Irish soccer…wo wo woooo….if no interest, stop reading cos im going to poison ye.

Started going a few years ago as Zach the young lad was showing an interest….first game was Scotland in the nations league 2 or 3 years back now id say…nearly all home games since then….some dour friendlies in there…we all liked Parrott going back in the car that night after the Scotland victory ( big congrats to them btw , they were mighty)…something about him…only in and out after that…although we do remember him scoring that late late winner against Hungary ( again)  in a friendly in the Aviva a year or two back….but to thursday last…we spoke in the car on the way up about how we needed a huge week and boy oh boy did we get that….i could talk all night about the week…it stirs something in me…but i am going to focus on 20 seconds of the last week…yep just 20 seconds…15 seconds really but you have to include the extra five seconds as well….so from 94.55 until 95.15 ( i have watched it a few times!!)….94.55 Troy sprints from near the penalty spot ( as does Johnny Kenny) to try and affect the play and put pressure on the Hungarian defender ( into touch is where you should have put it young man ) …Troy ends up one of the furthest players from the Hungarian goal…Kelleher races across the pitch to retrieve the ball…one class touch with the outside of his boat to set himself in the mad rush that was required…a millisecond of composure just as he kicked to ensure he got it to his target…Quality…Scales was heroic for me…im winning it end of story he said…all the while ( 8 or 9 seconds) Troy made his journey back to the six yard line passing at least 3 Irish players on his way ( lads were out on their feet)…desire desire desire to again affect the play and the football noggin to gamble/know where that play could be affected and i fully believe set out to do exactly what happened…stud the ball downwards was the only way to score probably…and the joy ohh the joy… what a moment….Troy sowed and sowed and sowed in those 15 seconds and then he reaped and he will reap more and more going forward i think…foxes in the box are a rare commodity….it was a magic moment…a lot of the young gang have had very little or no experience of moments like that in Irish football…this team has given us something folks…has shown something…very tough road ahead off course but now i feel the whole country is behind them…and that will make a difference…take a bow for now lads and thank ye for a truly memorable and huge week.

When i write here…i finish up when i hand the reins over to Shane for the down the roads …so i dont see what Shane writes but i know he loves the irish soccer matches and he texts me after the match on Sunday…i think i had 2 words…im buzzing!!

Over to you Shane kid for the down the roads etc

Yeah, Ray, was a magic moment. The two performances against Portugal and Hungary were unreal. I did a lap of the house screaming after the winner on Sunday, like most people I’d say!
That’s what I was going to say too about the winner. I thought it was a brilliant finish. He came flying across the box almost away from goal and to put it right in the side netting with the sole of his boot from that angle, while the keeper was closing, no margin for error really, was incredible. Last kick of the game, wow!
The playoffs are going to be awkward but you never know.
Delighted Zach has a taste for the ‘ole, ole, ole’ now!

Anyway, hope yere all well, folks. Me and Ray have been talking soccer since I have been in Music Zone, really. But on to the releases!!

There are some cool Irish releases actually to mention.
KNEECAP have a new limited 7 inch called ‘No Comment’ coming out on January 30th.
Here’s a bit about it:
“Riding a hefty drop down bass riff courtesy of the track’s producer, acclaimed
DJ/artist, Sub Focus, the Belfast / Derry trio, KNEECAP, have focused on the British
states abuse of power and intimidation following their failed pursuit at charging Mo
Chara with terrorism offences. ‘No Comment’ hits back hard, another massive track
that will bounce off the walls of clubs and arenas. The Artwork features Banksy’s
now infamous ‘Royal Courts of Justice’ mural – used with kind permission from the
artist. ‘No Comment’ follows recent massive collaborations with Mozey on ‘The
Recap’ and Paul Hartnoll of Orbital on ‘Sayōnara’ and 2024’s critically acclaimed
album ‘Fine Art’.”

I like these lads, they have a good spirit. Watched this thing on RTE a while back where they did a trek in the arctic, they came across as good lads!

LISA O’ NEILL has a new 12 inch EP called ‘The Wind Doesn’t Blow This Far Right’ out on February 20th.

“New EP by Cavan songwriter Lisa O’Neill is comprised of a group of six tracks, they include the haunting rendition of Bob Dylan’s ‘All The Tired Horses’ that Lisa recorded to soundtrack the closing scene of the final episode of Peaky Blinders, plus ‘Homeless In The Thousands (Dublin in the Digital Age)’ featuring Peter Doherty, released as a stand-alone single in January of this year. It was not the first time O’Neill has written about social injustices on the cusp of a change. Songs like ‘Rock the Machine’ about unemployment in the Dublin dock lands, ‘When Cash Was King’ about the move to a cashless society and ‘Violet Gibson’ about the Irish woman who attempted to assassinate Mussolini in 1926 – this new song was written in response to the growing issue of homelessness in Dublin and Ireland.”

And SODA BLONDE who we had instore a few months back have a new record, ‘Dream Big with The National Symphony Orchestra’. We’re told it’s fairly limited. It will be out on CD and 2 LP vinyl December 12th.
Here’s a track from that, sounds class: https://youtu.be/bBCEcvqyXA4?si=7jjOhT4zfYmWnXVb

Here’s everything else on the radar:
