Main week for this week is Friday July the 8th, going to start with Sony who have the reissue of the classic GEORGE MICHAEL album “ older” …it is still available as a 2lp black vinyl or deluxe limited edition boxset with 5cds, 3lps and a 12” by 12” 48 page book…fine album.
Sony also has the new album by Rae Morris “ rachel @ fairyland” on cd or lp or indies lp.
Warner for the 8th July have the NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE “ toast” album via reprise records, this is the shelved album from 2001 when Young felt the time wasn’t right to release it…comes a time i suppose, so tis out now, what i have heard i have liked,…available as CD and 2LP with an etching on the 4th side…here is “ standing in the light of love” from the album
Universal for the 8th of July have a brand new JAMES BAY album on EMI, his third album now “ leap” …there is a limited edition pink vinyl on the go here as well.
Did i tell ye lately this brexit thing is still a pain in the liathroidi, still and always will be a pain in the liathroidi, the courier companies impossible to communicate with, no talking allowed is the big business model now as we all know well …got 6 copies of be bop deluxe live one for rsd yesterday tuesday and UPS lad says its 67 euro for him to give me the little box in his hand…48 of it VAT which i can try claim back and 19 euro a fee…19 euro for the lad to take my 67 euro in a 30 second card transaction,,,carriage was 11 sterling for the 6 records…all in fees to get the records was 33 quid…carriage was always there but 19 quid for nothing…Partizan sent us some JUST MUSTARD promo bits , signed prints, key rings, badges,,,,freebies to give to customers…Fed ex hit us with an invoice for 14.29 euro for “ clearance administration charge vatable at 23%” this stuff would do your head in….complete small fry in the scheme of it i know, but still manages to do the head in…seems a crazy way to do it to my simple mind…with brexit we have to be charged Irish Vat when we import from the UK once it hits our shores ( the courier companies do it) we can then claim it back in our vat return ( pain in the liathroidi again to manage) but the couriers still charge an admin fee for the honour…it can be anywhere from 5 euro to 35 euro ( no rhyme or reason to it) averaging about 15 euro id say…one company ROM ships out to us once we get over 100 euro on the invoice so we have received invoices for 107 euro and have had fees of 20 plus euro on them…some companies use PVA, postponed vat accounting and it is easier but they still charge a “ multi line clearance fee” which at times has been 35 quid for maybe 20 records…surely theres a better way?…we buy lps and cds out of the UK…nothing else now…surely we could be greenlighted from a vat point of view by the irish government rather than pay and then claim back but get caught for fees for the pleasure..ye wonder why i do be grumpy, probably just got a clearance invoice from a courier for free stuff we are giving to folks…pain in the liathroidi.
The Orchard this week sees the release of Metric – Formentera with the Vinyls to follow in late August, the new Izaak Opatz with Cheddar Yellow Vinyl and Berries debut album on Xtra Mile. Going to hand you over to Shane now who will take ye folks on a walk down the road…
How’s it going everyone? Hope the summer is going nicely for ye.We’re lucky we haven’t got the crazy heat that a lot of europe is getting…touch wood.
Some nice ones to mention this week but nothing huge.
First up is a bit of a recent classic, from the indie explosion in the early to mid 00s (although, it’s 20 years old already!), THE LIBERTINES’ debut ‘Up the Bracket’ is getting an anniversary reissue which will be out in October. We will be getting 4 formats of it: CD, Std vinyl, red coloured vinyl (limited) and a deluxe box set with lots of stuff in it. Good band.
Before that, at the start of August, some guy called PAUL MCCARTNEY is reissuing his solo records ‘I/II/II’ in a set called ‘McCartney’. There’s CD or vinyl available of it.
Also in October, Irish lads KODALINE are releasing a live album, ‘Our Roots Run Deep’ (nice title) We have a sweet promotion for it too. The first 10 pre-orders of the album on any format will get a bonus signed laminate with it. Formats are: Indies maroon coloured vinyl, cream coloured vinyl and CD. Here’s a little trailer for the album: https://youtu.be/-mu6sLcyzZU
Another nice anniversary reissue coming soon is JETHRO TULL’s ‘Thick As A Brick’ which is 50 years old. The original newspaper style cover booklet is re-done and looks pretty cool.
To confuse matters, a special CD/DVD/Book set of the album came out 10 years later, so that’s getting a 40th anniversary reissue. There’s a surround sound mix by Steven Wilson in that! We’ll have both anyway (in the link above)!
Also coming soon down the road CIGARETTES AFTER SEX are reissuing their debut album on clear vinyl in mid August. I think there’s another coloured variant of it coming too in November. Was popular in the ship when we had it but it’s been out of print for a good while now.
DROPKICK MURPHYS are releasing a new album too which sound interesting, featuring the lyrics of Woody Guthrie. It’s called ‘This Machine Still Kills Fascists’
Big exciting news for us here in the last few days with the announcement of the new album by THE SHAKER HYMN, their third full length and first since 2016…my opinion…the most underrated band in the country, Bob loves them , Young Adam loves them, I love them, Shane really likes them as well ……new to you?…here’s a taste from album one “ rascals antique” with the track hunter and the headman
Album one was 2014…
Album 2 was in 2016 “ do you think your clever?” …this is sucking it out from that album
There was a bloody class ep in 2019 “ the shape of the sea”
Here is “ brother “ from it
The new album is finally coming at the end of the month, cant wait!!!. Seriously, I can’t wait…
Its been a mad few years for the band, one of them nearly died from some evener crazier virus, they tried to record the new album ( this album) in analogue with tenth hand equipment and lost stuff, some of the equipment caught fire, a right cluster f**k…but all are fit and well again thank god, the album is done, some of the analogue stuff survived and is on it…and the new album “ the last concorde” is out at the end of the month…and the lads will play in store here to launch the new album on Sat 2nd July @ 2pm…cant wait…THE SHAKER HYMN are playing the night before also in Coughlans, , still some tickets left for the Coughlans show as i send this…hopefully see some of ye at one or both shows! Here is the self titled track for the new third album

Mercury Studios present us with PHIL LYNOTT and THIN LIZZY “ Songs for while im away and the boys are back in town live at the Syndey opera house 1978” . “Songs For While I’m Away, a feature documentary on the life and music of Phil Lynott, telling the story of how a young black boy from working class 1950’s Dublin became Ireland’s Greatest Rock Star. As lead singer of Thin Lizzy, Phil Lynott was a songwriter, a poet, a dreamer, a wild man. Told extensively through the words of Phil himself and focusing on some of his iconic songs, the film gets to the heart of Philip, the father, the husband, the friend, the son, the rock icon, the poet, the dreamer. Also included in the package is The Boys Are Back In Town Live At The Sydney Opera House October 1978 on DVD and CD. This concert features restored picture and remastered & mixed audio, performed by the lineup of Phil Lynott (bass & vocals), Scott Gorham (guitars & backup vocals), Gary Moore (guitars & backup vocals) & Mark Nauseef (drums). 5 songs performed from the concert have previously never been released and are available for the first time in this package. Available as a bluray dvd/cd format or as a 2 dvd/cd format.”

