Signed Inhaler Vinyl And James Vincent McMorrow Prints, 2

Hi everyone,
Hope all is well enough…

Last day of June, half the year done already!! Firstly I would like to really thank those of ye who came out for the SAINT SISTER out-store last Saturday… I thought there was a lovely vibe around the place.. The band were sound as a bell and enjoyed it.. So thanks again to those of ye came out and kept egg off our faces.. No-one shows then they cease to exist and we don’t want that..

So moving on from one class original Irish act to another… INHALER.. I’m getting slightly obsessed with quite a few of their tunes.. Constant repeats the last week.. 7 and a half days ago I didn’t know what they sounded like.. Constant now… I can’t wait for the record.. We have a nice one as regards it folks.. There is an indies only green vinyl for the Irish Market only (sure to be sought after down the road), and we will have quite a few of these signed by the band (say no more!!).. Pre-order the green vinyl version with us and be in with a chance of a signed copy.. My guess 2 in ever 3 people will get a signed copy.. The INHALER album also available on Standard Black Vinyl and the CD now is going for €10… I can’t wait to hear it in full.. 9 Days count down on..

Here are the new releases for this Friday July 2nd including releases from THE GO! TEAMBOBBY GILLESPIE & JEHNNY BETHLAURA MVULAMR JUKES & BARNEY ARTIST, EMERSON, LAKE & PALMERAT THE GATESEMMA-JEAN THACKRAY and the soundtrack to ‘Annette’ by SPARKS.. There are reissues from BIG COUNTRY, and CHRISTINE PERFECT.. On the CD front there are releases from TOM PETTY, and a reissue of QUEEN’s ‘Greatest Hits’ on CD or Cassette

And moving onto releases for the 9th of July.. As mentioned INHALER’s debut album is out, and there are other new releases from TOM ODELLTHE WALLFLOWERSLUCINDA WILLIAMS and a ALDOUS HARDING new 7′‘.. Hey folks,
Hope you are all keeping safe and well, and enjoying the sunshine.
Not a huge amount today but a few very nice ones nonetheless.
We’ll kick off with a few more games of fastest fingers first, with a few bits we have been given allocations on.
Starting off, we now have up the brand new album from Dessner / Vernon (National / Bon Iver) supergroup BIG RED MACHINE, the band’s second outing, due out August 27th. ‘How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?’ it’s called, and it’s coming on CDCassette, Standard Black Vinyl and Indies Only Vinyl. BOTH the vinyl pressings are allocated numbers, not just the indies on this one, but we have a few now up for pre-order. Safest is to buy from the site, as Ray mentioned earlier there will be no one on emails for a few hours after this is sent out, and an email could be missed.

The second and last of this week of the fastest fingers first is the brand new studio album by the excellent LOW… ‘HEY WHAT’ is the title of the new album due out September 10th, and it is just the indies vinyl of this which we were allocated a number on.. Also available on CDCassette, and Standard Vinyl..

Other nice bits announced in the last week or so include the next in the JONI MITCHELL Archives Series via Warner. Due in October, we will have the new 5CD ‘Archives Vol 2 : The Reprise Years 1968-1971’, which spans the era around the release of ‘Blue’ and just before, to mark the album’s  50th Anniversary this year.. There will also be a ‘Live From Carnegie Hall 1969’ 3LP vinyl release to coincide with the release of the CD Set. Lovely stuff!

There is a remix album coming of ‘Mordechai’ by KHRUANGBIN on vinyl due in October which is now up on the site. This was my album of the year last year so looking forward to hearing the remixes. If you haven’t heard these guys well worth checking out, class stuff altogether. We will also have a limited run of the excellent 4th, self titled album from THE CHARLATANS, which is repressed on vinyl now for the first time in 20 years. It’ll be out in October and is pressed on Marbled Yellow Vinyl. (Again allocated on this so when it’s gone it’s gone i’m afraid). The ‘ARETHA’ compilation from ARETHA FRANKLIN which was due in to us originally last year has also now been confirmed for release on CDVinyl or Limited 4CD Set for July 30th..

Lastly from mise for this week, and one we can’t wait for in the siopa. MICK FLANNERY & SUSAN O’NEILL are set to release their debut collaboration album ‘In The Game’ in September of this year.  ‘Baby Talk’ the single from last year has been a firm favourite of the shop, a great tune, so looking forward to hearing the 13-track full album a lot! It’ll be with us on Vinyl or CD. Check out the latest single ‘Chain Reaction’ here :

RSD Week Is Upon Us! New Saint Sister and Orla Gartland, and a Buena Vista Social Club 25th Anniversary

Hi everyone,
Hope all is well.. Big newsletter this evening.. RSD Newsletter… Where do I start?? Well it’s on this Saturday the 12th of June is as good a place as any to start.. Where Raymond?? Out in the good shuttle musiczone.ie in Deanrock in To(u)her and importantly from 6PM on the aul’ website.. Cén t-am Raymond?? The siopa will open at 8AM Saturday morning but we can only leave 4 or 5 in at a time (as we obviously can’t flood the shop).. (No pun intended there).. We would ask folk to try get in and out in 10/15 minutes as others are waiting outside… Myself, Bob & Shane are on site to help ye get sorted… We will try make it as smooth as possible… So Saturday at 8AM in the shop, and then online from 6PM..

What about the stock Raymond?? Here is the fun part.. Loads landed safe and good I reckon 80%… But delays a plenty.. I’ll try my best here to update but with 500 seasons in one day, Brexit, it is a bit all over the shop.. Here are some titles that are tight on stock to start with.. Amy Winehouse Remixes,, Haim 7”, Arianna Live, Def Leppard Live, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Robert Plant, Status Quo, Tears for Fears, War Child Help EP, Belle & Sebastian, Shame, Mogwai, Freddie Gibbs, Stooges, Toots, Echo and the Bunnymen, Ocean Colour Scene, Prince… (Ash is moved to Drop 2, as is Stones ‘Hot Rocks’ and numerous other small releases..

There are quite a few titles that have not shipped yet (Wednesday!!) that are still supposed to be here for Drop 1 like Amy Winehouse, Mark Lanegan, Rage Against The Machine, Prince, Belly, Elastica, Tune-Yards, Add N To X.. The Reps think / hope they will be here by Saturday..

The Orchard let us down for titles again this year and they don’t know how it happened.. They uploaded our order on the day I sent it to them (30th April) confirmed to me that they received the order but then it disappeared.. The Russians??.. MI5, CIA could all be involved.. Anyway was on it early enough to save some but we will be getting no stock of Tom Tom Club, Richard Hell or The Sword and a few small bits.. Motley Crue gone to July Drop 2…

Plastichead (a big problem pre-Brexit.. worse since) have let us down and every shop in the UK as well from what I can gather, so sorry to say but there will not be RSD releases with us for Elvis – Cafe, Elvis – Mad Prof, Howard Jones 12”, Iggy Pop – Channel Boston… Four nice titles but sorry not going to happen for us and believe me did we try… Painful stuff.. Sorry.. Forewarned is forearmed.. Great craic this isn’t it… That’s a lot of the bad / iffy news.. Plenty of good news… Sorry just got the news that these are now Drop 2 : Beastie Boys, Yusuf, Don Davis & John Martin..

On to the better news!! Done well on the Fontaines release and I think the Wolf Alice new album and RSD are landing sometime later this week..

So I suppose if an album isn’t mentioned in the iffy pages then it should be good… I suppose most folks support the shop for what it is on the day.. A celebration of local record shops (We are one of them)… Rest assured we have done what we can do to try and secure every record wish listed and succeeded in 80 to 90% of cases.. Hope to see Saturday either in person or online… If emailing me over the coming days I will try get you an answer and I apologise if my reply is brief!!

