Hi folks

Hope all is well with ye!!

Thanks to those of ye who came to the murder capital last week…twas special….great lads, we had a good giggle with them after it was all over…i said to Adam when twas over “ im buzzin after that” so that’s a nice way for music to make you feel ( as ye know what power music has or ye wouldn’t be reading my rubbish every week).

Thanks as always to Tim on video and Ger on photos for us…two legends of the shop at this stage.

Anyhoo

Releases for this Friday the 7th of March include…

Big week in the siopa here…big few weeks ….our boy Shane… bUkl….releases his debut album “ blue ghost in the memory machine” on beautiful splattered vinyl and CD this friday the 7th of March.

Beautiful artwork by Jim Mc.

It’s a fierce proud day for Shane to see his creation out in the world … .but its a fierce proud day for me and the siopa also. The shop’s name is tied in with the release which is special for us.

I know Shane a long time, he used frequent the shop when he was a kid in Carrigaline…we opened there in 2001 ( a long time ago now) so Shane was only a child really and he used be in and out…Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit , Metallica that kind of stuff was his tipple if memory serves. He would be in and out with his dad also…always interesting chats with his dad.

Shop moved to Douglas in 2011 and i didnt see Shane for a few years…then one day i think it was around 2014 Shane came into the shop in Douglas Court….we had a chat….he was coming off the back of some incredibly tough years with his mental health and he was trying to get back on the horse with life really. He asked me could he volunteer without pay in the shop just so he could start getting back in the swing of life…he came in  a few times without pay and i told him i can’t have you coming in and not paying you kid….so it was agreed one shift a week type thing….we are both still here thank god….so you can see why this release holds a special place in my heart…the boy… bUkl has come so far…i’m so proud of him.

As for musical talent….he has it in spades…i remember a few years ago chatting with Cian Heff ( ex music zone behind the counter and john blek rats drummer) …the two lads both done music degrees in UCC…at the end of fourth year…the 4th years perform for 15 minutes for the rest of the Music students …all four years…Cian told me in the four years he was in attendance in UCC …Shanes performance was the best…hands down was the term he used actually.

I really like the album….so inventive, so creative…Shane plays everything you hear and wrote every word…heres a tune

bÚkl – I’ve Got a Gun and Sum Drugs (Official Music Video)

Standouts for me personally are “ sympathy friend”, “ paranoid euphoria” “ inmyhead” “ i mo chroi” and “im fine”

16 pieces across the album…its great.

I hope people will listen to  and support the album, it means a lot to us all … .I think the two bucks that work with me may have something special lined up later in the newsletter for the album launch…i look forward to it!!

Vinyl is 25 quid and CD is 15 quid … .paid directly to Shane please or if remote and want to buy it from the website thats fine also … .I hope ye try it and like it folks, i know how much it means….peace out.

bÚkl – I’m fine (Official Music Video)

Releases then for the 14th March…

RSD update here again folks…I don’t have any numbers yet on anything ( especially the problems) but a heads up on tay tay RSD release here….hoping i’ll still have enough to satisfy our shop floor demand…will know more closer to the day….here’s the email from the rep

“there is very limited stock of the Taylor Swift Record Store Day title for UK & Ireland.

Based on the total stock coming into our UK warehouse compared with the demand, all orders will be cut back by the UK.

We will advise of these cuts when we know.”
Also one i want to flag with ye for Record Store Day is this release:

Declan O’Rourke ALBUM – KYABRAM WITH KISSES XX Record Store Day/Smart Vinyl (inclusion of digital content accessed through QR code)

’Kyabram with Kisses XX’ includes exclusive Smart Vinyl technology and two brand new guest recordings by Paul Weller and Imelda May. In 2004, Declan O’Rourke released ‘Since Kyabram’, his debut album, capturing the heart of the Irish music scene and quickly garnering critical acclaim, earning gold, platinum, and double platinum certifications. Two decades later, to celebrate the iconic milestone, Declan is releasing ‘Kyabram with Kisses XX’ , a very special Record Store Day limited edition Smart Vinyl twist on the original album. A hand-picked selection of O’Rourke’s own favourites from the album makeup SIDE A, while special guest contributions either replace or contribute to other tracks from the album on Side B, with never-heard-before bonus material peppering the journey throughout.

One for the Weller fans,  as I do believe Weller sings “ Galileo” on the RSD record….not sure we plugged it before now…so here’s the plug….the record is 33 quid. Shout back if interested!!
Main week we are hawking this week is for Friday the 21st March so if you spot anything you fancy here…please shout.

We got some records from Eoin French’s ( Talos) manager and family recently.

We aren’t going to put them on the site just yet as we would like them to sell locally really if we can.

We have a good few copies of Eoin’s second album “ far out dust” on both vinyl and cd if anyone is interested give us a mail….we have a few CD copies of “ wild alee! also.

An awful awful loss Eoin is,  especially to his family and friends…but even for people like me who didnt know him but  really liked his music, it’s terrible and hard to fathom really…we play his music in the shop here quite regularly so its lovely to have his record in the shop with us.

Here is a beautiful tune from “ far out dust”….his music will outlast us all

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ric3yCCe6c&list=OLAK5uy_nFevAVislXkjCks1aGOv9CsNv_PopQoY8

Going to hand ye over to the bUkl now as he takes ye down the road with announcements etc

Hi everyone!
Ray, thanks so much for you words up above, I really appreciate them. Delighted you like the album.
Hopefully people will take a chance on it.
It’s actually mad when you think I bought my first CD with my own money in Music Zone the year you opened in Carrigaline. It was The Offspring – Conspiracy of One, I still love that record.
And now I have an album of my own music out on vinyl through Music Zone. Thanks so much for your help with it.
A shop regular described the music as like ‘Car Seat Headrest channeling Elliott Smith’ to me recently. I’ll take it. If you think that sounds interesting you might enjoy.

As Ray mentioned, Young Adam and I have been jamming together with the bÚkl songs in a live setting, and we’re delighted (if a little nervous) to share with ye a special behind-closed-doors live instore performance for the album launch.
Been a loooong time since I performed in any live sense, so go easy:
https://youtu.be/9m0zQQdyBGs?si=_hbl0SMhBGZXN_jp

Just to note, with the album, I had to cut ‘I’m fine’ from the Vinyl version as I didn’t have the budget for a 2 LP. but it’s on the CD and will be on Spotify too from Friday.
The album is dedicated to my late friends, Lorraine Quinn, a music nut and such a kind soul, and Paul Hodder, who I played some of the songs on the album with about 10 years ago.

Anyway, better get to the normal hawking!

Neil Young and Van Morrison are playing together this summer in Malahide Castle. I’d love to go but will have to see, hopefully tickets don’t sell out too fast.
They each have new releases coming. Neilo has ‘Coastal: The Soundtrack’ which will be out on CD, vinyl and indies Clear Vinyl on April 18th.
Here’s a bit about that:
“‘Coastal’ is a personal, behind-the-scenes documentary on Neil Young as he cruises the coast on his 2023 solo US tour. The film gives an intimate view of the maverick musician, as he navigates a return to the stage post-Covid. From his everyday observations on the bus to his candid banter with his audience. Coastal is a rare peek behind the curtain of this unguarded iconoclast. The film was shot and directed by Daryl Hannah. The soundtrack features 11 Neil Young songs including ‘Song X’, ‘Vampire Blues’ ‘Expecting To Fly’, ‘Throw Your Hatred Down’, ‘I Am A Child’, and ‘Prime of Life’.”

And Van the Man has ‘Remembering Now‘ out on June 13th.

UK rap queen, LITTLE SIMZ is back with her 4th (?) album, called ‘Lotus’, out May 9th. She’s brill. Lots of different influences in the music from punk to jazz.
Here’s a new tune from her: https://youtu.be/GvrNPiz7rHw?si=jUdx0OzI7qcv3Y6O
Bit of Massive Attack to that.
That’ll be on CD, black vinyl and ‘Electric’ Pink Splatter vinyl.

And another new album, from BILLY NOMATES – Metalhorse. I remember we listened to her first album quite a bit in the shop. That’s out on May 16th on CD, indies blue ‘galaxy’ vinyl and silver vinyl.
And here’s a new tune from her:
https://youtu.be/BxMrKNp0Tr0?si=35YfJfzmNTsLfgYL

Here’s the list of everything else with release dates:

Think that’s everything.
Thanks very much to everyone who has shown interest in my music so far.
I’m on Red FM this Sunday at 7 talking to Mags Blackburn about the album. I’m a bit allergic to the promotion side but I suppose it might help get the word out.
Thanks as well to Young Adam for working with me on the live side of things. He’s a great bandmate.