Last couple from Uni for the 24th june are the 50th anniversary of MARVIN GAYEs “ whats going on” …this is the 2lp european version….this release has caused some controversy as there were/are 2 versions doing the rounds…an American version mastered by Kevin Gray and a european version ( the impression for a while was there was only the Kevin Gray master on the go)…from what i gather the EU version is not the Kevin Grey touted version, although the source audio from the EU version is from Kevin Grey’s master, but cut on a different lacquer. I think thats the case with it.
Last one from Universal for the 24th june is a deluxe edition of the grammy winning album for best newcomer by AROOJ AFTAB “ VULTURE PRINCE” …we have been asked countless times for this record in the last year so great to see a repress on Verve…first Pakistani to win a grammy…here is “ mohabbat” from the album
Going to hand ye over to Shane now as he takes ye on a walk further down the road…bring the wallets i suppose just in case like…
Sound, Ray! Hey everyone! Hope ye’re all doing alright and enjoyed the long weekend just gone. We went to Drimoleague for a night camping. Was a bit soggy unfortunately but a bit of craic all the same.
Going to get stuck into the releases of interest coming soon. First up, Mr. JACK WHITE is releasing his second album of the year towards the end of July, it’s called ‘Entering Heaven Alive’. All formats we’re getting will be limited. We’ll have the colourdy one as well! Check the link if interested. The album from April ‘Fear of the Dawn’ is good, so I’m sure this will be worth a listen too.
Second up is another brand new release, this time from EDITORS called ‘EBM’. With the orange version of this it’s ‘fastest fingers first’ as we’ll only be getting a few. Here’s ‘Karma Climb’ from it: https://youtu.be/ODvAgBnjEac It will be out in September.
3rd, friend of the shop, well, friend of all shops really is TIM BURGESS with his new album called ‘Typical Music’. He was some man for keeping people going on social media through the pandemic. That’s coming in September too.
That’s all from me this week I think. Back to you Ray, cheers!
Right last one for this week is INTEGRAL for the 1st July and there is a reissue of Sligo native PERRY BLAKEs “ CALIFORNIA” album on Moochin about records …20th anniversary version of it in fact…it will be a coloured reissue with a bonus 7”…here is the title track from it
Cork has lost an icon, in a musical sense apart from probably Rory , Cathal was at the top of the tree, hugely respected by his fans and his peers…a musical icon.
I was shocked and really saddened Monday when I heard of Cathal Coughlans untimely passing…it has hardly left me since, like it would with someone you know well ( i never even met him, had a bit of interaction on twitter here and there but never met him)…I hadn’t a clue he was unwell. Never met the man but was a fan of the man…savage lyricist in both senses of the Cork word, sharp, intelligent, caustic even… some singer and composer…ah sher an awful loss. Second last musical project was Cathals solo album “ songs of co aklan” and its a fine record ( followed up with the TELEFIS project only released a few months ago…more quality)…came out in the middle of the shit show ..so no instores or anything like that, but i really felt Cathal would be the type of man who would say “ yeah, no problem ill play a few songs for ye”…id say there was no bullshit with him, id say he didn’t suffer plonkers gladly, there seemed to be an innate kindness to him…an amazing man i would suggest…listened to a long interview last night he done with Swimmers Jackson only a year ago…( you will find it on the twitter machine thingy under Swimmers Jackson) not a peep he was unwell, not a peep of feeling sorry for himself…not a peep of it…intelligent, thoughtful , all about the muse interview…quality tip to toe.
The MICRODISNEY show in Cypress Avenue in feb 2019 holds an even more special place now ( i spent a little bit of time that night with a great Cork record seller Richard Meeney who was very unwell himself at the time, he managed to last a good part of the gig even though his health was really against him…but he told he me he wouldn’t miss Cathal for the world…ah lads rest in peace) …condolences to Cathals family and friends…terrible loss..rest in peace Cathal.
Heres a taste of his genius

Cheers Ray! How’s it going everyone, hope ye’re all well. Lots of releases once again this week to get through. It’s great to have so much choice and things to look forward to in music, keeps us all going! Can be a bit mean on the wallet though!
First up is the 40th anniversary edition of MJ’s ‘Thriller’. Out in November on 2 CD and 2 LP. Biggest selling album of all time? He was some talent. Sad about the other stuff though.
Second is definitely one to look forward to, Paolo Nutini is releasing a brand new album in July, called ‘Last Night in the Bittersweet’. We like him in the shop. Interesting artist and this one sounds interesting:
“‘Last Night In The Bittersweet’ is a 70-minute epic that spans the distance from classic rock to post-punk to hypnotic Krautrock, in the process proving its value as his deepest, most varied, most accomplished, and ultimately most rewarding set so far. The insistent Motorik rhythms of new single ‘Lose It’ brings shades of early ‘70s German bands like Can and Neu!, and are a product of Paolo writing increasingly on bass guitar. At the other end of the spectrum, ‘Through The Echoes’ is a timeless classic in the lineage of Ben E. King and Otis Redding, with Nutini’s vocal delivery reminding us why he got snapped up by Atlantic in the first place.”
Third is another favourite of the shop’s ASH. They are reissuing their debut 1977 on cool splattered vinyl (see above), also in July. Great band!
And in September, DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE have a brand new one, ‘Asphalt Meadows’, we will have the indies pink version of that!
That’s all from me this week.. Back to you Ray, sound!

Invada records have the NICK CAVE/WARREN ELLIS score to “ la panthere des nalges” on CD, picture disc vinyl and white vinyl version…vinyl include download codes.I keep asking why the download codes seem to be becoming less of a thing, but i can’t really say why that is because i simply don’t know…ill keep asking folks!New YANN TIERSEN album out via Mute on 10th June…well cd is june 10..lp is sept 30th… Nearly all the record companies took our orders for RSD 2 on June 18th back along in March except Universal so we have to place our order for uni rsd 2 titles by close of business tomorrow…if you wishlisted already for these than all good, they would have been noted but if you want to wishlist for any of these then please do it by tomorrow…here is a quick run through the titles for uni rsd 2 on june 18th. We would like to thank Rowan for a really special instore last Saturday, they were just super.
Other news is d’video is worth a gawk this evening as we have the draw for the Fontaines DC test press and signed prints “ live” in d’video. For non Cork folk, gawk may have one meaning, if it has a meaning at all? Gawk is to look at something or maybe look too long at something “ what are you gawking at boy? But in Cork it also means…well… to vomit…only Cork i know…I have no idea where that came from…do I delete?…maybe i should have just said “have a sconsee at the video” Anyways, the video is worth a look tonight” live “. https://youtu.be/-yhgf3mwRag
Other news , i mentioned quickly last week that the new JUST MUSTARD record is out via Partisan on the 27th May “ hearts under” and we have 18 signed prints to give away with any pre orders or orders week one of the release…they are lovely…fine Irish band also …here is “ still” from the new record

Young Adam is a big fan of the Liam boy, I was telling him Mark Lanegan wasn’t as big a fan!

