70/80 folks reasonably comfy anyway ( id expect about 50 tbh)

Should be a lovely event and you never know what you might leave with!

The band probably have about 20 great songs at this stage but this one is right up there with them….really looking forward to the record

Fontaines D.C. – Starburster (Official Video)

Going to hand ye over to Shane now as he takes ye down the road with announcements…

Hey everyone! Sound, Ray. A good bit today again, so won’t ramble on.

First release that’s well worth a mention is a brand new album by SMASHING PUMPKINS – Aghori Mhori Mei. Written/recorded soon after the release of their last massive triple album a year or so ago. It will be available to us on CD, standard vinyl or Indies Vinyl with Poster.
And it’s out on November 22nd. Here’s a new tune from it:
EDIN

The next in the 12 inch singles box sets from DEPECHE MODE is coming soon. ‘Spirit: The 12″ Singles Box Set.
Here’s a bit more info about that:

12” x 7 – Limited Numbered Collector’s Edition vinyl set housed in a deluxe slipcase including seven 12″ 180g vinyl discs, riveting artwork recontextualizing original album covers, a replica poster and download card.

Spirit | The 12″ Singles, a collector’s edition deluxe box set, contains seven 12″ vinyl discs including custom replicas of the original three double 12″ singles from Spirit (Depeche Mode‘s 14th studio album): Where’s the Revolution (originally released 3 February 2017, in advance of the album), Going Backwards (released 23 June 2017), and Cover Me (released 6 October 2017).

As a bonus for Depeche Mode fans, Spirit | The 12″ Singles premieres a special seventh disc: the first-ever 12″ vinyl pressing of the band’s legendary Highline Sessions, recorded live in New York City on 3 August 2016. The most complete recording of Depeche Mode’s Highline Sessions ever released in any format, this five-song 12″ vinyl single includes DM’s galvanizing cover of David Bowie‘s “Heroes” (celebrating the anthem’s 2017 40th anniversary) and two previously unreleased performances of songs from SpiritSo Much Love and Poison Heart. ”

The set will be released on September 20th.

And at the start of September there’s a cool looking numbered/coloured reissue of MILES DAVIS – The Man With The Horn with Marcus Miller involved coming out via Music on Vinyl.

Oh and for any metal fans, NILE are releasing a brand new album on August 23rd. Called ‘The Underworld Awaits Us All’. We didn’t put it up on the site as the vinyl is expensive at around 50 quid but if anyone is interested pop us a mail.

Here’s a list of what else will be coming out over the next few months:

And here’s young Adam’s video exposé before I go:

Guess who’s back,  shadys back, back again

Well folks, i is back at the ranch (since last Thursday really) was allergic then,  but sher a few hours and you’re back on the horse … .lovely break though, 9 days away from the ranch and not one emaile answered, hardly any read to be honest…great to power down.

And we aint hurling anymore either, not to be,  thats sport, a lot down here may disagree but better team on the day won it i felt, bar that 13/14 min  spell in the first half, we were never in any control of the game, playing catch up, huge resilience to do so in fact,  so not to be, congrats to the banner. I thought when we beat Limerick down the Pairc that we would win the all ireland but again not to be.

The hurlers gave us great entertainment and heart stopping moments all this short summer , which will live long in the memory.

Right so releases for this Friday the 2nd August include

And then for the 9th of August we have

So the main point of attack for this week is for August 16th…and we will have or endeavor to have albums by…

I personally think this could be the record that brings the lads to a higher level again.

Their output has been stunning in the last 5 years….remember it was only april 2019 when they released their debut record “ dogrel” …the 19th of April if memory serves me, the eve of RSD that year…now we are on the verge of album number 4 with Grian after popping out a beautiful solo record as well in that time….all very impressive records.

Here is a tune from the new album

Fontaines D.C. – Favourite (Official Video)

Mark Lanegan ‘Bubblegum XX’ deluxe reissues 23rd August ( super artist if new to you well worth checking out )
Heres a song from the record…great record, maybe his best…one of my favourite rock vocalists

Strange Religion

Going to hand ye over to Shane now as he takes ye folks down the road etc…

Sound, Ray! Good to have you back, and glad you had a good break. The punter’s wallets mightn’t be too happy though!
Agree about the Hurling final. Clare were very good after our early burst.
Delighted to see Daniel Wiffen pick up Ireland’s first ever Men’s swimming gold yesterday! What a moment. And he set a new Olympic record too. Proud moment.
I’ve been watching the Olympic events on Youtube.

Anyway, there’s a load to get through. I’m going to list them in arguable order of importance.
But first, we have to properly mention the brand new album by our own JOHN SPILLANE. It’s called ‘FíorUisce: The Legend of the Lough’ and sounds unreal. A bilingual, concept, folk-opera double CD album!
There will be a launch event at the Lough on Sunday 15th of September at 4pm!

Here’s níos mó info:
“Dive into a world of myth, music, and magic. Fíoruisce – The Legend of the Lough, a bilingual folk-opera set at The Lough in Cork city, released on September 13th, 2024. The story is a surreal tale culminating in a drowned kingdom, which as lore tells us, becomes The Lough in Cork city as we know it today. They say you can see the tops of the underworld towers on a clear day and hear the music of their big party on Midsummer’s night.
Enter this world through this hugely ambitious concept album which features the voices of some of the most talented folk and sean nós singers of the age including Ríoghnach Connolly, Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin, Niamh Farrell, Nell Ní Chróinín, John Spillane himself of course, and more. Produced by John Spillane and Brian Casey at Wavefield Recordings, Clonakilty in 2023 and 2024.