Speaking of, here’s his latest Instagram run-through of releases:

Ar ais leat so, Ray. Slán.

Hi Folks

Hope all is well with ye.

Releases in the siopa for this Friday the 28th of Feb include…

Really so looking forward to tomorrow evening folks when we welcome the 5 lads from THE MURDER CAPITAL for an instore here with us in the shop to launch their third long player “ blindness”….and i’m not talking shite here, this is such a good record, i genuinely love it…track after track is quality.

One of my own favourites here…the drumming on this is sensational…bass damn fine also

That Feeling
We are at the cap now really. Might squeeze 4 or 5 more in….buy album from site if you want to go.

There is a little time change …with Doors for the instore now 6 pm … .performance will be 6.15 or 6.20 … .the shop will be closed from 5.15 to Joe public …and doors then at 6 pm.

The lads will perform a stripped back set of songs from the album for 30 minutes and sign every single person’s record or cd after … .if you can’t make it and want a signed copy again buy from the site with note to get signed.

Feel free to bring your own beer if you like…all good.

I think that’s the info … .love this band so it’s a great thrill to have them in our home.

Here’s another belter from the album…great tune…ill say it again…its tune after tune after tune…a great record.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpDJLv2sIeU&list=PLZmpSK3klBc7h2MpmP4jcqd5TPKesfbcl&index=5

See ye lucky ducks tomorrow.

Releases then for the 7th of march include…

INTEGRAL Pricing

CHERRY RED Pricing

Need anything above, shout in the next few days

There is a madness release via State 51 for RSD….3 OR 4 of ye after it….it will be 40 quid best i can do….costs circa 35 to 40 euro to get boxes delivered from the UK for  some companies since brexit…generally 15 sterling delivery ….this would have been pre brexit also and fair enough…the kicker is the courier companies are absolutely flaaing it ( cork slang for taken the piss for non Leesiders) charging 20 euros handling fee since brexit…what a load of bollocks…dpd the best of them but the rest of completely flaaaaing it…so delivery plus dog shite handling fees equal 40 euro….4 records…ye get the maths…basically anyone else want the madness one before i go mad myself ?

Will be doing RSD orders for Integral, Proper, Sony, Little Amber Fish, SRD, Shellshock and Plastichead this weekend so still time to wishlist on those.

Right going to hand ye to Shane now as he takes ye down the road etc.

Thanks, Ray. Hello all!
Tomorrow evening should be a great one, will probably see some of ye there.
We’ve all been playing the album in the siopa for the last couple weeks, well worth picking up.
Delighted to have them instore.

First one to mention from me this week is a biggie! PINK FLOYD – At Pompeii is being released on a few formats including on 2 LP vinyl for the first time and it’s remastered by Steven Wilson.
An iconic concert film really. This is essential for Floyd fans I think. I think I might go for it on Blu Ray which includes behind the scenes footage of them working on songs from Dark Side. Looking forward to it. It’s being released on May 2nd.
Here’s ‘Echoes’ from it: https://youtu.be/gkwQV6t3t8w?si=l6p9OfY7Fei5dfrI

Also on the PINK FLOYD stuff, there’s a host of reissues of their 1970s albums on CD and Vinyl due out at the end of March.

Scottish group, CONSTANT FOLLOWER have a new album coming out (might be an instore at some point) ‘The Smile You Send Out Returns To You‘. Lovely atmospheric folky sound. Here’s a tune from it: https://youtu.be/2UVAx37rcsE?si=QCfWOm0oqQ9a_jh2

And before I bate through the list, there’s a brand new album coming out on May 30th by SWANS – Birthing on 2 CD+DVD or 3 LP+DVD. I know there’s a few SWANS fans who frequent the siopa. Here’s a bit of info on it:
“Swans return with Birthing, the latest album, developed over the course of a yearlong 2023–2024 tour.