Joni Mitchell ‘Reprise Albums (1968-1971)’ Box Sets, A Much Anticipated Debut Record 1

Hi everyone,
Hope ye’r all well and the form is good.. Another day in the warehouse… Could be worse.. I’m always grumbling lately (cabin fever i’d say) but really hoping we can call & collect in a few weeks time.. Anyways, could be worse says the cranky man..

RSD.. Record Store Day Drop 1 is happening on the 12th of June and Drop 2 is on the 17th of July.. I will run through some guidelines / rules in case ye’r new to it all.. Some of ye have read this about 10 times before… It is our 10th year involved in RSD now.. It was conceived in 2007 I think, 2012 was our first venture and we have had some mighty days in-between filled with wine, song, wine and even more songs, not too mention a few few records moving out the dóras.. It has a few flaws (RSD) but for the good siopa it is a special and important day… Don’t know what the situation will be by the 12th of June but I do know I need to place my orders by noon on April 30th, so I need wishlists in by 6PM on Wednesday the 28th of April please..

Right so, I can’t keep anything for anyone.. I can’t hold anything for anyone.. You can’t pre-order it.. Basically I can’t guarantee anything (tis against the rules).. I can’t sell 2 of the same record to the one human being or the one human being and his feline either for that matter…

But if you are interest in something(s) then it would be great if you emailed in a wishlist of what you hope for and by doing that it allows me to fight for more of a certain record than maybe another.. By sending the wishlist you have a much greater chance of securing the record… I will also communicate problems / allocations / etc to the folks that wish list.. So if for example I have 6 folks wish lists for a record and i’m only getting 3 copies, then I will email ye and tell ye that at least 6 are looking and we only got 3, so set the alarm i’d say.. Wishlist is good and NB from our end… So don’t be afraid of it folks!! You’ll be dead long enough and sher what else do ye have to spend yer dollars on!! We still only have pricing on about half the releases but Bobby will send what we have under here and send the rest next week.. 28th April deadline so 2 weeks.. We have all the pricing by next week I hope.. Here are the lists we have so far..
PROPER – RSD 2021 LIST WITH PRICING
THE ORCHARD – RSD 2021 LIST WITH PRICING
CARGO – RSD 2021 LIST WITH PRICING
SRD – RSD 2021 LIST WITH PRICING

Right so sin sin for RSD for this week.. Although no Bowie, no Bowie the forgotten man of music, the people just don’t get him??? Or will there be a grand late entrance I wonder??

Right anyway to release for this Friday the 16th of April we have LONDON GRAMMARGRETA VAN FLEETLUCINDA WILLIAMSTOM PETTYAVISHAI COHENTHE NETWORKMARTY FRIEDMANAJ TRACEYSAINT RAYMONDCANNIBAL CORPSETEENAGE FANCLUB 7”DREAM WIFETHE OFFSPRINGNORAH JONESERIC CHURCHSPORTS TEAM and the ONE NIGHT MIAMI OST. There are reissues by THERAPY?ALEX SOMERSGOLDIE, WILLIE NELSON, THE NIGHTINGALESFUTURE SOUND OF LONDONEVEANNE BRIGGSBERT JANSCH, and finally there will be CD releases from EMPEROR OF ICECREAMJETHRO TULL, and MELODY GARDOT..

Limited release edition of only 200 copies of this and it is a compilation of the first 3 EPs from the 93/94 period.. Lockdown has thrown a few nice surprises our ways also and Emperors music is one of those surprises.. You will notice price increases on some Universal vinyl over the next few weeks and months.. Horrible price increases in the region of 30, 40 and 50% increases.. I will have more on this in the coming weeks but it ain’t pretty.. (I have a lot to say on it but for another time.. I’m not sure how many industries would drop those kind of increases on their customer and think it’s cool).. Records in March that cost me 12 Euro plus VAT… Some of them are now costing me 18 Euro plus VAT.. As I said I have a lot to say on it but for another day..

Warner for the 30th of April have the GARY MOORE unnreleased songs album ‘How Blue Can You Get’ on Provogue.. There is a new GOJIRA album on Roadrunner, brand new BIRDY album ‘Young Heart’ also.. Here is ‘Surrender’ from it, it is out on East/West Records..

Hey folks,
Few nice bits on the site for this week.
Starting off there is a lovely JONI MITCHELL box set coming in June, called ‘The Reprise Albums (1968-1971). It is released as a 4CD or 4LP Box Set, and is released to mark the 50th Anniversary of the classic album ‘Blue’, which has been out of print for the last 6-12 months on vinyl. It features remaster versions of ‘Blue’, and the three excellent previous albums ‘Song To A Seagull’, ‘Clouds’, and ‘Ladies of the Canyon’.

Also announced on the box set front is the next in the BLACK SABBATH ‘Super Deluxe’ Series, this time with 1975’s ‘Sabotage’. It is coming as a 4CD set, or a 4LP & 7” set. It has the original album remaster, a full live show from 1975, and a Japanese Radio Show single.

There is a new 12” Picture Disc Vinyl reissue of BOWIE’s ‘The Man Who Sold The World’ just announced for release on May 28th, looks class!

Again, we apologise but only allocated 2 copies of the Indies Only LP, so again fastest fingers first on this release. There is also a new album announced by THE WALLFLOWERS. Again allocated only 5 of the Indies Purple LP, so also a game of fastest fingers first. Lastly from mise, there is a new VIOLENT FEMMES compilation record announced ‘Add It Up (1981-1993), which is released on standard vinyl or indies only purple vinyl, and a new album announced by RAG N’ BONE MAN due in May.

Thanks everyone, back to the boss-man!

PIAS for the 7th of May have the much anticipated debut album by SQUID (big things afoot here i’d say).. It’s on Warp and it is called ‘Bright Green Field’, released on CD, 2LP, Indies Only Green 2LP and red cassette in a clear box… Here is ‘Narrator’ from the album..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__zmVSREvxY

These lads have had plenty of songs on EPs etc before now but not one of these songs on the debut album.. All new… They keep it interesting.. Check out ‘Paddling’ the second single
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xvisyj5CJg4

PIAS also have IRON & WINE’s lost debut album ‘Archive Series Vol. 5 : Tallahassee Recordings’.. CD or Indies Only Yellow Splatter Vinyl on this one.. The next in the PETER MURPHY reissue coloured vinyl series are out the 7th of May also..

Hi everyone,
Hope ye are all safe and well and in good enough form… Keep at it.. Not so hopeful of call/click and collect now for April 5th to be honest, but let’s see where the ball breaks i suppose first… I sense fatigue with out customers and it is damaging for a small business when folks asks for call and collect and we say we can’t… Sorry… And we lose the sale.. But we have always followed guidelines / laws / instructions on it and will continue to do so.. Let’s see where the ball bounces sher, 24 deaths I think yesterday, horrible curse of a thing.. Website open and we are on the phone everyday 021-4967119.. Sin sin with that for now…

Right so here are the releases for Friday March 26th… There is the new NEIL YOUNG with the live ‘Young Shakespeare’ release, BEN HOWARD, CATHAL COUGHLAN, FOR THOSE I LOVE, EVANESCENSEFIRST AID KIT, THE ANTLERS, MAX RICHTER, DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979, SNOWPOETFLOATING POINTS / PHAROAH SANDERS & THE LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, SARA WATKINS, DUA LIPAMARTI PELLOW, SMITH / KOTZEN, LAMB OF GOD, TUNE-YARDS, and the new JOE STRUMMER collection .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93yZZjGqk_s

Maybe it’s my green, white and gold tinted glasses but I think there is some savage talent on the Irish Music Scene.. If you have a spare 50 minutes some night Coughlan’s Live Music Venue recorded some of their intimate shows from last Nov / early Dec and the quality on it is unreal.. The likes of Mary Coughlan, Paul Noonan (Bell X1), Lisa Hannigan, Mick Flannery, and may more.. It’s excellent.. Here it is if you would like to watch it.. ‘Behind Closed Doors’ :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kly64GjgtLE

Right so onto releases for the 2nd of April.. These include new releases by GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR, JOHN SPILLANEHELLOWEENTHE FRATELLISSTURGILL SIMPSONJAZZ IS DEAD 006DRY CLEANING, FLOCK OF DIMES, reissues by EAGLESTHE VACCINES (limited coloured)FATHER JOHN MISTY, TRAVISNADA SURFWARREN ZEVON, and MF DOOM.