Bit of news for ye re the Bob Man…he got himself a nice job in London town working for Warner Music based in Kensington ….the boy done really really well…200 applications for the job , an assessment interview knocked it down to 50 folks…then 20, then 10, then 4, then 2…then Bobby…well done kid!! Speaks for itself really doesn’t it…his role is in Global Catalog i believe and he will be involved heavily involved with anniversary reissues…so your favourite album via Warner needs a reissue, Bobs your man! Well you know, big team there, he is loving it so far anyway, no better buachill…i think he will also be honing his skills of the dark arts in his role, streaming, playlists, placements and all that stuff i know nathing about. He might give us an update someday himself anyways but for now i’m sure you will all join me in saying Well done Bobs.
Proper for the 27th of May finally have the vinyl release of the new DOLLY PARTON album “ run rose run” , there are some GOV’T MULE reissues via Provogue on the 27th may also…live tribute/cover of the ROLLING STONES by the MULE …” stoned side of the mule” coloured vinyl reissue and actually out for the first time on CD! Going to hand you over to the Shane boy fresh back ( or maybe not so fresh !) from the TOOL gig in Dublin at the weekend as he will take you through further down the road announcements etc…
Sound Ray! How’s it going everyone? Hope the week is going well for ye. Yep, back from Dublin and the Tool concert in the Point. Was class. Last time they were in Ireland was 2006. Every member was in great form and they played for over 2 hours. Great to see them!
Also, Ray, Adam and I echo what you said about Bob, well done buddy!
For the upcoming releases this week, there’s a good few.
First up, a sweet one to have, QUEEN’s ‘Platinum Collection’ is coming out as a 6 LP coloured vinyl box set. I remember my Dad had this on CD and I used to borrow it a fair bit years ago. All 3 of their ‘best of’ collections in one set. It’s out on June 17th. Numbers are limited on it, so be quick if interested.
Secondly, there is an even more limited Suggs and Weller 7 Inch with motown inspired tunes on it. Fastest finger first on it so best to order here at the link if interested.
One of Bobby’s favourites JULIA JACKLIN is releasing a brand new album ‘Pre Pleasure’ in August. Her third I think. Should be good. We’ll have a few formats (white and red coloured vinyl)!
Also, one of my favourites, black midi are releasing their third album ‘Hellfire’ in July. There will be a free collectable Flexi disc with the first 10 pre-orders we get for that and we will have the limited clear red vinyl of it. Great band, a bit bizarre but exciting in my opinion. Here’s the quality first single from it: https://youtu.be/Efmq_uXt1Rk
Integral for the 3rd June have a few nice ones…first up is the new Angel Olsen album “ big time” on Jagjaguwar…we were allocated 10 copies of the pink vinyl…5 sold. 5 left, also available on blk vinyl and cd. A hugely personal album from Angel with themes of loss and grief and love throughout. Angel outed to her parents at the age of 34 about her sexuality and harrowingly 3 days later her father passed away, and some weeks later her mother passed away also…harrowing once but so quickly twice is completely devastating…here is “ all the good times” from the new record
I’m a little behind the 8 ball this morning due to a real messy day yesterday, through no fault of our own really, a story for another day though…so going jump straight in with releases for this Friday the 6th May…
So the main week of focus on releases this week then is the 20th of May…first though good news, the Fontaines DC signed stuff landed so we will have the draw Friday all going well…will keep ye posted…another cracking Irish band who have an album out towards the end of the month are JUST MUSTARD and they have also sent us some lovely signed prints as well…preorder the album with us ( CD or LP) to be in with a very good chance of securing a JUST MUSTARD signed print…more on them over the next week or two.

Mercury studios also for the 20th has THE POLICE “ around the world restored and expanded” on dvd/cd, bluray/cd and limited 2lp set. Its a document of their first world tour from 1979/1980 both on and off the stage, so a documentary as well as live shows.
The Orchard for the 20th of May have THE LEMONHEADS reissue of self titled album on two very limited ( im told anyway) coloured vinyl, there are 3 THERAPY! CD reissues “ disquiet – restless edition” , “ a brief crack of light” and “ we are here till the end”…lastly there is a STEVE VAI reissue of “ flex -able” on a few physical formats.

First one up today coming down the line is a nice one. Mr. BOWIE’s classic ‘Ziggy Stardust‘ is 50 and they’re bring out a picture disc version and a new half-speed mastered version. What an album, one of his best. That’s coming in mid June.
Next up is a recent release, KANYE WEST‘s latest album ‘Donda’ is getting a vinyl release. 4 LP set. Whatever you say about Kanye, he’s not boring. This album is pretty different from his earlier stuff but still high quality. That’s out the week after Bowie’s Ziggy in June.
On September 3rd, MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS will release their new album ‘Electra Heart’. We will have it on ‘limited magenta vinyl’!
Oh and two more oldies but goodies, The BEACH BOYS compilation album ‘Sounds of Summer’ is coming also in June (on a few formats including box set) and ELTON JOHN’s ‘Madman Across the Water’ is getting a 50th anniversary reissue too on a few formats, with extras and new liner notes.

“Nine Waves was recorded in the Dublin Mountains at Hellfire Studios, produced by John ‘Spud’ Murphy (whose previous work includes records by black midi, Lankum and caroline). The album features 11 tracks of both traditional and original songs and tunes. Nine Waves follows the duo’s standalone single I’m A Rover, which won them an RTE Radio One Folk Award for Best Traditional Folk Track. Ye Vagabonds were also named Best Folk Group for the second time at the 2021 ceremony, where they hold the record for most awarded artists.
The brotherly harmonies and multi-instrumental abilities of Diarmuid and Brían Mac Gloinn were joined on Nine Waves by Kate Ellis (cello) and Caimin Gilmore (double bass), both members of the Irish contemporary classical group Crash Ensemble, and Ryan Hargadon (Anna Mieke, Rachael Lavelle, Kojaque) on piano and saxophone.

Going to hand ye over to the Shane lad now as he runs though the usual down the road announcements in the last week…
Sound, Ray! Well done yourself for putting the RSD party on, lots of work, and it was a great day! I thought I was being good picking up only a few things from it but ended up with a load as usual! Like a lot of ye!
The releases keep coming though and I’ve another few to mention this week.
Ray mentioned ‘Iowa’ earlier but fans will be delighted to know that SLIPKNOT’s 3rd album, ‘Volume 3: The Subliminal Verses’ is going to be reissued soon too, on purple vinyl! Long overdue, as these, like Iowa, would be priced at upwards of 200 quid online due to their rareness. Their sound changed a bit on Volume 3. Produced by Rick Rubin. Great album. Again though, it will be limited…
Secondly, another one of my favourites, PRINCE will be releasing ‘Live from Syracuse 1985’ on two formats. The year after Purple Rain came out so right in his prime. That’s coming on June 3rd.
INTEGRAL THEN FOR THE 20th of MAY have finally the new BEACH HOUSE record “ once twice melody”….the vinyl is more or less sold out ( we were allocated 14 units in total im afraid) but have 2 of the boxset and 1 ‘Silver Edition’ (it’s actually on black vinyl) left to sell until the repress…new FLUME and PORRIDGE RADIO also on the 20th May
Also and more on this one next week as time is agin me ,Rough Trade have the new SOAK record on cd. Lp and indies lp…
Sin e for this week really folks

Busy weekend ahead also with non-RSD releases, i suppose the record companies know there is a lot of footfall in the shops so stack up the releases…last week to enter our fab FONTAINES DC competition, new record out this Friday, really looking forward to it.
Other releases out this Friday the 22nd April include…
Right so onto releases for friday the 6th of May ( just got more news re RSD….Ireland got no stock of THE STREETS title for rsd, so really sorry about that, out of our hands, sorry…also the RAMONES title is moved to drop 2 on 18TH June….the SIMPLE MINDS release for RSD has run into a problem….we were badly cut and only got 5 copies of it….8 lads had wishlisted it so early birds will get them folks….out of my control, simple minds fans set yer alarms….ohh the pressure …how many in front of me in the queue? How many simple minds heads in front of me in the queue?? Ohh the pressure, i’m not being flippant here…nervous for us as well, we want folks to be happy but lots of uncontrollables….hopefully the shutter will open, the credit card machine doesn’t crash! That does happen a few times a year for 15/20 mins…hopefully not sat at 8.25!!)…the who its hard is now also drop 2!)