Birthing is released via Mute and Young God Records. The initial pressings of the deluxe vinyl and CD include a bonus DVD featuring Swans Live 2024 (Rope) The Beggar, a concert film by Marco Porsia documenting the band’s most recent US tour. The DVD also includes I Wonder If I’m Singing What You’re Thinking Me To Sing, a documentary by Christopher Nicholson following Michael Gira’s 2022 solo tour.

Refined through relentless improvisation and live performance, as well as newly composed studio pieces, Birthing is a testament to Michael Gira’s uncompromising sonic vision. Beginning as skeletal acoustic compositions, the songs were gradually expanded and transformed in the studio with longtime live members and collaborators.”

Here’s what else is coming down the line:

Think that’s all folks.
On the bÚkl album coming out on Friday week, myself and Young Adam are working on something for it, so all going well, fingers crossed, I’ll include it in next week’s newsletter.

See ye tomorrow evening.

Thanks as always for listening
Ray, Shane, Young Adam and Mia.

That ALS Test pressing would be a lovely prize!

Lot’s to get through from me today, so we’ll get craicing.

First one to mention is a stone cold 90s rock/grunge classic in SMASHING PUMPKINS – Siamese Dream! Brilliant album. I love the alt rock/grunge stuff from around that time. This has been hard to find on vinyl for a good while I think, or if it’s been available it was crazy money.
There will be black vinyl and limited red smoke vinyl of it. It’ll be out on April 11th.
Here’s a cool little Youtube clip of Butch Vig talking to Rick Beato about the recording of Siamese Dream: https://youtu.be/7j7YoWY92wA?si=s3crbCKA5L4cY0u1

THE SMILE have a brand new 12 inch of two remixes of tracks from the Cutouts album.
Here’s one of them: https://youtu.be/jploYl1mL2M?si=JHIg1lieo9VWxd1j

Sounds good! It’s out at the end of March.

There’s a brand new album from EZRA FURMAN, ‘Goodbye Small Head’ coming out on May 16th. CD or berry coloured vinyl of that. Here’s a tune: https://youtu.be/eLCWXWw4UHA?si=JXDo6itLbV1iIox0

And JIMMY PAGE & THE BLACK CROWES – Live at the Greek: 25th Anniversary is coming out on 3 CD, 2 LP black vinyl or a deluxe 6 LP vinyl box set on March 14th

Here’s a list of everything else coming out in the coming months:

A daycent amount there!

Here’s Young Adam’s latest Insta video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGGgTF8sV3c/?igsh=MWxwNGcybmQ2NGZ2eg==

Focus will be moving to the bUkl ( Shane here with us) album over the next few weeks ahead of its release on the 7th March … .beautiful vinyl and CD … .beautiful artwork by Jim Mc…i spent some time with the album this past week and it’s kind of blowing me away…but more on that in the coming weeks

Hey Ray, ah that means alot that you’re liking my album so far, thank you! Looking forward to people hearing it.

Howdy everyone! Hope yere good.

First up to mention from me today is a nice reissue of TRACY CHAPMAN‘s debut self titled album. It hasn’t been out on vinyl in ages I don’t think. Now coming out on transparent orange vinyl and standrard black vinyl too on April 4th. A classic.

OASIS are reissuing their fourth LP, ‘Standing On the Shoulders of Giants’ on limited silver vinyl for its 25th anniversary. Myself and Young Adam were agreeing the other day that it’s an underrated album.
That’s out at the end of the month.

And an Irish release, the new album from MONCRIEFF – Maybe It’s Fine is coming out on March 28th on CD and pink/white marbled vinyl.
Here’s a recent tune from it:

A day late because of the Record Store Day list … .yep its just out in the last while and yep its that time of the year again!!
Here it is: https://www.recordstoreday.co.uk/rsd-list

Most of ye know the drill, but if you dont then ill try give a quick summary….oh lord.

If interested in anything on the RSDUK list here, please wishlist us back what you would like to get….this is a not a guarantee you will get it, but it greatly enhances your chances of getting the record….no wishlist , then very little chance of getting the record….we cannot “ keep” records for people but wish lists allow me the chance to fight for qtys and titles to cover the demand in our shop…every shop is different….so wish lists are NB NB.

So if you spot something and you would like it, email us back.