A reminder also for our John Spillane competition running for anyone who pre-orders the album with us… Here is the info again

JOHN SPILLANE is set to release his first independent album in 20 years.100 Snow White Horses comes out on April 2nd. In celebration of that, we are running a competition to win: a signed Vinyl copy and signed CD of 100 Snow White Horses, a signed copy of John’s album Acoustic Series Vol.1 All The Ways you Wander, and a signed copy of his book, ‘Are We Brilliant or What’. To enter, pre-order the brand new album with us on Vinyl or CD and you will be entered into the draw! Recorded in London with Pauline Scanlon and produced by John Reynolds the album is inspired by John’s travels around Ireland. The decision to release the album independently allowed for a greater sense of creative freedom and these new songs are full of poetry, Irish mythology and wonder

Also here is the video from last week folks.. Congrats to the winner of the signed WYVERN LINGO competition!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_YYgyTF8Vo&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=MusicZone

Right so moving onto releases for Friday the 9th of April… East / West, an arm of Warner Music in the UK releases the new DECLAN O’ROURKE record ‘Arrivals’ on CD and Long Player.. I have had the great pleasure of listening to the album over the last few days and it’s a beautiful listen.. Vocally tops, great acoustic guitar work all through with the intermittent splashes of piano and strings.. Beautiful all through.. But the strongest thing about the record is the songs.. They really stand up and engage you from start to finish.. I think this album could catapult Declan to his rightful place, oh and btw it was produced (the record) by some fella called Paul Weller.. Saw a little interview of the two meant together and there seems a genuine fondness between them.. Show’s the esteem Weller holds Declan in to produce or co-produce as Weller says.. Fine listen folks, honestly.. Here is the title track ‘Arrivals’, great tune
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvX6ltlWP5Q

We have a lovely competition around pre-orders of the album with Declan and Warner.. Declan played in the good siopa a few years ago, here’s a look at it if interested.. It was 10th of December 2016, over four years ago now!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMNkRLkKZMI

Anyways, back to the competition.. Pre-order the new album on CD or Vinyl with us and enter a draw to win one of 3 separate prizes..
3rd Prize : A Signed CD copy of the new album ‘Arrivals’ by Declan
2nd Prize : A Signed Vinyl copy of the new album ‘Arrivals’ by Declan
1st Prize : A great prize for Dec fans.. A Virtual Meet & Greet with the man himself where the winner / winners household can have a chat with Declan.. I suppose ye can ask him how is Andy doing?? What kind of tiles he has in his kitchenettes or what ye’r man who produced the album is like?? Declan will also perform a song from the album for the winner on the virtual meet and greet.. A lovely prize.. Thanks a million to Declan for the prizes..

This is a limited coke bottle green vinyl..

Uni also have a SARAH JAROSZ reissue ‘Build Me Up From Bones’ on Concord.. I must admit this musician passed me by a little bit until i heard with John Smith on a song from his new album ‘The Fray’.. Just on the JOHN GRANT one… The boxset we have been allocated one copy of it.. It’s super limited, really is.. Fairest way (ohh it’s expensive also!!) is a game of fastest fingers so will pop it on the site and who (if anyone) wants it they can buy it from there… An email could easily be missed so site is the fairest way.. Right here is the Bob-Man..

Hey folks,
Few nice bits today! As ray mentioned there is a new JOHN GRANT album ‘Boy From Michigan’ after being announced (only this morning I believe), on a few formats. There is CDVinylLimited Edition Deluxe ‘O-Card’ Vinyl, and as Ray mentioned the very very limited Box Set. This one is set for release on June 15th, looking forward to it!

Brexit has been posing problems in the background all the time.. More paperwork, more costs, delays… The only one of them ye folks see really maybe is the delays.. It’s much better (the delays) but still there… The paperwork from my end is a pain in the neck to be honest.. The biggest problem ye folks may notice from time to time is with a few labels… Some labels pre-Brexit were under the umbrella of bigger distribution companies before Jan 1st and it was no issue.. But since Jan 1st these labels have lost Irish Distribution (due to ownership / Brexit bollox etc) and we are all scrambling to make it right.. Well I am anyway!! Here is a list of some of the labels that are tricky at the moment… Absolute, Active, Cadiz, Dirty Hit, Fulfill, Genepool, Nova, Right Track, Townsend and Wrasse.. For example, there is a reissue of Lloyd Cole’s ‘Antidepressant’ due on the 19th of March.. I’m working to try to get it sorted.. Going to hand ye over to the Bobman now as he runs through announcements and further down the road releases.. One whopper I know Bob, maybe more..

Hey everyone,
One or two whoppers there this week alright! We’ll start off with the announcement of the brand new album by NICK CAVE & WARREN ELLIS, ‘Carnage’, due out in May. This will be cracking i’d say, first time I believe that the duo have put out a full album of songs. Worked on a lot of scores / sound scape-y bits in the past, so i’m sure the sonics on this album will be cracking. One to look forward to!

Also announced is the return of the Modfather himself, Mr. PAUL WELLER, with his brand new record FAT POP, also due out in May. Seriously prolific is Mr Weller, nearly an album out every year for the last few years straight. I really enjoyed the last two albums. This one is on a host of formats, CD, Deluxe 3CD, Cassette, Vinyl and Indies Only Coloured Vinyl also!

Few other nice bits announced for release include a reissue of SPIRITAULIZED’s debut album ‘Lazer Guided Melodies’ (limited white vinyl available on this one), a few coloured and limited FRANK BLACK reissues, a new MAX RICHTER album ‘Voices 2’ on CD or LP, a reissue of LAURIE ANDERSON’s 1982 debut album ‘Big Science’ on red vinyl, and a few nice reissues from Music On Vinyl, including coloured vinyl release from TONY JOE WHITE and THE PIANIST ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK, and a standard vinyl reissue from PHILIP GLASS. There is also a new DROPKICK MURPHYS record coming entitled ‘Turn Up That Dial‘, coming from PIAS on CDVinyl, Indies Gold Vinyl, or a lovely Deluxe Coloured Vinyl with a bonus live 7”, flexi disc single, and a signed poster from the band!

Finally on the future release front, the excellent Cork’s very own EMPEROR OF ICE CREAM are bringing out ‘The E.P. Collection 93-94’ on CD, featuring the band’s first three E.Ps. This is a limited release with only 200 of the CDs being printed, and will be released on April 16th.

That’s it from myself this week folks,
Back to the boss-man!

Right thanks Bob!