Last one and the most important one for us from THE ORCHARD via the Beverly Martel label in Los Angeles is the debut album from Ireland and Leesides very own ROWAN. Here is a bit more about the 3 piece…Debut album from Irish rock band ROWAN. Born in Cork, Ireland out of the early pandemic last year, when the three accomplished musicians were forced into a hiatus from session work, Rowan are fast becoming one of the most exciting new Irish acts around. Signed to Beverly Martel with last year’s EP ‘Everybody Talks’ their first imprint with the LA label. Instant earworms such as ‘Nothing’s Gonna Change’ and ‘One Of These Days’ put the band on the map in Ireland and beyond. Playing at the Prestigious Other voices festival in Ireland and getting play and support from tastemakers like Steve Lamacq and Lauren Laverne at 6 Music as well as Ed Smith and Jessica. Fast forward to 2022, the stage is well and truly set for Rowan, who teamed up with producer Tim Palmer (U2, Pearl Jam, James) for their superb debut album Does It Make You Happy?.
Really looking forward to this release here in the shop, the lads have played in various bands in the siopa down through the years ( and in various bands in Cork through the last few years) and its great to see them get a record deal and a bit of push behind them, hope this record will do really well for them and push them further up the ladder. I saw them live before Christmas and was really impressed with them, i had seen them in different bands before but never as ROWAN and it was a treat.
Here is “ everybody talks “ from the new record..cracking tune
Album will be available on vinyl and i think CD could be coming soon also…LP is the 6th May folks for sure.
Great news great news….ROWAN will launch the album in the siopa with us on Saturday the 7th of May at 2pm…i hope ye can come out and support the band, this should be a great instore folks, delighted to be involved we are. The band will play songs from the record on the day and sign copies of their debut album….more great news there will be cd copies here also now for the 6th May. reserve a copy by emailing us or purchase from the website also….more in the next few weeks.
Going to hand ye over to Shane now as he takes ye through nice announcements made in the last week…RADIOHEAD fans hold onto yer hats is all i say ( maybe not yer wallets like!)
Cheers Ray! How’s it going everyone? Hope all is good with ye. Yeah, Ray’s right, first up is a very interesting release coming on June 17th, two of the RADIOHEAD boys JONNY GREENWOOD and THOM YORKE team up with drummer TOM SKINNER of SONS OF KEMET. They’re calling the group THE SMILE. Jonny has created some absolutely brilliant music over the last decade or so for films. Went to see the movie SPENCER a few months back and his music in it was class. And of course, Thom is great too. Also, the modern jazz/afro-beat band SONS OF KEMET are class as well, so this should be good. Here’s a track from it, not what I expected: https://youtu.be/-EB5NhI2RQQ The yellow vinyl is limited so be quick if interested.
Secondly, WILCO are releasing a load of formats of the 20th Anniversary deluxe edition of their excellent album ‘Yankee Hotel Foxtrot’. There will be a Super Deluxe 11 LP set with loads of extras, an indies coloured vinyl, CD box set and more. That’s due out in September.

Hope to see ye Saturday, when all is said and done it is an important day for us…we are a community siopa really, not 2 a penny those anymore in the world we live in, i was chatting to a wife of a good friend of mine and customer in the shop and she was saying shops don’t “ keep things” anymore , that that is a thing of the past, i hadn’t thought about it really but tis true i suppose , we have a fine record shop behind us “ kept” for lads not to mind what’s on the shop floor to buy…but sure we are a business also, have to pay the bills ( someone has to pay for the wax ( for the yacht) )) but pride ourselves much more on the former if truth be told…i always tell myself enjoy the day Ray, but can be hard to relax as a lot going on and you want everyone to be happy and relaxed also….impossible really, but sher lets do our best…hope to see ye on the day…spots, beers, live music, loads of records and a few laughs hopefully.

Right so RSD 2022 …Yipee…a bit wrote negatively about it every year…our first was 2011. I really enjoy the day, albeit there can be a few problems….but overall we honestly see the day as a celebration of our existence, every year i say to myself when its done, another year at it, another year here…how bad…we have sent the begging letters to the record companies looking for free stuff to giveaway on the day…hopefully they will come up trumps, they usually do to an extent anyway….got some LIVE MUSIC lined up for the afternoon of RSD, SATURDAY THE 23RD April..thats the party part….we missed out on one or two bands/artists we were hoping to get for RSD as they are away but we think we have a nice lineup for the day…time slots will be confirmed ,,,sorry to recap first doors open @ 8 am, few spots given out,,,,live music starts around 1 …will confirm next week…right the line up…we have THE BURMA in with us on the day, we really like this band here in the shop, i think they have played 3 or 4 times for us now…debut album to be released later in the year, so we are really looking forward to that here…fine band, here’s the lads doing their thing up in Windmill Lane …class
We are delighted to also welcome back LEWIS BARFOOT to play a few tunes in the shop..Lewis is great, such fun, so positive and she makes beautiful music… RTE radio 1 DJ Lillian Smith called her music balm for the soul and its hard to find a better description…Lewis released an album “ glenphuca” last year and its a lovely listen….heres “ white dress” from it …she will be singing, selling and signing on the day.
Young Adam said to me a few weeks back had i heard of RUA RI ..i said no and he said he heard him play down in Ballycotton Church and he was fierce impressed…id say he is just starting his journey…i was fierce impressed also…he is coming in to play a few songs on the day for us also…
Last but not least in with us on the day will be Mr. JOHN NEVILLE…John is a veteran of the music scene in Ireland and has a new album coming out in May or June…Johns lead single from the new album is “ old honey bee” and it was playlisted on RTE Radio 1 amongst others…
Here it is…Johns a lovely tone to his voice, a lovely guitar player and a lovely man to finish the package.

IN CELEBRATION OF GEORGE MICHAEL’S ICONIC ALBUM
SONY MUSIC PROUDLY ANNOUNCES
THE DELUXE, LIMITED EDITION BOX SET
OUT 8TH JULY 2022
“OLDER IS MY GREATEST MOMENT” – GEORGE MICHAEL
Written, arranged and produced by George Michael, ‘Older’ saw George exploring new music, as he reflected on life, loss and pain with, ultimately, the redemptive power of love triumphing over everything.
Originally released in the UK on 13 May 1996 through Virgin Records, ‘Older’, George Michael’s iconic album, reached the pinnacle of chart success, where it remained for three consecutive weeks, spending 35 weeks in the top 10 overall. The album produced six singles, two of which – ‘Fastlove’ and the haunting ‘Jesus To A Child’ – reached No.1, with the other four peaking in the top three. The album was a huge global commercial success, going 6x platinum in the UK, as well as verified platinum in another 22 countries – an achievement which is unparalleled to this day.
‘Older’ was George’s third album as a solo artist and would see him experimenting with new musical styles and expanding his artistic horizons. Hailed by critics as a triumph, it told the story of an extraordinary period in the life of the man who wrote, recorded and produced it, as he journeyed through one of the most turbulent periods of his professional and personal life. George channeled all his painful life experiences into one of the most personal, heart-felt albums he had ever written.

Few bits of housekeeping first…re RSD, HALESTORM and PAUL BUTTERFIELD BLUES BAND, THE RAMONES “ the sire years” 7lp releases are moved from the april 23rd date to the date in June. The Ramones one will be available in the states in the April rsd but not til the RSD in June for us.
We will have live music all afternoon on Record Store Day ( like the old days) . will have more information next week with times extra, but we are gonna make it , the day, what it was set up to do, celebrate record shops, so Live Music, spot prizes, beer hard or soft…a celebration of record shops trading in their communities…..try pencil in an hour on the day if possible, regulars require sick notes if not in attendance.
We have a pair of tickets up for grabs for the KAE TEMPEST gig in CYPRESS AVENUE on the 1st of May, purchase the album from us or simply email us back to express an interest in attending the show and we will stick your name in the hat…i think ye know which one we would prefer, Kae also, but either way is fine!
Right so, here are releases for the shop on friday 1st April…
Main week this week is the 15th April, first up we have Universal as they release THE POLICEs “ greatest hits” on double vinyl, its an Abbey road half speed master for improved sound quality, it has been 30 years since this compilation hit the record shop selves.
Fiction/Verve present KURT VILE’S new album “ watch my moves” , his major label debut and it is available on CD, std vinyl, and a limited indies only shop emerald green vinyl…here is “ like exploding stones” from the new record
Bluenote have a reissue of CASSANDRA WILSONs 1993 album “ blue light till dawn” on double LP, Bluenote also reissue GERI ALLEN s “ twenty one” album on Double lp.
The Orchard see the release of a reissue of The Weather Station’s 2014 EP ‘What Am I Going To Do With Everything I Know’, with limited stock for the 15th April….not much else for that date…Sony dont have anything of note really either for the 15th…its a week before the big one ( hopefully) the tide is going way out to sea and the place seems eerily quiet, Tom Waits on the stereo…
Warner for the 15th April have the MIKE CAMPBELL & THE DIRTY KNOBS vinyl release of the second album “ external combustion” on BMG…this was to be out this weekend but moved to the 15th now…good sounding record by TOM PETTYs long standing side kick.
Here is “ electric gypsy” from the new rocker…big Petty feel to it ( understandable so)
PLG UK ( Parlophone) have the vinyl release of the posthumous GERRY RAFFERTY album “ rest in blue” . Gerry had a half finished album when he passed away in 2011 and his daughter got the record finished with the help of heavyweights ( the aforementioned) TOM PETTY and MARK KNOPFLER…the album has a number of new originals as well as some covers. CD came out last year…here is “ slow down” from the album
Going to hand ye over to Shane now for a bit as he runs through nice announcements over the last week…
Sound Ray! Hey everyone! Hope all is well with ye. Nice bit of sun this week, signs of summer which is nice.
4 things caught my eye this week that are worth a mention. First up, the NEIL YOUNG release list keeps going (fair play to him)! He’s releasing 3 Official Live bootleg titles from the early 70s golden years. Live from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion 1971, Live from Royce Hall 1971 and ‘Citizen Kane Jr. Blues (Live from New York City 1974). I think I’ve bought my Dad a new Neil Young CD for Christmas/Birthday etc every year since I’ve been in the shop! These are available on CD and Vinyl. The ‘Young Shakespeare’ live one from last year (I think) was great and was from around that time.
Secondly, one of my favourite bands SLIPKNOT are finally reissuing their debut album on April 22nd. It will be on limited yellow vinyl. A phenomenal album, it’s been out of print for years. Bits of drum n’ bass and rap mixed with metal. One for the maggots!
Finally, a great, fairly new band from Australia AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS are reissuing their album from last year ‘Comfort to Me’ on limited clear ‘smoke’ vinyl. Class modern punk rock. The singer is full of beans. This reissue is an expanded version with a Live album included. Here’s ‘Maggot’ from the live disc.https://youtu.be/spul2mkobmo Limited copies of that, like with Slipknot and Angel.
I think that’s all from me for this week, back to you Ray bud.
Integral for the 22nd of April ( the day before RSD) have one of the biggest of the year with the third album from our very own and one of our favourite bands FONTAINES D.C…” SKINTY FIA” sees the light of day on the 22nd and is hugely anticipated here…available on

Deluxe double LP on 45rpm 180gm black vinyl, housed in a gatefold jacket with printed inner sleeves, alternate cover artwork and 20-page lyric book.