As the weeks proceed , we will put RSD pricing on the newsletter  ( as we get them)
No pricing just yet…just the big list….thats it really…ta wish list leabhair ar oscailt ….you will have 2 to maybe 3 weeks to get wishes back to us. Sin e on that for now.

Adam:
Hi all, back again with a link to a song off the 5 track EP we have coming out! Here ye go: https://on.soundcloud.com/WpBEUNBgVmvcY5VFA It’s a track called Dry Your Eyes. As I said last week Erin will have her artwork on display on the day so pop in to have a look. Done using reclaimed materials from the lough. Ill send a free copy of it to anyone who wants it over email too and again if you like what you hear and would like to help towards the album, every cent goes towards it. Pop the shop an email if you’d like a copy! That’s all from me folks. Scary stuff! Here’s the cover again:

Sorry now to be spamming ye with stuff, but I put up a new bÚkl video/song on my Youtube channel and just wanted to share here with ye. Before I do though, just want to mention a trigger warning as there’s a depiction of self-harm and prescription drugs in it. It’s track 3 off my upcoming album. Hope ye enjoy. I got a fairly harsh comment on it earlier today…the nature of putting stuff out there I suppose. If ye would consider subscribing I’d appreciate it. Anyway, here it is. Oh, bonus points if ye can spot Young Adam in it:

Oh, another one that we didn’t get until late last week, a brand new album from BLACK COUNTRY NEW ROAD, ‘Forever Howlong’! It’ll be released on April 4th and we’ll be getting the indies coloured version of it as well as std vinyl and cd.
Here’s a new track from it, bit more poppy than previous stuff: https://youtu.be/Cae57TpoyZg?si=CluLG6XELSeahD9N Good band, I like them.

And here’s a list of all the other releases:

Right so releases for this Friday the 31st Jan so folks…

Declan O Rourke has a 20th anniversary of what really is a classic Irish record …a stone wall classic full stop, hard to believe it’s 20 years old! “ Since Kyabram” is being reissued on the 7th of Feb. The formats are a deluxe 2LP Gatefold set and a deluxe digipack CD.

The Deluxe reissue includes the original album along with a second disc packed with never-before-heard bonus material.

Here is one of these unreleased gems below…beautiful.

https://kmb-communications.disco.ac/track-new/142802514?user_id=679391&signature=0tuai0LVeeO3QtdqvaQMAdJvEGA%3Az4r3gnZj

Declan has been a friend of the shop for a good few years now , played in the siopa one day 7 or 8 years ago and bought some records from time to time.

Here is a few words from Declan for our newsletter about the project:

‘Since Kyabram was not only my first complete offering of artistic expression, but the culmination of years applying myself to the learning of a great craft and infusing it with an identity of my own. Getting to make a record was a privilege I took very seriously and when it came time to, I entered the studio with a collection of songs I felt were strong, and distinctly mine.

I revelled in the studio environment and had the best of musicians to help in pursuing the vision I had for each song. We went for the old school vibe of playing together in the same room and capturing performances. It was a magical time and a dream to watch each of the songs landing. But the most unexpected thing for me was to witness something being born that was far beyond anything I had imagined and that had legs to stand up all on its own. Surreal and magical, the experience was something entirely new, and very addictive. But it all happened so fast at the 8me. So the re-release, in celebration of its anniversary (along with all the extra surprises found hidden among the master tapes and my own archives recently), has been a great chance to go back and absorb Kyabram at a different pace. It sounds as fresh as ever to me, but this 8me around I had the wonderful sense of just being a passenger, and of how lucky I am to have been a part of it all.”

And we have a newsletter special also folks….Declan has signed 20 copies of the deluxe LP ( its a beautiful package ) and 10 copies of the deluxe cds for our customers….not online, newsletter only….so if you want a signed LP or signed CD….shout back here to us…thanks for those Declan.

So releases for the 7th of feb then folks include…

The Bren Berry ( Revenlino)  solo record is out this Friday the 31st of Jan…nice bit of excitement building around it…here’s the third single from the record …really like this song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEPZlf1H5bg

Don’t forget to read the entire message if we go on a bit and it suddenly stops!

Also the newsletter could well be a day late next week….theres a method to my madness as my mother used say!!