Lastly so PIAS for the 26th of March have the new ANTLER’s album ‘Green To Gold’ on Transgressive.. On run on gold vinyl.. It’s the bands first new music in 7 years.. Peter Silberman’s had auditory problems which was very hard to diagnose I believe, common household noises used drive his left ear crazy… It turned out to be a lesion on a vocal chord, sorted now I think.. PIAS also have BONOBO’s ‘Black Sands’ 10th Anniversary Edition on grey vinyl, as well as new records by SARA WATKINS and TUNE-YARDS, both with indies only vinyl…

Sin é for this week really folks,
Thanks for listening

A Sweet Foo Fighters Competition, New Tindersticks, And A Great Loss For The Cork Music Scene

Hi everyone,
Hope all is well with ye.. Another week passed I suppose, only a few more weeks.. It’s the longest time without call & collect, it’s the most restrictive lockdown we have had to be honest but saying that January was good considering how restricting trade is, so we can’t complain.. Probably done 60% of what I would hope to have done… So we are fine.. Heard the news yesterday of the Kino and was saddened to hear it… The whole situation just turned out to be unmanageable in the end i’d say… Great loss in the short term for the music scene here in Cork, but i’m sure the lads will be back stronger than ever.. Tough for them though, upheaval, shite to deal with, heart goes out to them a bit.. I know what upheaval is like.. The lads and their staff are excellent at what they do, have a love for it.. There will be many a great night ahead in their next establishment.. Bobby would have worked with the lads in the Kino and knows all the staff well.. Really tough time out there for a lot of folks in the music industry.. Hopefully by the end of the year things will be different. and we can support the music scene like we never supported it before… Best of luck to all the Kino folk in the future…

Look, thanks for the support over the last month.. It’s a very restrictive environment to be working in and we are doing our best.. Working hard Shane, Bob and myself are… It’s weird, it feels like we are sprinting to go backwards.. It is restrictive and believe it or not a lot more time consuming.. So bare with us, we are doing our best.. Lucky to be doing anything also… We are mindful of that…
Anyways, Sin é for this week I suppose,

Fleet Foxes And Arlo Parks, New Ben Howard, And The Video Is Back!

Hi everyone,
Hope all is well out there with ye… Jan is nearly put to bed I suppose.. The ‘Brexit’ thing is still painful but learning more about it all the time, so progress is being made… It’s long winded but where a lot of my problems lay was forms not filled out right by the supplier or couriers… The couriers are customs agents now and are responsible for collectiong VAT / Customs / Fees from importer (me for example)… So they email you to pay the fee and you pay it… Problem is (one of them), they are still emailing you 5 days later looking for the payment (which you have paid!!).. They are inundated with it / sending requests for payments / getting payments and ultimately releasing the goods… Long long story short, their systems are facing big teething problems and creaking with the volumes… Frustrating thing is we have a customs number and are set up for postponed accounting for VAT, so if paperwork is correct from supplier / courier we don’t get caught in the rat-trap.. Anyway, it’s not being done right sometimes and it brings problems… Anyway, i’m glad I started that… Night night… Are ye not asleep yet???

Right, the music.. Releases for this Friday the 29th include the fabulous ARLO PARK’s album on Transgressive Records, the BICEP album landed (Was due on the 22nd).. The vinyl editions are very limited folks.. PIAS for this weekend also have the new MARTIN GORE EPGOAT GIRL’s second album, and a JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN live album also..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSvdLcS62ZM

Universal are also reissuing POLLY JEAN HARVEY’s 4th album ‘Is This Desire?’ this Friday, as well as a separate Demos LP of sessions from the recordings… Uni also have reissues from THE MAMAS & PAPASTHE FLYING BURITO BROTHERS BANDJOHN SCOFIELD & PAT METHENY, THIN LIZZY and BOB MARLEY’s savage boxset ‘Songs of Freedom’.

Warner for the 29th (this Friday) have the ST. GERMAIN ‘Tourist : Travel Versions’ reissue and STEVE HARLEY’s compilation LP…

Music on Vinyl have a box on route from Holland to us which contains the MILES DAVIS ‘In Tokyo’ vinyl, ENNIO MORRICONE’s ‘Passion’ on coloured, limited vinyl, WILLIE NELSON’s ‘Heroes’ coloured / limited vinyl, the 3 UNCLE TUPELO coloured / numbered reissues, and also the STONE ROSES remix album..

The video is back!! We, some 2 of the 3 of us, have been doing a weekly VLOG for years… I’d say 2014/2015 was it Bob?? Anyway, we spend hours scripting them every week, and take them very seriously…. We show off / showcase releases for the week… Anyway, ‘the fire of Noel Gallagher’ put paid to D’Video in August 2019 so we decided to bring ’em back… This one is long winded a bit but normally about 5 minutes.. Up on the site and youtube now
https://musiczone.ie/videos/

Right soon releases for the 5th of Feb… Oh sorry before that… The Functionality of the Siopa is Website only, there is no call and collect or click and collect… We have no problem keeping records as said in earlier newsletters… So we are hoping that call and collect will be available to us again in 3 or 4 weeks time, it is a game changer for us, but I ain’t going to crib here, there are families being torn apart, we can keep the records tucked away, no problem. Sin sin

Right so the 5th of Feb.. One I forgot to mention in recent weeks, and a biggie it is and all… The new FLEET FOXES album is out physically on Friday the 5th of Feb… I haven’t got listening to it yet, but by a lot of accounts it’s a cracker of an album… In face quite a few folks put it in their ‘Best Albums of 2020’ lists they sent to us… The Musiczone.ie Board had a (EGM) meeting though and decided cause it was not physically released in 2020, it would not be entered in 2020 but will be for 2021… The board’s decision is final.. Saw these guys in The Opera House a few years back… Was it Summer 18 or Summer 19??? The morning after the gig I was driving to work and there was the guitarist strolling down the Rochestown Road, most if not all passer-by’s oblivious… Should have pulled over and invited him to the shop!! Savage, talented band.. Here’s ‘Can I Believe You’ from the new album ‘Shore’ :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2E2DpWO3-Y

Proper also for the 5th have a SUN RA LP reissue of ‘Fireside Chat With Lucifer’

I remember buying the first FOO’s album on CD back in the day… Circa 25 years ago i’d say… 94 maybe??

PIAS for the 5th have the BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD album..

Warner for the 5th have the new STAVES album and a reissue by GEORGE BENSON

Uni for the 5th has new albums by SLOWTHAI and COMMON

Proper for the 5th also have a JOHN MAYALL 27 Disc CD Boxset called ‘The First Generation 1965-1974.. Seriously limited this one.. 5000 copies worldwide.

I was deeply saddened yesterday to hear of the passing of Cork Soprano CARA O’SULLIVAN as i’m sure thousands more were… I knew CARA a little from coming in and out of the shop down through the years for various things (sold a few cds also) and she was a great character, always bubbly, always looking for a laugh or laughing.. A really warm person.. I didn’t know Cara really well but I was (like the whole music community in Cork) knocked for six yesterday… Ahh.. A great personality.. This here always gave shivers down my spine but ever more so now… Here is Cara with the RTE Concert Orchestra doing the theme for ‘Once Upon A Time In The West’.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KO4d5xNhqw

I hope Ennio is looking for you Cara girl, wherever you are may you rest in peace.

Cara could bound into the shop, say ‘hows it going?’, i’d say ‘good girl how’s things?’. Blast out a line of a song that was playing in the shop in “her” voice (magic!!) and crack a joke about something and leave.. Whirl wind but such a warm, pleasant one.. R.I.P Cara

Releases for the 12th of Feb.. Sony have THE WHITE STRIPES’ ‘Greatest Hits’ release on CD or 2LP…

Warner for the 12th of Feb have the new JEFF TWEEDY album on dBM Records… It’s called ‘Love Is The King’… BLACK SABBATH’s ‘Vol. 4’ also out on the 12th of Feb, via BMG, as a 4CD or 5LP Boxset.. Engineered by Todd Rundgren and Glyn Johns, it features two of the group’s best-known songs, “The Shape I’m In” and “Stage Fright”, both of which showcased inspired lead vocal performances (by Richard Manuel and Rick Danko, respectively) and became staples in the group’s live shows. 5.1 surround and hi-res stereo mix of album (by Bob Clearmountain) + new bonus tracks + previously unreleased Royal Albert Hall (1970) performance on Blu-ray. John is great, a lovely songwriter and a brilliant performer. I have very fond memories of his set for one of our first RSD Parties maybe back in 2013/2014. Always brings great energy and spirit when he performs. This is one we’re looking forward to giving a good few spins in the siopa on release! It will be available on CD or LP.