I sent a begging email on the yellows folks but I’m afraid they are goners…sold out…sorry….lucky ducks, early birds who got em!!
Still stock of the deluxe lps and red ones and always the std when they are gone…we will have 20 signed prints to draw out of a hat for those who preorder any format from us and we hope to have even more exciting news re the FONTAINES album to share with ye next weds …top stuff all round!
Here is “ i love you” from the new record…real Peter Hook vibe going here..class
Im going to move seamlessly from one Irish world class band to another…MY BLOODY VALENTINE reissue “ loveless” again thankfully on Domino records. Available to independent retailers on heavyweight 180 gram black vinyl from the fully analogue cut with colour labels in a gatefold sleeve, includes a set of six art prints and a download code.
Back again we are, the RSD orders are well in and in the lap of those great RSD gods……ah sucking up will probably get me nowhere!!
We will as with every other year be in touch with problems/cuts/movers and sometimes even shakers….there was about 15/20 titles from the list of over 400 titles that are either now USA only releases, pulled completely from the schedule or is a brexit problem…overall not to bad though as 95 or more per cent of wishlists were orderable…a few of ye got an email last night letting ye know of probs…sin sin for now on it really…will update on the live music in the shop on the day saturday april 23rd ( we do need a sick cert from your doc if you are not here on the day) in the next few weeks here on the “ AD”.
FONTAINES D.C released their debut album ( i think on the 17th April 2019) the day before record shop day ( i asked Fin and Cal to collect some of it for me from the courier…sound again lads!) and they are releasing the third album again the day before RSD on the 22nd April this year….third single released from the record “ skinty fia” yesterday, self titled single and its another belter…3 in a row, this record could move them to another level around the world, to mega like…here is the latest single …feckin cracking again
Right so releases in the siopa for this Friday the 25th of March….
Main point of attack this week though is the 8th April,
Universal for the 8th of May have the new album from Kae Tempest ( i think she may have dropped the T from her name, ill not sure but tis Kae everywhere now as far as i can see…anyways…new album out via Fiction records called “ the line is a curve” , available on CD, deluxe CD, STD LP and indies only orange LP…sure to be an interesting listen im sure…here is a tune from it “ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tvz_fxrNZ9o
Kae is in Cypress Avenue here at the start of May…would be worth checking out.
UMC have some VAN DER GRAF GENERATOR LP reissues , theres the 50th ann edition of “ the least we can do is wave to each other” as well as “ he to he who am the only one” “ pawns heart” and “ godbluff”.
Lastly Mercury K have the latest film score from JONNY GREENWOOD “ Spencer” OST on cd and lp.
Warner for the 8th April has one of the quietest weeks i’ve seen from them in many a year ( RSD around the corner for all of us anyway. We must get our wallets out, mise included) BMG have the remastered SUICIDE compilation album “ surrender – a collection” as a limited edition 2 LP 140g blood red vinyl housed in an embossed and mirror board gatefold sleeve….Warner also have the new PAPA ROACH album.
Sony for the 8th of April have a new CD by CAMILLA CABELLO “ famila”, and there is a deluxe vinyl format from FOSTER THE PEOPLE “ torches x” and lastly but sold out now ( unless we get lucky and get a copy or two more) is the TOOL “ Fear Inoculum” 5 lp set.
The Orchard for this week sees the release of the fourth studio album from Jack White “Fear Of The Dawn” including an Astronomical Blue Vinyl.
It is also available on cd and std lp.
I read recently where Jack was imploring the major record companies to act in the industry as regards the problems/queues/shortages on the record plants.
Jack feels the majors should get involved and build some plants to help alleviate the pressure and I think he feels it would be a good business move also….from a retailers point of view the prices/delays/cuts/allocations/out of stocks are a constant in our world now. Ill paint a quick picture…we probably there or abouts anyway receive 100 requests a week that go in to our special order book…we check each and everyone of them as thoroughly as we can…if we succeed in securing 30 of them a week we have done well…70 folks receive an email saying sorry this record is not in stock at the moment but we can keep you on file type of thing…in most cases we cant find out whether it is planned to be repressed or not…thats 70 emails to the reps asking can you find out when Boards of Canada “ music has the right to children” will be repressed please…they cant or wont respond…the volumes of emails some of them get is frightening…4 a minute the integral rep told me, he has 300 shops to look after, balls are gonna be dropped, the industry , physical part of it, needs to try and improve communication with the retailers…concrete info is key…anyways , all industries have challenges, these are ours at the moment…the majors getting involved would help, for sure your right there Jack kid.
His own new record is out on the 8th April.
Check out the video for Jack White’s “Fear Of The Dawn” HERE.
Proper for the ( sorry just got word Sony from April 1 are increasing the price of their vinyl cat and new releases by anywhere from between 15 to 40% depending….not great again, but in fairness they were the last to move still no great consolation in it for any of us…bottom line, ye guys will buy less and we will sell less….invest the depths of their pockets in a sustainable future as Jack suggested or increase the price…anyways, i must watch me blood pressure)
Going to hand ye over the Shane man now as he will take ye through further down the line releases and announcements…
Sound Ray, cheers!
Howdy everyone, hope yere all well and had a nice Paddy’s Day break. Some biggish ones to tell ye about this week. First up is a nice reissue of Pink Floyd’s second album ‘Saucerful of Secrets‘ coming at the end of April. It’s a Mono master of the album, similar to the last one ‘Piper at the Gates of Dawn’. This is the first album to feature David Gilmour and the last with Syd Barrett. It’s a good price as well at €22 which is always good!
Then at the start of May, ARCADE FIRE will be releasing their brand new album ‘WE’ on a few formats. Good few years since their last one I think. Good band. The cover is cool on this one. We will have the limited white vinyl of it! Here is the single ‘The Lightning 1,2’ from it
On the 15th of July, indie-electronic band WORKING MEN’S CLUB will be releasing a new album. Their second I think, called ‘Fear Fear’..I like their sound, their first one was good and there was a fair bit of interest in the shop in it. We will have very limited quantities of the pink vinyl of this, so definitely a ‘fastest finger first’ one at the above link.
Finally, a good bit away on August 26th, MUSE will release their new album ‘The Will of the People’. We like them in the shop. Matt Bellamy is a seriously talented dude! Available on a few formats with us.
Think that’s all this week from me. Back to you Ray, cheers!
I get asked all the time about the BOB man and we were chatting last week and he is in flying form, enjoying life in the big city ( expensive though) he had a couple of nice interviews last week with a few record companies in London town so hopefully he will catch a start with one of them…he would be a perfect fit, they just need to realize it, he would be a great asset….when Bob becomes the bossman of one of those companies in a few years…he’ll drop the prices in the rebel county i’m sure!!
Right last bit of the “ ad” tonight is INTEGRAL for the 15th April which has the new KING GIZZARD album “ made in timeland” as limited coloured vinyl and std vinyl on KGLW records…no CD of this one im afraid, this album interestingly enough will not appear on any digital platforms anywhere. LPs housed in a brown paper bag , coloured vinyl edition is an eco mix of recycled coloured vinyl.
Quick update on RSD lists…we still don’t have the Universal list with pricing so will be next week im afraid before we can send that out…sorry….there will be an extra week to get wishlists back to us for the universal stuff but i do need most of the others by midnight next weds the 9th of March please.
Shane will send them all here again…including a few extra ones from Little Amber Fish, SRD and Shellshock…so would appreciate any wish lists from these in the next week…sound out!!
Here are last week’s ones and Shane will have the extra ones down further:
Main focus of attack this week is the 18th March…so UNIVERSAL for the 18th March, releases flaky enough lately to be honest, but sher drive on…UNI anyway have the brand new album by SAM TOMPKINS on Island and is on CD or theres an indies only yellow vinyl also, there is 50th anniversary of FRANK ZAPPA “ the mothers 1971”. “ The Zappa Trust has compiled a massive box set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Mothers Of Invention’s 1971 line-ups. Featured are the complete Fillmore East tapes, showcasing every note played over 2 nights in 4 shows during the closing of the famous venue in NYC, including the John Lennon and Yoko Ono encore, unedited with majority of the tracks being newly mixed from scratch by Craig Parker Adams and mastered by John Polito. Also included is the complete concert from the final show at the Rainbow Theatre in London, England where FZ was infamously pushed off the stage, resulting in injuries, the cancellation of the rest of the tour and ultimately the band. This historical Rainbow show is newly mixed by legend Eddie Kramer and mastered by Bernie Grundman. The box also features a bonus hybrid concert from Harrisburg and Scranton, PA 1971; original singles, album ads, a 68-page booklet showcasing an interview with Ian Underwood by Ahmet Zappa and liner notes from Eddie Kramer, Jim Pons (FZ’s then bass player) and Vaultmeister Joe Travers. VERY LIMITED EDITION.
There are bluenote vinyl reissues also for the 18th March, “Vibraphonist Milt Jackson was a frequent presence on Blue Note sessions in the bebop era. As part of the fabled 1500 Series begun in 1956, the label issued the 12” compilation Milt Jackson and The Thelonious Monk Quintet which expanded Jackson’s 10” LP Wizard of the Vibes with tracks from 1948 and 1951 dates led by Monk. The album cover was the first designed by Reid Miles.
This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
Bluenote also reissue The 4th volume of The Amazing Bud Powell series recorded in 1958 found the brilliant bebop piano master in particularly fine form on an ebullient set of his original tunes including “Buster Rides Again,” “Monopoly,” and “John’s Abbey.” Powell’s inventive solo flights shine in a trio setting with Sam Jones on bass and ‘Philly’ Joe Jones on drums.

Re the mask thing…masks are up to yourself now and thats where we sit with it…if you want to wear a mask, wear a mask, if you don’t want to wear a mask, don’t wear a mask…if you don’t want to wear socks , don’t wear socks or wear a hat if you want….we may or may not wear masks and we don’t care what you choose either…we will have 15/20% on either end saying in different tones “ rays not wearing a mask” “ or “ rays wearing a f**king mask” …..truth be told, its up to you and i dont give a siucra.
Sony for the 18th of March have the PEARL JAM “ rearview mirror greatest hits” across 2 separate double lps…volume one and volume two….there is a TOOL “ opiate” bluray which i have very little info on…there is a note next to it saying “ extremely limited” , so i’m not going to promise on this but if interested let us know and we will do our best.
Lastly from Sony for the 18th March is a BONEY M compilation double lp on coloured called “ the magic of”.
Also, there was a price change on the John Murry RSD release that is out through The Orchard, it’s now €37.
A few very limited and interesting ones to mention this week. First up are two indie groups that started in the mid 2000s. BLOC PARTY have a brand new album coming called ‘Alpha Games’. It will be out at the end of April. Theirfirst e the indies red vinyl of that. The month after that then, FOALS will be releasing their new one. It’s called ‘Life is Yours’, a nice positive title. “This edition features five additional songs from Bon Iver’s beautiful AIR Studios session, which captures the grand spirit of ‘Bon Iver, Bon Iver’ and distils it into sharper focus, as Justin Vernon and Sean Carey perform the songs as a duo, on grand pianos and vocals only.”
‘Bon Iver, Bon Iver (10th Anniversary Edition)’ features a blind embossed version of the original cover art and an intimate personal essay from long-time fan Phoebe Bridgers.