I think the boy Adam has a few words to say also….off you go kid…

‘Hi all! So our band The Cutouts are excited to announce that our debut E.P is being released on the 7th of February. It’s 5 tracks. 3 done at home & 2 with Shannon up in Studio 23 (Heres the insta in you want to check the place out: https://www.instagram.com/studio23cork/) The idea behind it was to put together tracks we’ve done that won’t make the album to help fund it. Songs we’ve had lying around but worked too hard on/like too much not to release.

We’re calling it “Scraps” and it’s been a labour of love over the last few months. In the 5 tracks is “Dry Your Eyes” which will be included on the album but done a bit differently, a Bob Dylan cover of “It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry” and a country song that my friend Erin Halpin sings on with me. Erin also did the artwork for it, using reclaimed materials from The Lough,  which she’ll have on display the Friday of release in the shop! She’s an extremely talented artist and an equally good singer and I’m proud to have it displayed. Heres her insta if you’d like to give her a follow: https://www.instagram.com/erinhalpinart/

Scraps will be available to download on Bandcamp for free because we wanted everyone to hear it. As I said before, the hope is to raise some funds to make an album that’s ready to go so we ask if you like what you hear and want to hear more that you consider donating. Every cent goes towards the album.

So heres a link to our Bandcamp page: https://thecutouts.bandcamp.com/ And heres our Insta: https://www.instagram.com/thecutoutsband_/. Bandcamp is a bit bare looking. I only set it up last night (Flakey out!) but it’ll look the part by release day!! I know some of you don’t use Bandcamp too so if you want to pop us an email I’ll put ye on a list and send it over with the artwork on the 7th. If ye’d like to donate we can sort that too. Anyways, thanks for listening and thanks to Ray, Shane, Mia and everyone who supported along the way. I’ll leave ye with a snap of the artwork:

Main week for this week is for releases Friday the 14th Feb so will be buying these from the record companies over the next few days

Marking 85 years representing The Finest In Jazz, UM Japan are making available no less than 118 titles selected from Blue Note’s analog “Tone Poet” and “Classic Vinyl” reissue series on UHQ-CD. Remastering by Kevin Gray, these releases reproduce the sound of the original master tapes as faithfully as possible. Each title is presented on 1 UHQ-CD jewel case with obi-strip with original sleeve notes reproduced on the back inlay

It would take us about 3 hours to link these 30 titles below even though i think they would sell ( some of them definitely)….we linked a few of our favourites….but if interested please shout back….4 batches of these been released this year….this is the first batch….price is 20 quid each…let us know if interested in any over the next few days please!!!

Going to hand ye over to Shane now as he goes through the ones down the road:

Hey all, hope yere well.
Cheers, Ray! I watched the Frank and Walters doc on RTE player last weekend. Very good.
Noelle kept saying ‘I love Cork!’ as we watched it!

I’d definitely recommend Adam’s music with the band. High quality stuff. Bits of the Frames, Whipping Boy and Mogwai in there I think.

First one down the line for me to mention is a new RUSH box set, ’50’. Does what it says on the tin, a compilation of their stuff from the past 50 years but also includes some unreleased material and a hardcover book. Out March 21st.
There’s a 4 CD box set version as well as a 7 LP vinyl version. They’re great, pricing seems a bit mad on it though.

Next one to mention, the new album from Nigerian guitarist, MDOU MOCTAR – Tears of Injustice. This is coming out on February 28th. I like his sound. The album is an acoustic re-working of his debut album. Here’s a new track from it: https://youtu.be/tMUEnIBaCFU?si=_ZJWM-hB0l5BUg9b
It’ll be released on CD, black vinyl and indies blue vinyl.

And the soundtrack to the new BOB DYLAN biopic, ‘A Complete Unknown’ preformed by Timothee Chalamet is coming out on CD and red vinyl on February 28th also.
Went to see it last week, very enjoyable. What I really liked was that Timothee sang and played everything for real.
Some of it is a bit dramatic but sure that’s to be expected I suppose.

Another film star, LADY GA GA has a brand new album coming out on March 7th, called ‘Mayhem‘.
I really liked the new Joker movie she was in.

Here’s everything else coming down the road:

Sin about sin from me, this week. Keep an eye out over the next few days though, we have a big announcement.

Thanks, Shane.

Thanks as always for listening,
Ray, Shane, Young Adam and Mia
