Releases then for the 11th of April folks include

So Record store day is Saturday the 12th of April…

Opening at 8AM…Closing at 5 pm…online with Leftovers on Monday the 14th of April @ 8PM.

Will be leaving 5 into the shop at a time for 5 minutes like last year … .it makes it a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for all i think. The queue is gone normally after about 40 minutes.

We will have some spots to give out throughout the day as usual … .probably do 10 in the queue and spread out throughout the day if i have stuff…sent the begging letters to the record companies anyway.

Right so the music on the day….really happy with the line up we are.

Just 4 musical acts this year…

Kicking off at 12 noon with

Bockety  is a (relatively) new band based in Cork,  and they play a wide range of original music “From classic Rock to Country to Beatles-esque psychedelic tunes, to Reggae vibes”

The band is made up of front man, singer/songwriter/guitarist Terry Datson. David O’Donovan on guitar ( super guitar player, member of Cork Floyd, who are playing in St Peters church this friday evening) Dave had a solo album out 3 or 4 years which is excellent and so worth a listen…called “ say no more”…excellent it is.

Ralf is on bass and Con Doyle on drums….full band set….excellent musicians.

Bockety released their debut CD earlier in the year “ and we’re rolling!” and will be selling and signing on the day….30 minute set 12 till 12.30.

Next up at 1 pm is Jean Pack … .this is Adams pick, he raves about them … .young, new band … .the boy will tell ye more … .another full band band show:

Adam here. If yere around Id say get in for this. Ive seen Jean Pack a few times now and Ive been blown away every time. The brainchild of Niamh from I Dreamed I Dream its witty and charming with a great sound. What more could you want!? . Just do yourselves a favour and get in!!! (or I’ll be very cross…)

2 PM then we are delighted to welcome Ian Whitty and the Exchange back to the  shop…i think the lads have done RSD 2017 for us … .where does the time go!
I love this band, way better than what they probably receive credit for….great words, great melodies, really well crafted songs.

I saw them in Coughlans there only a few weeks ago and they were so good,,,so tight…fine band, you should really check them out if new to you…excellent.

Ian will be on guitar and vocals, Paddy on bass and Jean Mee at his happiest with sticks in hand. No Flor on the 12th…so playing as a three piece.

Heres a tune from them…class act

Then at 3 pm or latest 3.15 we have the mighty mighty John Spillane headlining for us…top top man John…really looking forward to John’s performance ….John has had some great albums out in the last 3 or 4 years with the legend of the lough last year and the super snow white horses from 2021 or 22 maybe…fine album that one was….as well as show of the old classics…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97QtkgiMQhw

Thats the lineup folks there will be beer there be will sweets, there will be good spirits all round hopefully … .lights will be low for the musicians but we ARE a shop so if you want to buy something or ask about something please please find us and ask…we always try and marry supporting the musicians and taking yer money….both with a smile, both with a smile…GFO Ray i hear some bully boys at the back.

Releases then for the 18th of April….we will be ordering these in the next few days so shout if interested in anything…..trying to manage our stock,  stock is tricky as what we buy we need to sell….well i do get a few returns from a few record companies but generally no returns….so we try to manage it as best as possible….anyhoo…april 18th here

There is a Waterboys film being shown in the IFI in Dublin Friday night at 8pm….after the film there is a Q&A with Mike Scott  with Tom Dunne hosting…we have two tickets up for grabs….like share retweet repost whatever shenanigans your SM does ( i haven’t a clue nor do i want to learn neither…stick that in your pipe and smoke it outside world)  Shane may have more detail here!!

Right going to hand ye over to Shane now…

Sound, Ray! Lovely RSD line up there. Should make for a great day.
Thanks for the mention of my album also.

How’s it going everyone! Just 10 days or so now to go til RSD. Hopefully the weather holds up, I know I’ve jinxed it now, but it’s lovely out.

First release for me to mention today is the brand new album from WET LEG – moisturizer
We like these. I remember Bobby liking them a lot. They have some gas tongue in cheek lyrics.
Here’s the new track from them: https://youtu.be/6Kjz89xYmS4?si=clDGaF7NeIqhFxtV
We’ll be getting the cassette, CD, clear vinyl and black vinyl of it. Out July 7th.

Another band we like in the siopa, THE HIVES have a new album called ‘The Hives Forever Forever The Hives’ out at the end of August. Great rock band, love their riffs.
There’ll be a nice limited gold vinyl of that available:

Here’s a new track from them: https://youtu.be/EbxrfflmPRE?si=U4Aqj6U1B1Fgcaj7

And there’s a sweet deluxe 10th Anniversary edition reissue of one of the best albums of the last decade, SUFJAN STEVENS – Carrie & Lowell out on May 9th.
Ray got me into Sufjan, especially with his enthusiasm for this album. It’s a masterpiece of quiet acoustic songs with brilliant lyrics and melodies. Largely about his late parents.
Here’s ‘Death with Dignity’ from it: https://youtu.be/dsGODTySH0E?si=APQOUsHPK2FHNmRC
And here’s a bit more about the extras:

A decade after its release, Carrie & Lowell continues to resonate as one of Sufjan Stevens’ most personal and beloved albums—“a fall-down gorgeous and emotionally devastating masterpiece” (The Guardian). To mark the anniversary, Asthmatic Kitty Records presents Carrie & Lowell –10th Anniversary Edition, featuring seven never-before-released demos that offer a rare window into the album’s creation. Arriving on May 30, 2025, this anniversary edition is a must-listen for fans and newcomers alike, inviting listeners to experience the music’s evolution and reflect on the raw emotional landscapes that influenced its creation.

  • Expanded 2-LP package with seven never-before-released demos from Carrie & Lowell or its era on second disc.

That will be released on May 30th on 2 CD, 2 LP black vinyl and indies violet vinyl. Pity the vinyl is very expensive though.