Sin e really for this week…
Just got word from Little amber fish that they need their RSD LISTS by the 4th march so if you are mad keen for something from them please wishlist it asap please.
Tonight , we will ( well truth be told, Shane will,) send out some record company lists for the day RECORD STORE DAY Saturday April 23rd with prices to give you a better idea….tonight we will send Integral/Pias, Sony, Orchard, Proper, Shellshock, SRD and Cargo…we haven’t received pricing from Warner, Uni , LITTLE AMBER FISH, RoM yet as well as a few smaller companies as well…Warner is due so should make this newsletter.
Will hopefully send Universal and anyone else next week.
We are asking for your help here as regards the wishlist…most of ye know the drill but if this is new to anyone…this spiel is for ye… a wishlisted record is a record you would hope to get on the day…you are greatly helping us by sending back any wishlist you may have as it allows us to fight harder for stock we need and also if its a rather obscure record it makes sure it is ordered in …unfortunately we cant guarantee you will get your record but most people who wishlist us end up been happy ….so critically a wishlist is not a guarantee but we will do our best to secure enough stock to cover the wishlists…thats the hope anyway!
I need wishlists back by close of play weds the 9th of March…that is only 2 weeks away….some record companies need the orders back to them on the 10th of March …so the full list is above and here Shane will do some magic to get out some record companies RSD lists with pricing here:
A lot always gets said about Record Store Day, some positives, some negatives…its a game of opinions folks…there was an article by a record shop owner in England doing the rounds where he felt a year off from it would maybe allow the plants catch up and allow smaller labels and artists to get their records pressed, he also argues about the curation of the stock for the day …a bit more merit to his second point for me…re the first point though, big or small to my knowledge,( i have asked some local artists who do vinyl runs), you have to book your slot at the plant, it is 6 to 9 months lead time to get a record pressed at the moment..it used be 12 weeks….canceling RSD for the year won’t solve that problem…alleviate it slightly, fair enough, but that’s all ….there are probably 100 records a week sold to me if not more, we cherry pick what we stock or think we can sell…so its 4 weeks worth of records sold to us in one week…..its not clogging up the plants completely….increase capacity is the only thing that will properly alleviate the queues but that’s a risky venture and an expensive one also…but cancel RSD over the supply chain and queues at plants , i would think that’s very extreme…the day was set up to help record shops and we sell more records on that day than any other day in the year…probably times 2 or 3…i would regard it so highly and so important in our year…the man who wrote the article says the job of the record shop in its simplest terms is to sell records…so let us sell them i say…game of opinions folks.
Also there is a second smaller release day for RSD on the 18th June which are for the releases that won’t make the starting post for the main event on Saturday the 23rd April…wishlists appreciated folks!!
Terrible sad news overnight with the passing of MARK LANEGAN at just 57 years of age…an amazing life he led, packed more into it than most would in 10 lifetimes, what a legacy he left, what a voice, alas still too young to go…very sad…here is “ resurrection song” from him….rest in peace Mark