That’s it from me this week folks,
Back to the bossman!

Right so, just want to mention the new MOGWAI album coming out on Rock Action on the 19th of Feb (cause I need to order this week).. ‘As The Love Continues’ is the name of the record and it’s available on a host of formats, CD2CD set which has a photo booklet and bonus CD of demo tracks, there is a standard double LP, an Indies Only Yellow Coloured Vinyl, and a boxset which contains a Red Coloured 2LP Gatefold, a 12” of the bonus demo material, the gatefold CD, a photo booklet and a download code... Arctic Monkeys and Macca, Black Friday 2020 Information, And A New Liam Gallagher Single

Hi everyone,
Hope all is well with you… Strange year in work, strange 15 months… I won’t slag off Noel Gallagher again in our hopefully soon (as in next year) to be returning videos… I can’t remember but I did have some kind of playful pop off him in the video the day before the fire… Global pandemic then… The little devil…

Look all signs point to our doors being back open Tuesday morning, December 1st… I have no idea how business will be… Big favour to ask though… For the 3 weeks, that’s all it really is, up to Christmas, if the shop is anyway busy, could we do our business and slip out again… I know it goes against everything we feel the shop is… But a favour… Come in, say hello, wave goodbye (don’t forget the bit in the middle!!).. The rules of engagement are the same.. On our table as you enter the shop… As we all know, this Covid thing is tricky to manage as everyones thoughts and expectations are different.. Hopefully after Christmas things will become half normal again and as the spring and early summer appears fully normal… Nearly there… Big chats, full house, in-stores, taking the mick, hangovers.. It’s in the stars…

Right, on to the tunes… This Friday is ‘Black Friday’ and i’ll get to that in a minute.. Other releases due into us Friday are the AMY WINEHOUSE CD CollectionPAUL WELLER’s ‘Wake Up The Nation’ Remix CD album, WELLER’s ‘On Sunset : Remixes’ 12” vinyl, NAS’ ‘Kings Disease’ vinyl, PETER GABRIEL’s ‘Growing Up : Live’ vinyl, all those from Uni…

Warner for Friday have a nice few.. BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG ‘No Fun Mondays’ covers album, PAOLO NUTINI’s ‘Sunny Side Up’, and you guessed it, they were all yellow and still are.. Fine album… THE STRANGLER’s ‘Peaches’ V.B.O is in on vinyl, SPANDAU BALLET ’40 Years’ greatest hits compilation on Double LP or 3CD, SHAKIN’ STEVENS ‘Singled Out’ best of job on vinyl or CD also and they have a MADNESS ‘Absolutely’ on vinyl also..

Lastly from WEA is SMASHING PUMPKINS... I am sold out for now.. Will have more standard vinyl and CDs next week but got cut to shreds on baby pink indies vinyl so couldn’t fulfil 2 pre-orders… Sorry lads… Ye know who ye are… Sorry.. Sometimes we lose and sometimes we win… Getting a couple of extra KERBDOG’s Friday if anyone’s interested.. On the site now or email us…

Right so, for this Friday ‘Black Friday’ the call it (i’ll keep my thoughts to myself), we have won some and we have lost some… I’ll start with the bad news… I shall be getting ZERO quantities of releases by FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE + BLUE OYSTER CULT, SHARON JONES, NANCY SINATRA… The word from the record companies was there was very few of these… Sorry…

As for releases announced for the future, it seems to be slowing down now for 2020 so a bit shorter this week..

First up, and not coming until 2021, is the limited 7” MORRISSEY & DAVID BOWIE release of ‘Cosmic Dancer : Live’. This one is very limited, to just 500, so if interested pop us a mail (shop@musiczone.ie or raymusiczone@gmail.com) or pick it up on the site. The sooner we have numbers the better chance we will have of getting enough copies. So if interested let us know. Ray, you have me trained well!!

Another really nice one coming in 2021 now up on the website is the long awaited vinyl reissue of THERAPY?’s ‘Troublegum’, coming through MOV..

Christy Moore’s ‘The Early Years’, Arctic Monkeys ‘Live At Royal Albert Hall’, and A Lovely Shout Out From Ryan Tubridy

How are ye all folks,
Hope all is ok with ye… Green shoots of hope announced on Tuesday… Fingers crossed.. You’d be sick shit of it wouldn’t you… But sher that’s the way of it.. Lockdown life is a bit weird here early in the week.. Better at weekends.. Getting odd jobs done though.. Website stocktake, returns, damaged stuff, shop stock take all to be done… One quick word on the records away for folks, please don’t get odd… But if it’s in a box for 2 months plus i’ll be sending nudging emails to pick them up… No oddness allowed please… Need to clear some decks.. That’s fair enough I think!!

Right so releases for Friday include the CHRISTY MOORE ‘Early Years’ 3LP and 2CD/DVD and 2CD.. The vinyl is beautiful and sometimes when you see a record you wish you had bought more of it… There are 1000 copies available… All hand numbered 1/1000 and I have 14 copies left to sell.. Some of the songs, ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’, ‘Love Is A Losing Game’.. Just great songs… A great album.. A great tragedy.. I think Amy was a happy go lucky enough girl until fame and the industry got hold of her… Like, she was getting Princess Di type paparazzi shite for a good 2/3 years before she died and then alcohol poisoning, all alone… Ah just very sad… Shane saw her he said in Oxegen and she was alright (she was drunk) but the voice was savage he said… Anyway pity…

I’ll hand over to Bobby who will run through some other releases for down the road in a little bit… A few beauties there I think… Before I do that, a little chat with Bobby… We are famous kid!!! Mr. Ryan Tubridy gave us (me, you, Shane & Cormac also) a lovely shout out on his radio programme this morning… He is, in huge fairness to him, trying to get folks to think about buying Irish / From Irish Businesses this Christmas and going forward also.. So that idea about the signed photographs of the 3 of us could work alright… 50 quid each for the signed ones, 20 quid for the unsigned ones you were saying… Serious though, thanks for the light shining Mr. Tubridy, thank you. About it (buying Irish), when you are going shopping now as Paul Heaton may say, ‘stop for a minute, think for a minute’… There are great independent shops in every town and every city up and down this country… Give them a go.. The biggest beast in the sky is hoovering up millions of pounds / dollars an hour… It may feel easier, but stop for a minute, think for a minute.. Google is your friend in helping to find the .ie’s … As far as we are concerned, in our little Star Wars, we are there on price, we are definitely there on customer service and a bit of craic, we just don’t have the resources to buy tonnes of every record, so albums etc can slip out of stock. But we promise to communicate, to be honest (a given) and to do our very best… I don’t think you can be fairer than that.. Folks like us are the length and breadth of the country.. Give them a try!!! We have tried to get the audio from the lovely mention today up on our YouTube channel. Our apologies here as the sound isn’t great, but we have it up now. Again, a huge huge thank you Mr. Tubridy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XNmMnF5KSQ&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=MusicZone

Ticket Competition for Fleet Foxes, Radiohead ‘OKNOTOK’ Part 2, and Tickets Nearly Gone For Coughlans Live : Happy Abandon / Small Dose!

Hey Everyone,

Hope all is well with you all.

Mini Smiling Assassin here, the Bob Man for a change as Ray’s walking down beaches somewhere! Looking at his yacht out on the horizon, grinning from cheek to cheek. Very nice i’d say.

Quiet week on the release front for in-shop today, we’ve been spoiled the last few weeks but summer is officially kicking in which can be tame.

In the shop today includes THE CURE, MAX RICHTER, GOV’T MULE, LCD SOUNDSYSTEM, JOHN HOLT, SAM AMIDON, BEACH HOUSE, THE HIGHWAYMEN, G3, and PETER PERRETT..

No video for ye this week. Next week I may try the first ever selfie video with the records. My ugly mug next to the LPs, would only scare ye away i’d say.

We’ll crack on to releases for next Friday July 7th.

PIAS

We’ll start with PIAS, who have one of the biggest releases with RADIOHEAD’s ‘ONOTOK’. But wasn’t that last week Bobby? Have you already made a mistake? No no no. This week there’s a box set version release! A week after the release of the normal LP. Couldn’t they have released it the same day? Anything for the dollars i’d say, unfortunately. Nonetheless, it is a bit of a nice set so sit back and watch the Mini Smiling Assassin work his magic!
The boxset contains the 3LP album, with a hardcover book containing over 30 different prints (most not seen before) and lyrics for the tracks (well, the tracks that actually have lyrics), as well as a notebook with 104 pages of scrawled notes from Yorke’s library of work from the time, a 48 page sketchbook of Donwood and Tchock (the boy-os responsible for Radiohead’s artwork) pre-work for the covers, and most the selling point. Drum roll please… A C90 cassette mixtape compiled by the lads taken from the ‘Ok Computer’ archives of sessions and demos..

PIAS also have a new THIS IS THE KIT album on indies only red vinyl, called ‘Moonshine Freeze’, as well as a BLIND GUARDIAN ‘Live Beyond The Spheres’ 4LP set or 3CD set. Not gonna try to guess what type of metal band this, I may get in trouble from a few of ye. Hair metal? Oh no sorry, the hair-metal flag is being flown by DECAPITATED this week with ‘Anticult’ on CD or LP through PIAS. Sorry Luke, don’t hate me.

Another nice one through PIAS for next week is the new PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING album ‘Every Valley’ on indies only clear vinyl. Really like these guys in the shop, worth checking out, definitely a bit different. This album captures a journey down the mineshafts of the south Wales Valleys. Will be interesting for sure.

WARNER

We’ll move onto Warner next for the 7th of July.. STAX Records celebrates it’s 60th Anniversary with a series of reissues this year, and first up in this is ALBERT KING’s ‘Born Under A Bad Sign’ on vinyl. 20EUR price on this, which is great. There’s also a DR. FEELGOOD 4CD Set out through Warner next week entitled ‘Lee Brilleaux : Rock N’ Roll Gentleman’, which celebrates the 20 years he was in the band.

There’s a 2CD K.D. LANG ‘Ingenue’ 25th Anniversary Edition which includes 8 unheard tracks from the MTV Unplugged Session and a few other bits, and death metalers NICKELBACK have three vinyl record reissues… Well, one reissue, two first timers on vinyl.. ‘Silver Side Up’, ‘The Long Road’, and ‘The Right Reason’. Luke, I really am sorry for that one. I swear.

Finally through Warner is OTIS REDDING ‘Great Ottis Redding Sings Soul Ballads’ and ‘The Soul Album’ reissued on vinyl.

UNIVERSAL

Universal also have a few nice bits for July 7th.. First up is the return of HAIM with their second album ‘Something To Tell You’ on CD. LP pushed back to 15/08/17, so a bit of a wait i’m afraid HAIM fans. Graham Bennett has a new live CD out through Universal, and there’s also a Trevor Jone’s Original Soundtrack to LABYRINTH. Grand little guest musician on this one.. Someone by the name of BOWIE. Wasn’t going to mention it in-case Ray tell’s me i’m up-selling to the poor Bowie heads, but I wouldn’t mind my own yacht being honest.

Another great one from the land of records! Remember our rants about the PAUL WELLER’s being too expensive (nearly 40EUR on the shelf) over the last few months. Well now ‘Stanley Road’ is getting reissued again, but this time will be cheaper! Those who didn’t buy it day 1 will be delighted, those who have already bought it, we apologize. Finally from Universal for July 7th is a CHEMICAL BROTHERs reissue of the classic ‘Dig Your Own Hole’ on silver indies only vinyl.

Trying to figure out how Ray gets to his random tangents in the newsletters is proving difficult. There’s been quite a few heated rants over the last few weeks, so I’ve decided to tone it down this week (we’ll see about next week). Many of ye will know i’ve been working here with Ray for quite some time now, coming up to six years now (AND STILL NO YACHT?!!!), but Music Zone has been a big part of my life since I was about 8 i’d say. I looked the same then, just a bit more like a beardless Hozier. Besides buying my first Shaggy CD of ‘It Wasn’t Me’ off him, growing up I was constantly in with Ray asking him to play different CDs for me while I just aimlessly flicked and listened, buying about every 1 in 10. I do blame myself just a little bit for the anger in some of the rants, must have been very annoying! And i’ll never forget the day I went down for my ‘interview’ (I use the term lightly) with Ray after he told my dad that there could be Christmas work that year if I was looking. After heading down to the shop in Carrigaline twice and missing him (always dossing isn’t he?), the third time lucky he was sitting down at the computers getting his weekly orders done. Never have I been so nervous, first job interview, what if I f**ked it up?. After standing outside the shop out of sight for about 10 minutes trying to gather the courage to go in, the conversation went a bit like this :

‘Hi Ray, dad said to pop in to you as there could be Christmas work this year?’
‘Ah yeah, do you want a job?’
‘That’d be great!’
‘Cool you start Monday’’.

If the ‘interview’ lasted 30 seconds I would be surprised. 6 years on and Ray’s the exact same, safe to say the nerves are gone! Anyway that’s my tangent over for this week, a nice little anecdote of how I got to be here for ye. We’ll fly through the rest of the releases nice and quick before ye fall asleep.

SONY

Sony for the 7th have a nice few LP reissues, including ROSANNE CASH’s ‘Kings Record Shop’, FAITHLESS ‘Outrospective’ and ‘Sunday 8PM’, KING’S OF LEON’s second album ‘Aha Shake Heartbreak’, and Paul Simon’s self titled LP.

Republic of Music for the 7th of July have the new BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE album on CD and limited LP, 3000 only in Europe as a gatefold with a 28 page artbook and vinyl only bonus track. ROM also have the CD 10th Anniversary reissue of HOT CHIP’s debut.

PROPER

PROPER for the 7th of July have TRUE ROMANCE for the first time on Vinyl.. Pricey unfortunately, but limited to 2000 worldwide and on ‘pillow feather’ white and ‘bloody red’ splatter vinyl. Very descriptive indeed.

Finally on the release front for next week, MOV have the LINCOLN Soundtrack on blue vinyl in the next of their series of soundtracks. This one limited to 750 copies.

Delighted to have the RECORD STORE DAY 2017 mini-documentary now up on our website / YouTube page. Thanks again to our main man / camera man Tim for doing a great job. Perfect to chill out with a bottle of beer and watch! It was a cracking day in the shop, and we’d really appreciate (for the bands most importantly) if you could give it a view, share and thumbs up for us!

You can check it here :
https://musiczone.ie/videos/

Final two bits for ye. First up, we’re gonna be running a competition for a pair of tickets for FLEET FOXES in Cork Opera House for Wednesday 12th of July, thanks to the kind folk who work at the Opera House. Anyone who’s in and spends over 20EUR in the shop between now and then, let us know if you want to enter and we’ll put your name into the hat! (The hat is a brown paper bag, they cost enough as you all know from previous rants, so we multi-purpose use them).

And finally. Deep breath. Another plug of our upcoming gig with COUGHLAN’s LIVE coming up on July 13th. I know we kept saying it, but honestly this time, tickets really are nearly gone. Like really nearly gone. So if you’re interested pop in and pick one up in-store for 5EUR. Only a handful left. On the night we have the mighty HAPPY ABANDON over all the way from DJT’s America. We have a private link, EXCLUSIVE FOR YE, to the band’s debut album due out in August. I’ve listened to this on repeat for the last few weeks and it just gets better and better. Once again, sit down with a bottle of beer and listen to the whole thing through, it’s a belter. And another excuse for a beer.
https://soundcloud.com/happyabandon/sets/facepaint-private-press-link-releases-825/s-eKDcf

And support slot. Well well well. It’s ME! My own band Small Dose will perform a couple of tracks before hand, it’s our first full band gig in a good few months so we’re really looking forward to it, and it will probably be our last for a small while before we go to record. A way of testing what songs to record! I swear I won’t be nervous at all. If anyone talks they’re getting kicked out.

Anyway,
That’s all from me this week,
I’ll be back again next week as the Boss Man will still be away.
Thanks everybody
Bobby

Smith’s Surprise Releases! Radiohead’s OKNOTOK, Transmission Club In-Store Tomorrow at 1PM, and Keep Stumm Keep Stumm

Hi Everyone,

Hope yer all doing well…

I’m a bit under pressure tonight… It’s a late start with this nearly 10:30 and i’m fairly disorganised with it this week also, so I do apologise in advance for my brevity and lack of abandon..

Starting out so with releases in the siopa for today a small few real beauts as well …spoilt for choice….the front stands look great if i say so myself!

We’ll start with the surprise of the week!! THE SMITHS release ‘The Queen is Dead’ on both 7’’ picture disc or 12’’.. Very limited, and we were under strict strict instruction to tell NO-ONE about this until release today.. A nice exciting release.. In-Store only for this one, pop us a note if interested, but no online sales at all.. On the same front with In-Store Releases only, we have the 45th Anniversary of BOWIE’s ‘Ziggy Stardust’ on gold vinyl (same as ‘Hunky Dory’ from a few weeks ago) also out today.. A nice buzz about these releases that makes you come into an independent record shop..

Other new releases include FLEET FOXES, ROYAL BLOOD, RIDE, JASON ISBELL, DAVID BOWIE 7’’ PICTURE DISC, BILLY MACKENZIE, THE STRYPES CD, CAN, FOREIGNER, JOHN COLTRANE, GLADIATOR OST..

Right so moving on to releases for the 23rd of June…

PIAS

I suppose the piece de resistance for Friday the 23rd of June is the remastered reissue of RADIOHEAD’s  ‘Ok Computer – OKNOTOK”… All newly remastered from the analogue tapes… So you will get, or can get, or want to get, or need to get, or hope you get, or couldnt give a shite whether you get the original 12 track album which i’m sure you know is fantastico, 8  B-Sides and the 3 unused or lost tracks from the sessions… All of this on limited indie only triple blue vinyl… The list started about a month ago… 9 names on it… I hope to receive a little over 20 of it… 33 bucks is the retail…. Drop us a line if you want one kept… Sin e with that I suppose…. The smiling assassin at his merry best.

PIAS also have a new ALGIERS album on indies only cream vinyl…

WARNER

Warner for Friday the 23rd of June have the next blast of IRON MAIDEN reissues… This time it is ‘A Matter Of Life and Death’, ‘Brave New World’, ‘Dance Of Death’ and ‘Rock In Rio’, as well as some CARCASS and EMTOMBED vinyl record reissues.

Warner also have the new JOE BONNAMASSA album… ‘Live at Carnegie Hall – An Acoustic Evening’ across 5 formats… Bluray, 2CD, 2DVD, 3LP and indies only orange vinyl 3LP… Guitar god he is in fairness to him… It looks effortless the noise he can make the instrument make…

Warner also have 3 LCD SOUNDSYSTEM vinyl record reissues … Self titled debut, ‘45.33’ and ‘This Is Happening’, as well as the PRINCE “Purple Rain” deluxe reissue on 2CD digi, 3CD/DVD, 180 gram LP and picture disc LP, and then separately are the next batch of PRINCE 12” singles including ‘When Doves Cry’, ‘I Would Die 4 U’, ‘Lets Go Crazy’ and ‘Purple Rain’.

Lastly through Warner is a new album by JEFF TWEEDY (WILCO).. Well it is an acoustic compilation album of songs Tweedy has done with Wilco and other side projects… No promises on this one… Indies only yellow vinyl, only 500 copies pressed… I might get a few.. But don’t know… Again drop a line is the second best way… The best way is to ring the shop but no-one seems to like to talk anymore…. BOOKER T ‘Green Onions’ reissue also through Warner.

SONY

Sony for the 23rd of June have some JUDAS PRIEST LP reissues including ‘Killing Machine’ ‘Stained Glass’ ‘Sin After Sin” and ‘Unleashed On The East’… Not a whole pile else from Sony for next week really then.

CARGO

Cargo for the 23rd of June have GAUDI ‘Magnetic’ on 180 gram indies only white vinyl.

UNIVERSAL

Universal don’t have a whole pile for the 23rd either…. The main one been the new IMAGINE DRAGONS ‘Evolve’ on CD, CD deluxe and gatefold LP.

MUSIC ON VINYL

MUSIC ON VINYL have a few nice ones for the 23rd… The HIGHWAYMEN (Cash, Nelson, Jennings and Kristofferson) gets a LP reissue and there’s also a first timer on vinyl, the brilliant G3 ‘Live in Toyko’ and YO YO MA plays JOHN WILLIAMS also from MOV.

We have done a survey of EDDIE VEDDER goers on the Marquee last week and findings are stark.. Those in seats had a great night.. All reports more or less had Vedder as excellent.. But not all the excellent remarks had a great night… A lot (not all) of those standing did not have a great night.. The reason being it seems that there was a load of muppets at the gig… Event goers, not really Eddie Vedder goers… Loads of noise and talking when he was performing, loads of barging and general agro… A bad vibe in a lot of places among the crowd.. We spoke to about 15 people on it.. All there for the music, no muppets here… And i’d say 13 of them had negative enough feedback about the crowd.. More interested in checking in on Facebook than listening to the tunes.. It’s a bag bearer of mine at the best and worst of times.. Keep stumm a venue where people have paid to hear the band or artist perform.. Keep stumm.. I was surprised to be honest to hear it, but hear it we did all week long..

On the local front we had the brilliant TRANSMISSION CLUB live in-store on Saturday at 1PM. We really really are loving the older EP from the lads in the shop.. Great tunes, great recordings all done themselves in a bedroom in Cork City.. Old school feel all round.. They are promoting a new single right now which you can check out here

It was a class gig!

On to great nights out.. And great night it will be..

We are launching our first ever Music Zone Towers late night gig with our great friends at Coughlan’s Live, in Coughlan’s Bar on Douglas St, Cork on Thursday July 13th.. We’re delighted to have a band from the U.S of A over as the main act.. Happy Abandon are the band in question.. The lads are cracking.. We’ve heard the full album which is due out in August, and we can see why there’s hype building hugely around them in the States.. Produced by the man who produced the last Ryan Adams LP.. Fleet Foxes meets Jeff Buckley people are saying.. We have an exclusive four track sampler available here :

https://soundcloud.com/ray-obrien-7/sets/happy-abandon-4-track-sampler/s-mqk10

Also, big news.. Hozier is supporting on the night… Well, our own Hozier.. A Hozier look-a-like… Bobby’s own Small Dose will be doing a short set beforehand.. He swears he’s not nervous..

So if you’re interested it’s a fiver a ticket, and they’re currently on sale in the shop.. Flying like hot cakes though… We really hope this is a success, for the band, for Coughlans, and so hopefully we can do it again down the line…

So sin e for this week folks,

Thanks as always,

Ray

VINYL RECORDS CORK

Fleet Foxes / Royal Blood / The Strypes Return, The Bolloxology of The ‘World We Created’, and Transmission Club In-Store June 17th at 1PM

Hi Everyone,

Hope you’re all doing ok… Navigating your way as smoothly as possible.

Stuff.. Nice stuff… But stuff all the same in the siopa today includes new vinyl records by LONDON GRAMMAR, SUFJAN STEVENS / BRYCE DESSNER, CHUCK BERRY, ALBERT HAMMOND, LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM / CHRISTINE MCVIE, MAGPIE SALUTE and SUFFOCATION, as well as reissues by SOULWAX, FATS DOMINO, DAVID BYRNE and STING.

Last one in for today is the new ARCADE FIRE 12“… 2000 copies in the world… We have some.. Orange vinyl… Produced by Daft Punk…. I was sworn to secrecy on this one but they are here now so pop us a line if you want one..

Video also is up for this week, we’re on a roll.. We’re on a roll..

WARNER

Moving on so I suppose to releases for the 16th of June, and what a dinger of a day it is for releases to be fair to it… Summer is coming though…. Reverse Game Of Throne reference…. A lot of good new stuff out for the 16th starting with the return of FLEET FOXES, their third album ‘Crack Up’…. Been a while, this one should be a real cracker…. We have a nice little cardboard image with the first 15 pre-orders… Have 4 or 5 already so Bueller… Bueller…

Warner also have the new and second ROYAL BLOOD album ‘How Did We Get So Dark’ on indies only white vinyl, standard vinyl and CD… Shane was chilling in Slane when he met the boys from Royal Blood and he asked them to give a shout out to the record shop he works in… Here it is…

https://www.facebook.com/musiczonedv/videos/1085942848217229/

Eeerrr no that wasn’t what happened…. The lads from Warners sorted it for us… And it’s the job.

I was chatting to a lad a few weeks ago when he was in the shop who has a record shop in Sheffield, and we were talking about, amongst other things, how bands from a region can help the auld record shops the region…. I had mentioned to him about having the ARCTIC MONKEYS in for an in-store and he kind of laughed… He then made a really good point I thought… Even if bands or members of bands came into the shop after hours for a few photos…… No hassles with dealing with Joe Public or having to sign a load of things…. 10 minutes for the band… In and out … Few pictures taken rooting through the racks in the shop to be used by the shop on social media… The band to sign an album or even the wall of the shop… Few little things like that, without much pain for the band… Would really help a little record shops ‘profile’… It’s all bolloxology… The ‘profile’ thing, but sure as RW says ‘is this the world we created?’…. I know if I was famous i’d be allergic to Joe Public… Will ya sign this… Can I have a photo… Whereas this way is painless enough for them and would greatly benefit the shop… Anyway I thought it makes sense anyway… That’s not to say when JOHN BLEK AND THE RATS blow the world apart with their third record that they’ll get away with an after hours photo shoot… No way Jose… Their arms will be falling off from signing things in the shop…!!

Warner have a blast of BOWIE releases for the 16th (I dunno they must be taking the rest of the summer off or something… Get up early and have the dinner and you’ve the day to yourself type of thing) including the next one of the 40th anniversary picture discs… This time ‘Be My Wife’ from some album called ‘Low’…  Is it?…(thought that was a Brian Eno record..?)…. BOWIE ‘Cracked Actor’ gets its 2CD release as well as the limited (and in fairness they are… ‘Hunky Dory’ gold vinyl sold out in the UK record shops), and available only through bricks and mortars stores reissue of ‘ZIGGY’ on gold vinyl also…. Not to be sold on any online platform… Get your arse into a shop and buy it… Old school…

Warner also has some JOHN COLTRANE reissues on Mono LPs, a Three Tenors Concert from 1994 on 2 LP, ZZ TOP first five records in a vinyl boxset, DELANEY AND BONNIE (and a good girl she is) on tour with CLAPTON as a 4 CD set, and lastly but certainly not leastly is the new record by STEVE EARLE and THE DUKES ‘So You Want To Be An Outlaw” on CD, CD/DVD or 2LP… I really liked his last couple of albums…. So right thats Warner done.. No more waffle from me… On with it.

THE ORCHARD who are a merge of RED ESSENTIAL, and the aforementioned, have the new JASON ISBELL And The 400 Unit record called ‘The Nashville Sound’ on CD and LP…. If this guy hasn’t hit your radar yet… He is well worth checking out… This new one sounds great as usual… Here’s a taste

The Orchard also has a new album by ALISON MOYET, new GOLDIE album and a new ICED EARTH album on CD, deluxe CD, a boxset and 2LP.

PROPER

PROPER have a new NATHAN CARTER album for the 16th of June.

SONY

Sony just have an ELO compilation really for the 16th.

UNIVERSAL

UNIVERSAL for the 16th have the return of the boys from Cavan… A lot of ye would know they would be shop favourites… So really looking forward to the new record… Third record now… ‘Spitting Image’… CD is the 16th and the LP is the 23rd…. Sorry… THE STRYPES of course… Cracking young hardworking band…. Would love to have them in the shop sometime… Another job for ye lads, would ye go into Music Zone in Cork and play a few tunes…. Ah FFS…. Ahat’s a terror…. Said in my best Cavan, (the mother in law is from up them parts…. Sound folk up there….. Don’t mention Toibin though!).. Jesting and joking aside we really hope the record does really well for them… Looking forward to hearing it here.

Universal also have the new album by LORDE… Her second…. Huge in her native New Zealand and the Bowie man was a big fan also… Talented girl

In 2013, a 16-year-old LORDE quietly, yet confidently asserted herself as the voice of a generation with her full-length debut, Pure Heroine. The album would go triple-platinum, selling over 4 Million worldwide, win two GRAMMY Awards, a BRIT and spawned the seven-times platinum record-breaking international juggernaut single, “Royals,” and quadruple-platinum follow up “Team.” Her last trip to the UK was when she was personally asked by David Bowie’s family to perform her spellbinding tribute to the late artist at 2016 BRIT AWARDS. An LP format to follow later in year

BETH DITTO the vocalist from THE GOSSIP has a solo album out on the 16th as well as BIG STAR ‘Best Of’ compilation on CD and 2LP, SIMPLE MINDS ‘ACOUSTIC’ in concert CD/DVD, TAJ MAHAL and KEB MO have an LP and CD called TAJMO.. There’s reissue on vinyl of SUZANNE VEGA’s ‘Solitude Standing’ also through Uni, and a reissue of BILLY MACKENZIE’s “ Beyond the sun” on LP, and lastly from is the vinyl release of the new CHRIS STAPLETON album.

PIAS

PIAS for the 16th have new albums by RIDE ‘Weather Diaries’ on CD and indies only coloured vinyl, KEVIN MORBY ‘City Music’, SONGHOY BLUES ‘Resistance’ on CD or indies only yellow colored vinyl and a nice CAN compilation ‘The Singles’ on 3LP or CD.

Right so on the local scene we are delighted to announce that we have a really talented up and coming Cork band coming in to do an instore with us on Saturday the 17th of June at 1PM….. The band are called TRANSMISSION CLUB and its alternative rock, indie folk rock with a hint of dream in it I suppose…. Check out the the latest tunes here

https://soundcloud.com/transmissionclubmusic/sets/taking-off-blackhole-single/s-ibPZX

These tracks will be available as an EP on the day of the launch in the shop…. We also have an older EP in the shop.. A cracking three track… Really good also…. Made as it says on the cover ‘In A Bedroom in Cork City”…. Really like the sound of these lads… Try get in if you can!!

Sin e for this week folks,

Thanks for listening,

Ray