Sound Ray! Hey all! Hope ye’re all keeping well. Sad news about Mark Lanegan, a huge loss. I saw him supporting Guns n Roses in Slane a few years back, he was quality.
A few bits of interest again this week:
First up, one biggie, well two, the latest Daft Punk reissues! ‘Homework‘ and ‘Alive 1997‘. They’ve been out of print for a while and sought after, so great to have them reissued now. They’re coming through Warner on April 15th.
Secondly, one of my favourites, IRON MAIDEN, will be releasing a commemorative cassette of their classic album ‘Number of the Beast‘. Yes, a cassette. They haven’t taken off at all like vinyl but definitely collectors will have an interest! Out March 18th.
Next, Seattle lads PEARL JAM will be releasing the two volumes of their greatest hits on vinyl!
On the Irish front, 2 very interesting releases. Firstly, alt/noise rock band, JUST MUSTARD will be releasing their second album at the end of May, here’s the new single, ‘Still’ from the album https://youtu.be/fibUUapxQt4 Sounds class!
Also, Limerick-born, London-based, SINÉAD O BRIEN will be releasing a new album on June 10th. Here’s a song from it https://youtu.be/K4_vsiz1isc I like the strong accent! She writes poetry as well and has been published in London.
Oh, before I go, here’s last week’s Youtube video from Ray and Adam: https://youtu.be/1wH9rWs14VE Give a like and subscribe on there if you can! Cheers!
Few nice little interesting bits landed into the shop in the last week which I may not have mentioned before now. We are delighted to get some copies of the new ARRIVALISTS album on CD …beautifully packaged CD to be fair, full of beautiful songs…” last of the written words “ it is called.
.i think i may have forgot to plug the Cargo releases for the 18th last week with all my excitement in giving out about spotify…i won’t go there again for fear of more abuse..( im serious !) so Cargo for the 18th Feb have the new album by ANDY BELL “ flicker” as CD or limited clear vinyl, there is a ROLLING STONES “live in london and detroit 1969” tv and radio broadcasts on Rhythm and blues records and there are 2 JOHN FRUSCIANTE LP reissues of “ the empyrean “ and “ curtains” …Shane will have more on Frusciante later…oh yes indeedy…KANYE’s – my dark twisted lp is finally going to be back in stock thursday if anyone interested.
Right so , moving onto the releases for the 25th of Feb…Warner have the new JOHNNY MARR album on BMG/ADA called “ fever dreams pts 1 to 4” …it comprises a few eps released last year…i really like Johnny’s three solo albums to be honest, all good …this one is available as CD, std black vinyl as well as a limited turquoise vinyl…we were allocated 16 copies of this version so fine for now but wont last long either…here is “ lightning people” from the new record
Warner also for the 25th Feb have a brand new SOFT CELL album on BMG also…” happiness not included” …good title…MARC ALMOND and DAVE BALL return with their 5th studio album and first album in 20 years! This one is available on CD and LP..an indies only yellow vinyl version…here is “ heart like chernobyl” from the new album.
UNIVERSAL for the 25th of Feb have a brand new album from TEARS FOR FEARS on Concord…” tipping point” is the title and it is available on a few formats, CD, deluxe CD, std vinyl and a limited indies only green vinyl…fine band in their day and this is their first studio album in nearly 20 years also…here is the title track for the album
Another interesting release from Concord on the 25th of Feb is the new ROBERT GLASPER album “ black radio 3” …CD and LP available on this one from the four time grammy winner..a mish mash of hip hop, R&B and Jazz …quality stuff…here is black superhero from the new album
UMC have a reissue of YUSEF/CAT STEVENS “ teaser & the firecat” and there is a CURTIS STIGERS release on cd and lp..compilation type of thing.
Sony for the 25th of Feb has a debut album by Londoner BAKAR on black butter records…its available on cd. Lp and an indies only white version also…could be hearing a lot more from him i think in years to come…here is the 1st time from the debut record
Lots of talk/articles online about “the cd revival”…it never needed to be revived from where we sit, granted we do more vinyl but we do sell nice levels on cd as well…generally on the new releases to be fair…back catalogue is slow to be fair ( our customers have the back catologue already!!) …in the uk in 2021 physical music was up 7.3% on 2020…the first growth in physical music in nearly 20 years…see the cd was in decline year after year…CD sales increased by nearly 2% last year for again the first time in 20 years…vinyl grew once more by over 20% in the uk to 135 million pounds…is there a stabilization of the physical formats? We hope so obviously!…streaming has the bulk of the revenue with 85% of the market and downloads fell again by 27% …back to the CD…if you are an up and coming band /artist ( in my opinion) you have to produce a cd..ideally vinyl also..tee shirts, mugs, lyric books, hats, sandals..anything else you can sell from your merch table after a small show…you will sell them…bands that don’t produce a CD are nuts in my opinion…why not ? cost of making them is low and they will sell…why not make them…it makes no sense …and we saw it in the last few years that some bands/artists were not releasing their albums on CD…mistake in my opinion, you should be….CD sales were probably helped along last year by the trouble with stocking vinyl and also the price difference between the two formats…sometimes a CD is a third of the price of the lp…thats mad as well…look from where things were for the physical record shops 10/12 years ago…its great to see growth again…there was a cull of record shops back then when probably only 20% of shops survived…over 200 here in 2005 and down to 40 by 2013..UK similar…over 2000 down to less than 300 shops in 2012…last shop standing was really a thing…fingernails stuff i remember it well, running on fumes..not enjoyable…so look hopefully a period of stability ahead for us record shops with lots of cds and lps selling and a few cassettes throw in !!
Going to hand over to Shane now as he tells ye about some interesting further down the line releases …
Sound Ray, cheers!
Hey everyone! Hope ye’re all getting on ok! Definitely some interesting ones to mention this week. Biggies as well. First up is the third album by Australian band Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. They’ve a really good summery indie sound. We all enjoyed their last two in the shop. Lots of good stuff coming from Australia in recent years. This one is called ‘Endless Rooms’ and it’s out on the 6th of May. We were only allocated a small amount of the indies yellow coloured vinyl… so as Bob and Ray say, ‘fastest fingers first’ for them here Best to order straight from the link there if interested as emails might be missed over night/until morning.
Second up is the brand new album by RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS called ‘Unlimited Love’. It’s going to be released on April 1st. First album back with legendary guitar player John Frusciante since ‘Stadium Arcadium’ I think in the 06/07 season. They released the first single from it a few days ago and John’s playing/sound is recognizable straight away…here tis https://youtu.be/OS8taasZl8k He’s a lucky boy to be alive, like a lot of musicians down the years. Great to see him back. We will have the indies coloured version plus other formats!
Thirdly, and another biggie, LIAM GALLAGHER‘s new solo record is coming on May 27th. ‘C’mon You Know’ it’s called. Liam has been doing well in the last few years.
and finally, two quick mentions. There’s a nice Hip-Hop compilation coming on March 18th, not too far away, with loads of big names included. It’s on limited coloured vinyl from Music on Vinyl.
Right Integral for the 25th feb were to have the new SPIRITUALIZED album but its now moved to April…it turned into a dogs dinner for us as we thought we were allocated 4 copies of deluxe vers and 4 of jap vers …only to be told this week just 1 copy of each now…had to disappoint 6 people…not finding a record when someone buys it off the site and overselling are two parts of the job that bug the hell out of me…the missing record is one of those things, human error somewhere, it will happen, apologise and move on…its an error….but the overselling does my head in…give us a firm allocation, be it 1 but dont say 10 and then its 2…it leaves us exposed and you cant blame folk for being pissed off…anyway spiritualized was a dogs dinner as was slash cd boxset..sorry again to those affected.
PROPER for the 25th feb have a brand new BETH HART release on Provogue “ a tribute to Led Zeppelin” on cd, std 2lp and indies only orange 2lp…some undertaking!!
Here is “ good times, bad times” from the album…they make a fine fist of it in fairness
Proper also have a brand new TANGERINE DREAM album as well as the new HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT CD.
INTEGRAL for the 4th March have a reissue on London records of BRONSKI BEATS “ age of consent” , there is a brand new album from PORCHES on Domino called “ all day gentle hold!” and SOUL JAZZ records have a couple of nice releases…STUDIO ONE DUB gets reissued for the first time in 18 years ..available as an orange coloured CD and as a strictly one press only on 2lp orange vinyl with download code…lastly SOUL JAZZ reissue THE WINSTONS “ color him father” on LP and a one sided 12”…” amen brother” a track on the album is the most sampled drum break of all time..over 5000 samples…THE WINSTONS were made up from the backing bands of Otis Redding and Curtis Mayfield ( say no more nearly Raymond) and only released this one album before splitting up ( citing difficulties in america with touring due to their inter racial line up)….this lp has not been out for over 50 years and now soul jazz are putting it out…one press only again…here is “ amen brother” from THE WINSTONS
Well a week when the Canadians tried to put some manners on Spotify…ill be honest, i was hoping it was going to snowball…they need manners put on them, be it for whatever rubbish they allow to be spouted from their platform or more importantly for me is the remuneration policy they have for musicians plays…top 1 per cent make dosh, most of the rest get a cup of coffee a year at best id say….i’d love a look under their financial hood to see how profitable they are…there was a new streaming platform launched out of Ireland in the past few weeks ( MINM) who claim to give artists a very fair remuneration…did i read 50% per cent of revenue…time will tell but i do believe there is a huge appetite to support artists/creators properly so hopefully the wheels of change will slowly start turning.
Right so onto Friday the 18th Feb…Warner have the vinyl release of the new DAVID CROSBY album “ for free” …CD came out last year…this is a really good listen in my opinion…i like Croz, he seems like a great character…there’s a really good rockumentary on Netflix called “ echos of the canyon” with Jakob Dylan as the chief character which has lots about the mid 60s in Laurel Canyon with THE BEACH BOYS, THE BYRDS, BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD, THE MAMAS & PAPAS etc etc…Croz is interviewed a few times in it…he says “… “do you know why i was kicked out of the byrds?” to Dylan…” do you know why I was kicked out of the byrds?” and he looks straight into the camera and says “ because i was an asshole”…ah sher gotta love that Croz… here is Jakob with Jade Castrinos doing a mamas and papas cover…quality stuff altogether…what a voice she has
Jays i do gets sidetracked…meandering around the gaff…Crozs new lp is out via BMG on the 18th Feb and there is an indies only version available also.
ADA/BLIX have a deluxe audiophile 45 RPM reissue of EVA CASSIDYS seminal album “ songbird”, there is a new album by FORENZICS…Forenzics is an exciting new project from former Split Enz members Eddie Rayner and Tim Finn.
The project saw two artistic endeavours meet in the middle and started when Eddie and Tim had been revisiting some of their favorite sections from lesser-known Split Enz works, using them as inspiration and the basis for new songs.
HURRAY FOR THE RIFF RAFF aka Alynda Segarra has signed to Nonesuch records and releases a brand new album with them…11 new songs….” life on earth” it is called and will be available on CD or LP…here is a track from the new album…” pierced arrows”
Parlophone issue a stereo remix of MARILLIONS second album “ Fugazi” on cd or lp, there is a YOKO ONO tribute album on Atlantic, some serious people on the recording, PINK FLOYDs P.U.L.S.E restored and reedited bluray and dvd formats will be joining us on the 18th feb also, ,,,first time on bluray for this one, what a show…these versions for initial orders also have the iconic flashing light ala the original albums back in the day…95 was it maybe 94…and lastly from Warner for the 18th feb is a LP reissue of ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN compilation album “ SONGS TO LEARN AND SING” .
Universal for the 18th of Feb have the brand new METRONOMY album “ small world” on because music…it is their 7th studio album…there is a ltd transparent vinyl available.
There are a couple of nice bluenote lp reissues out via Uni on the 18th…JOE HENDERSON “ inner urge” and LEE MORGAN “ caramba” ..2 nice ones.
Sony have a quiet 18th feb…maybe jazz vocalist JUDI JACKSON debut album is worth a spin.
Sad news yesterday when i read that Isaac Wood was stepping away from his band BLACK COUNTRY NEW ROAD…here is what he said ““I have bad news which is that I have been feeling sad and afraid too. And I have tried to make this not true but it is the kind of sad and afraid feeling that makes it hard to play guitar and sing at the same time”
You have to wish the young man so well and hope he can find peace and contentment.
The Orchard for the 18th have a new JOSS STONE CD “ never forget my love” , Orchard also have the release of Bobby Weir And The Wolf Bros on Third Man with a Limited Opaque Jade & Gold Vinyl as well as CD.

Right going to hand ye over to Shaney boy who will run through a few down the road releases for ye now…
Sound Ray! Hey all! Hope all is good with ye! Second week on newsletter duties now with the gaffer, getting into the swing of it a bit more. Lots of releases but sure that’s good. That was one of the positives from the lockdowns, the releases kept coming and kept us all somewhat sane!
So, a few interesting ones coming in the next few weeks and months that we have up for ‘pre-order’… Firstly, Placebo have a brand new album coming out March 25th. Good band! Their first in years. Here’s the first single from it: https://youtu.be/KudGpbfWYrI
Then there’s a compilation by Tindersticks, ‘The Past Imperfect: Best Of ’92-21 on a few formats. Also out on March 25th. I haven’t listened to much of their earlier stuff but the last few albums were big favourites in the shop.
Electronic pioneers KRAFTWERK have an album of remixes coming out too. Some big names involved including William Orbit and Hot Chip! That’s out on March 25th as well.
